Wes Anderson is the talented writer / producer / director of Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox and the best film of 2012 so far, Moonrise Kingdom.
Wes Anderson is approaching an exciting list of names to appear in his currently untitled ensemble movie, with phone calls being made to Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Angela Lansbury as well as previous collaborators Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody and Willem Dafoe.
The director hasn't been shy in talking up the new movie, revealing through the press rounds for Moonrise Kingdom a few things including : the script is done, it will reunite him with Owen Wilson (which seems to be a mere formality at this point), and one character will be a personal medium.
"It's a film I want to make in Europe, a Euro movie". When asked if living in France (the filmmaker splits his time between New York and Paris) has had any effect on his filmmaking, Anderson said, "I think I got more of the French sensibility in my work from watching French movies, probably, than living in France. The script I’m working on now is a European story and it kind of draws from my own experience here, in the details that are finding their way into it."
"I’ve already written the script, but the story I made up with a friend. He’s not involved with the movie business, he’s just an old friend who’s very bright, funny and talented, but we also have a mutual friend who’s the inspiration for one of the main characters. So we’ve partly used our shared experiences to kind of build that character."
This fall, Peter Bogdanovich's Squirrel to the Nuts will go in front of cameras with Wes Anderson and fellow writer Noam Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) producing. Squirrel to the Nuts is starring Owen Wilson (co-writer of Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums, star of Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Darjeeling Limited) as a married Broadway director who falls in love with an actress who used to be a prostitute. Brie Larson (United States of Tara) and Olivia Wilde (House) co-star in this comedy.
