A Shield reunion is coming to the eagerly anticipated Last Resort.
Jay Karnes has been cast in a recurring role on the action drama series about the crew of a nuclear submarine who defy a dubious command to start World War III. He’ll play the Secretary of Defense on the show.
Last Resort is co-created by Shawn Ryan, the creator of The Shield which co-starred Karnes as Dutch Wagenbach. Since, Karnes has played arcs on Sons of Anarchy (created by Kurt Sutter, writer on The Shield), V and Burn Notice.
Here's what Ryan said about the inception of Last Resort at the TCA press tour last week : “When I pitched this to ABC, I described it as the show that I couldn’t make 5 years ago. The ongoing serialization of The Shield, combined with the production value of Chicago Code, combined with this buddy thing that we had done in Terriers : all this stuff got me to this place where I felt I could do something this ambitious, big‑budget, very huge, monstrous‑scope show".

Bear in mind that David Rees Snell, aka Ronnie Gardocki on The Shield, also has a recurring role on Last Resort. Hopefully "Dutch" and "Ronnie" will have a few scenes together !
