Grey's Anatomy - Season 9 - Shonda Rhimes interview

28 Jul 2012

The ABC medical drama, which has been set at Seattle Grace since the show's first season, will split its time between two locations in Season 9.

The harrowing and tragic season finale saw the Stranded Six — Meredith, Derek, Cristina, Mark, Arizona and Lexie — crash-land in the mountains, with Lexie subsequently succumbing to her injuries. (Apparently, she might not be the only one to die since Eric Dane is also exiting the series sometime next season). Even though there seemed to be no hope on the horizon in the closing moments of the finale, the doctors will eventually get rescued since the Season 9 premiere will jump ahead two to three months, executive producer Shonda Rhimes tells TVGuide.com. But that doesn't mean we won't see what transpired in those mountains. Get the scoop from Rhimes below, including Derek's new troubles, Bailey's wedding (!) and Calzona's fate:

  1. Okay, this sounds pretty awesome.

And aww, poor Alex. He shouldn't blame himself, but at least he's getting a storyline. That's all I ask since he's my favorite character.

And this going back in time in episode two sounds pretty interesting, tbh. And explains why Eric Dane is in multiple episodes before he leaves.

  2. Except for the bit about Alex, this didn't do anything to reassure me that this upcoming season will be able to overcome the the recent loss of personnel.

  3. Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm feeling the whole "set in two places" idea....I'd prefer to just stay at Seattle Grace tbh.

  4. Aww for Alex, shit keeps getting dumped on him, when is he ever going to find himself in a good spot,he for one deserves something good in his life.

I am not looking forward to the whole Cristina/Owen deal especially since its going to take the whole season, ugh i've had it with those two!

  5. Well no offence but they hardly last 3 of the best characters?

  6. They weren't the worst either though. Besides Teddy. I would've wanted Jackson or April to leave before Mark and Lexie. Or even Richard (his story can pretty much end anytime, they keep him on for no reason IMO)

  7. I'm not offended but I certainly don't agree with you either. (Except for Teddy.)
