Grey's Anatomy - Season 9 - Sarah Drew on the Aftermath of the Crash

Thanks to laura3341 for the heads up.

Grey's Anatomy season 8 ended with some of the doctors still in danger after the plane crash. Lexie died, and the others are injured and hungry, still out in the woods. It was only at the end of the episode that Owen got around to listening to his messages and found out they never made it to Boise.

Grey's Season 9 Spoilers

The rest of the hospital has yet to find out about the crash. In fact, Richard, Alex, Jackson, and April were waiting for Meredith and Cristina to show up for the dinner when the episode ended. Everyone's dealing with their own drama of course (it wouldn't be Grey's otherwise), but this is big enough that all of that could be pushed aside. That seems to be what Sarah Drew imagines, at least for April, as she told Entertainment Weekly, "I do think she is a big enough person to put her own personal trauma aside and rally for the larger group." When season 8 ended, April had failed her boards and had no job prospects in her future. She was freaking out about that, which was understandable. However, that means nothing with doctors dying and lives hanging in the balance.

There's also the question of April and Jackson in Grey's Anatomy season 9, and Drew said, "I hope that [April and Jackson] will just remain very dear friends, regardless of where their relationship takes them. But I don't know — it could be a very interesting love story. But it could also be a complicated one." Whatever happens with their relationship, they are going to need each other to get through this. Jackson will be dealing with Lexie's death, and assuming Mark lives, Mark may need to lean on Jackson a bit as the season goes on (assuming Jackson stays in Seattle). Any romantic relationship is going to have to take a backseat for a while as everyone deals with the aftermath of the crash.

  2. Honestly, the relationship between April and Avery is the least of my worries for the upcoming season... I also don't care very much. With respect to their characters, I DO request more time between Avery and Richard on screen (should both of them live), as well as Avery and Mark (again, should both of them live). Then again, I'm still reeling over Lexie, and kind of would have preferred Mark to die alongside her.

  3. I didn't care that much for Avery myself, but i did love the relationship he has/had (?) with Mark! It really was interesting to watch it evolve from teacher to big brother,i will miss it if,well you know...

  4. Great spoiler, just hoping they show us the rescue of our beloved doctors. I don't want a time jump.

I want Owen to address the staff at SGMW and let them know that the plane of doctors they sent to Boise did not arrive, and that a rescue helicopter has been sent out to search for the wreckage.

I want the rescue, I want the heartbreak of seeing Lexie's body being put on the rescue plane/helicopter being sent home to Seattle. With season 9 lets see more of Lexie's peers (Steve Mastow, Gloria Guzzman and Claire fill in the space Lexie left as the 4th year resident.

I want the drama. September is too far away and I am wishing for a 2 hour premiere, to get these doctors home to Seattle.

  5. Your not asking for much are you! :) In an article i read Shondra said there will not be a time jump,it will pick up right where it left off, unless of course she changes her mind...

  6. For the life of me, I could not remember who Claire was. I actually had to go look it up. In any case, she wouldn't be there because she was fired after the merger. The only residents from Lexie's year not fired were Gabriella Guzman, Ryan Spalding, Steve Mostow and Lexie Grey. Megan Mostow was re-hired by Derek Shepherd, when he was Chief. We did see Steve in Season 8. He was there, briefly during the Valentine's Day episode where he was telling the attendings his plans for Valentine's Day in the OR.
Still, I don't think any of them would be added to the cast because Shonda mentioned somewhere in an article she wasn't adding any new cast members.
Like you, I would like a two-hour season premiere. The first hour to show the rescue and the second hour to deal with the aftermath of the rescue and possibly Lexie's funeral.

  7. Kind of off topic but I tried to stay away from spoilers about the finale before I saw it but came across Arizona's name as the person who was going to die at least twice.... was that a rumor or just who people wanted to die? lol

I was convinced Lexi was going to puil an "I'm alive!!!" and arizona was gonna just randomly drop dead till about a half hour into the shitfest of an episode

  8. With the news that someone else may die, I can't bring myself to care about information like this right now. I'm too worried about the other possible death(s).

  9. I think a lot of that had to do with a) Jessica's pregnancy/newborn (i.e. she might want time away from acting) and b) that Callie/Arizona were in the "happy place" that Shonda hates for characters to be in and will either kill one of them off or break them up (and as Callie wasn't on the plane).

  10. I guess I'm in the minority when I say April and Jackson have been a breath of fresh air and although I don't want them to get together so soon, I still want them to continue their storyline. I feel like Japril is a new beginning for the love stories on Grey's because I feel like Shonda has been making some huge missteps in that department:

~ Cristina/Owen is an absolute mess to the point where I'd rather see them go their separate ways than make up because it would just seem so ridiculous for one of them to compromise on something so uncompromisable... I mean, Shonda pretty much put them through the garbage disposal purposely.

~ The whole Alex/Morgan story... IDK. It didn't seem authentic to me.

~ Callie and Arizona - Shonda is so afraid of the Calzona shippers that Calzona has become BORING. I mean, we don't know what's coming up in future seasons (if Arizona doesn't die), but Shonda needs to step up her game in the Calzona department.

~ Mark/Lexie... I don;t even want to get into it, but I will. She breaks them up... and then has Lexie pining for two seasons straight like a school girl. It just seemed ridiculous because they both clearly still had feelings for each other. And then she randomly gets the courage to say what she feels... and promptly gets killed off. Come on.

So, honestly, like I said, the development that Japril have been getting is nice and I hope it continues.
