“I am extremely grateful to everyone at Grey’s, ABC and Shondaland for the experience and memories I have had over the course of this run,” Dane tells TVLine exclusively. “It has been wonderful to work alongside and learn from a creative force such as Shonda Rhimes.”
Mark was eventually sprung from the Addison-Derek-Meredith kerfuffle and began an on-again-off-again romance with Lexie — a relationship that ended tragically in last May’s Season 8 finale. Unlike Lexie, Mark will (presumably) survive the crash. According to a Grey’s insider, Dane — whose alter ego suffered a cardiac arrest of sorts in the finale, but was saved by a quick-thinking Cristina — will be back for several episodes in order to ensure he gets a proper farewell.

Interesting. I'm somewhat surprised by this but not entirely.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this statement comes out because they had a table read and he finds out his character dies.
I KNEW IT!!!!! Best of luck to Eric Dane.
ReplyDeleteI kinda had a feeling, tbh, but I'm still sad.
ReplyDeleteWow, they are really shedding cast members. Funny that all the ones who were supposed to bolt are staying and it seems like half the rest of the cast bolted. Wonder if this means that Mark is toast? Don't see how they're gonna write him out without killing him since he has a kid with Callie. Shame, they're getting rid of characters I sorta liked and keeping all the ones that bore me.
ReplyDeleteYou might be right. ;o
ReplyDeleteI know they had the 9.02 table read today... so... maybe he's leaving for the second episode ...
If only Shonda finally decides to bring back Izzie. *am dreaming*
Well, Grey's kind of ended with Lexie dying for me. I'm actually okay about this. As long as he doesn't run off with Julia, that is. haha
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so sad. I love Mark and will hate to see him gone.
ReplyDeleteI loved Mark until last season now if I still liked him I would probably be sad about this but i'm not. Also, Eric is a great actor and can do alot better than this show.
ReplyDeleteHoly hell. Slowly but surely, the actors portraying the characters I actually give a damn about on this show are all jumping ship.
ReplyDeleteOh no :( Anyone leaving sucks.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure if I was going back to Grey's and this isn't exactly encouraging news. As others have said, we're losing interesting characters and keeping boring ones.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. For me, Grey's losing Mark is a double-loss because Mark was the one thing that made Jackson interesting.
ReplyDeleteTeddy, Mark and Lexie leaving is fine by me, I really don't see the massive deal being made.Teddy was probably the most boring main character there's ever been. Lexie and Mark had really been in the background for the past couple of series, so I'm not that bothered... I never really LOVED either of them that much anyway.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Jackson will be leaving as well since his mentor won't be around for him to do a plastics fellow with?
ReplyDeleteThe same thing is also happening on The Office, too. (Well, Jim and Pam are really the only characters I love now, tbh. And I still kinda care about Dwight/Angela)
ReplyDeleteI only regret that the Mark/Jackson partnership will be broken...
ReplyDeleteThat's unfortunate. The cast could use some trimming but I rather liked Mark quite a lot. :(
ReplyDeletehes leaving great then im done im not wachting greys anatomy again
ReplyDeletei would have o disagree Jackson is the most boring character in my opinion
ReplyDeleteim indifferent to the news, while i like Mark i felt they had no wehere else to take his character, specially after Lexie died. Its only but so much three's company they can do with Mark, Callie and Arizona.
ReplyDeleteWhile him mentoring Avery was refrshing at the beginning it to was getting stale for me
I could care less about him and Julia to be honest.
So im not heartbroken that he is leaving.
END THE GOD DAMN SHOW!!!! Im watching the first season and then I watch the seventh - im like what the hell happened to this show?
ReplyDeleteHow do you lose so many great characters?
ReplyDeleteNO!!!
ReplyDeleteFUCK.
ReplyDeletequestion is he going to get killed off or just go away?
ReplyDeleteMCsteamy :,(
ReplyDeleteI'm actually okay with this. After Lexie I don't see a decent story for Mark. He'll probably be one of the deaths and appear in flashbacks only for us to realize he's already dead. Hopefully his character dies and joins Lexie and not just leaves like Teddy.
ReplyDeleteWell, if he died it would've been a nice ending for Lexie and Mark, but it seems he's going to live, as the news says "(he) will be back for several episodes in order to ensure he gets a proper farewell". So maybe he won't resist being in the hospital while the love of his life isn't anymore and he'll end up leaving, which is nice to me too because, let's face it, Mark never had a story by his own: At first he was a supporting character for Addie and Derek, then just for Derek, then for Lexie, then Callie and Arizona, and finally Avery-Lexie; so he leaving is a good thing for me. Just hope Eric Dane gets nice job offers after all of this.
ReplyDeletemixed feelings about that. i really liked dr.mcsteamy!
ReplyDeleteI was really hoping that he died in the first ep back. I love Mark! but Grey's Anatomy IS the kind of show where you can have an afterlife love-reunion where it isn't just silly. What a missed opportunity for a genuinely happily ever after(life).
ReplyDeleteHow the heck did I just see this? Well, I can't say I'm sorry to see him go. I absolutely love Mark, but it was going to be really hard to see him go on after Lexie.
