Gossip Girl has tapped 7th Heaven vet Barry Watson to join the sixth and final season as a romantic interest for Blake Lively‘s unlucky-in-love alter ego, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Little is known about his character, save for his name (Steven Spence) and occupation (he’s a young entrepreneur).

    Ummm, Barry Watson, really? So, I now officially vote for the last season of GG to be released direct to DVD/Blu Ray. What a waste. I hope these writers don't get a job on any of my favorite shows.

    Well, Serena is too screwed up for Nate, and Dan and Serena are too screwed up for each other right now, and I don't see Carter coming back, so why not? I mean sure, Barry Watson's kinda older, and yes, there's only a few episodes left so starting a new love story at this point is strange, and okay, Serena has a thousand other problems she could be working out, like her recent backslide or her friendship with Blair ... I think I figured out why not. I don't think this is the worst decision the writers have made for the upcoming season, but I can't say it's a particularly good idea. Just because they've messed up the romantic relationships Serena already has doesn't mean they need to toss a new one at us just because the show's wrapping up. In fact, at this point, I wish that they'd ditch the romantic relationships altogether, maybe fix up the friendships between the core five instead? But of all five, if any of them don't need another completely random love interest in the last batch of episodes, it's Serena, queen of the temporary guest star boyfriends. So while I like Barry Watson well enough, that's another bad call, GG writers.
