Comic-Con - Warner Bros. to go Above and Beyond

Jul 3, 2012

Warner Bros. Television is taking its Comic-Con presentations beyond the halls of the San Diego Convention Center.
Studio will take up 60,000 square feet of space in the field behind the facility, next to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel, to offer free entertainment, including film screenings and concerts to the more than 130,000 attendees expected July 12-15.

During the day, the space will be used for tapings of entertainment newsmag "Extra," while at night WB has programmed live performances.

Space also will host all six Batmobiles from the films and TV show -- from Adam West's 1955 Lincoln Futura to the Tumbler from Christopher Nolan's trilogy.

Warner Bros. also will promote "Guardians of Middle-earth" and "Lego The Lord of the Rings," the two planned videogames for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," out Dec. 14. And WBTV will distribute the studio's Comic-Con special edition of TV Guide Magazine -- with four sets of collectible flip covers featuring the casts of "The Big Bang Theory," "Fringe," "Supernatural" and "The Vampire Diaries" -- at the "Extra" stage.

Studio said it wanted to offer free entertainment to attendees who can't score invites to industry parties during the week.

WBTV's chief marketing officer Lisa Gregorian called the event an "additive experience of being at the Con."

"Everyone at Warner Bros. Television approaches Comic-Con as a fan-first experience," she said. "It's in our DNA, with everything we do -- from panels to signings to our bags, posters and more -- carefully curated with our fans in mind."

In addition to the outdoor activities, Warner Bros. also will bring "The Big Bang Theory," "Vampire Diaries" and "Fringe," along with newbies "Arrow," "The Following," "Cult," "Revolution" and "666 Park Avenue" to the Con. And due to TV's growth at the geekfest, "Big Bang" will be presented for the first time in Hall H, the convention center's largest presentation room that seats 6,000.

  3. How nice when it lists three of the on the flip covers as being brought to the con but leaves Supernatural as far as the article goes. Hey are also in Hall H for the second year in a row. Ah well.

  4. Ya know that is kinda odd/ annoying!

I completely forgot SPN was A WB series, but I shouldn't have seeing as I last weekend posted links to the WB Comic-Con page and it had an SPN pic there!

Even if I don't watch the show anymore (at least for now), I still find it odd they would dismiss and/or forget one of their series that has the arguably the most passionate fan base!

  7. I was so irked by it that I went to the Variety article and, lo and behold, the email of the author was there. I wrote her and got a response this morning.

This is what I wrote: The article was fabulous, but I have a major question that bothers me. You mentioned that Warner was bringing three of the shows that are on the flip covers: Fringe, Vampire Diaries, and Big Bang Theory to the Con. You also mentioned Big Bang Theory going to Hall H as a first. Well, they are bringing Supernatural also and this will be their second year in Hall H. Why do all of the bigger magazines like Variety leave the show out? Supernatural and it's cast are fabulous. More money is earned for charity by Supernatural fans than any show on television. The cast is highly active in that. They are some of the nicest people around. They strive to show up for every Con they sign a contract on. They call us family. We think of ourselves as such. Going on 8 years and the set is still a fun place to go and visit. The crew adores working there. The actors are some of the most talented men on television. I think it is time they were recognized. It's past due, actually. Again thank you for the great article.

This is her response: Hi Trisha,You are absolutely correct. it was mentioned in an earlier version of the story, but might have been accidentally cut during the editing process. I promise to have it fixed.
    Thanks for the heads up.
    Erin

To be honest, I don't think anything is accidentally cut, but if it's corrected, I'll be satisfied.

I'm sorry you no longer watch the show.

  8. Good job e-mailing her and I agree on the reply. Her editor (or she herself) accidentally on purpose cut that for some reason....

It seems like if I watch SPN week to week I cannot get into it as much as if I watch it in marathons. I watched the first 5 seasons that way and then just started losing interest I guess. I may still check it out some Summer and watch a couple seasons in a few months.

  9. The Fringe panel will be great.

  10. I marathon every summer, adding the last season I bought. I actually liked a good portion of season 7. I know people disagree, but taste differs. There were a couple I didn't care for, but that's true every season.
