Thanks to Richard for the heads up.

  1. I was intrigued by the title of the show, I'm discovering it now and, well, it just blew my mind. I wish Raising Hope could reach the same level of subtlety as Baby Daddy. Raising Hope is clearly a rip off of this show created 2 years later, btw.

From the looks of it, the Daddy will go out on a date with the doctor, but he will have to bring his daughter with him, and while the doctor will want to do what normal people do on a date, the baby will have problems and the Daddy will take advantage of the fact that she's a doctor to solve them (even though they're not in the doctor's office !). Ensues comedy gold. And then after this episode she will never appear again on the show.

Love it when it's predictible, that way you're not surprised !

  2. Believe me, I thought this show was going to be extremely stupid when I first heard about it, but then I kept hearing good things from people. And you know what? I watched and ended up loving it. It's hilarious and heartwearming at the same time.

Don't judge it by a thirty-seven second clip.

  3. Sorry about that, it's just that in those 37 seconds there was a lot of what I usually hate in multi-camera sitcoms, and the pitch of the show reminded me of Raising Hope, so I went on this completely unjustified cynical description of what I think will happen. ABC Family is usually not my cup of tea, as far as I'm concerned the only good show they've ever put on the air was The Middleman.

And with a premise quite similar (a single dad learning he has a daughter), Raising Hope is funny, original, wacky and has great actors (confirmed names like Cloris Leachman and Garett Dillahunt and excellent newcomers (all the others)). Based on this clip, I'm sure Baby Daddy is heartwarming but I doubt it can have any of Raising Hope's qualities (the multi-camera format alone doesn't allow much originality or wackiness, that's an handicap from the get-go).

I don't think it's my kind of show, klutzy, but as a token of good faith I will watch this episode. If the story plays out like what I wrote, I won't watch another episode. If it doesn't and if it's actually good, I'll catch up on the first two episodes and watch a few more episodes this summer.

Btw, I was looking for information on this show just now and it's weird to see a 21-year old (the lead actor) named Jean-Luc… I don't know any Jean-Luc that wasn't born before 1970, it's weird to see a guy just a bit older than me named like that, I didn't think "Jean-Luc" was one of those first names that crosses generations… until now I guess :D.

  4. The actor who plays Ben is pretty great, especially in a moment that happened last episode.

I hope it doesn't play out as you expect, and you'll give it another chance.

  5. While it's good that you are willing to give it a chance, I have to say there is a lot of bitterness in this post. Sounds like you are a big Raising Hope fan and can't stand the idea of any show with a similar premise...

If you don't like it, don't watch and please don't ruin it for the people who do.
