So, mr Moore decided to stop posting, and started charging for his bold ideas. It was bound to happen sooner or later, I guess...
ReplyDeleteHe's been writing books for years.
ReplyDeleteAndy S,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. I do post essays and blogs. I've served as Featured Writer at both Westeros.org and WinterIsComing.com for my GoT essays, and of course you can find about 30 of my 3000- to 7000-word essays at Andy's other site, DarkUFO. The SL-Lost website is no longer functional but you can still find most of the three dozen or so essays I penned for SL-Lost as Featured Writer in 2010. I've written on Mad Men and Awake here at Spoiler TV, and I will probably be contributing essays on Breaking Bad sometime in the near future. All in all, if you root around on the Internet you will find more than 110 essays, each one 3000- to 11,000-words in length, that I wrote for free, for your enjoyment.
My books do earn some money. But that's a good thing, not a bad thing at all. I've earned a few thousand dollars. But then, I've spent several thousand hours in research and writing. If you add it all up, I've averaged $2.65 per hour of research and writing. It's enough that I can take my wife out for dinner once a month or so, and that's a pretty good investment, for you and me both. For me, it means my wife is gracious enough to forgive me for all the time I'm spending with you (preparing for our conversation through research, then writing the essays) rather than with her. It's a sacrifice for her and for me, but my wife and I have decided that the end result--ideas that you and I can discuss--is worth the sacrifice.
I keep my prices low. This means I earn very little from each sale. But it also means that more people can afford to read my books. If you're on a tight budget and you have a choice between Game of Thrones Stories published by MegaBucks Books and written by Audrey BigName selling for $9.99 in ebook version and $24.95 in paperback, you might decide instead to purchase Game of Thrones Season Two Essays published by Inukshuk Press and written by Pearson Moore since it's selling for $4.99 in ebook and $12.95 in paperback. MegaBucks Books earns 3 or 4 times what I earn for each sale, and I could do the same if I were interested in maximising profit. But that's not my goal. My hope is to reach as many readers as possible, and so I set my prices very low. The objective is to share ideas, and I'm not going to do that by setting my prices to meet those set by MegaBucks Inc.
Yes, you have to pay $4.99 to read some rather startling ideas about a television series you enjoy. If that's really too much, email me and I'll send you some essays. It's not about money, Andy, it's about sharing ideas. Thanks again for your comments!
