Alphas - Ryan Cartwright (Gary Bell) Interview Snippets

Earlier today I was fortunate enough to take part in a conference call opportunity with Ryan Cartwright. Ryan is known for his role in Bones as Vincent Nigel Murray and for his current role in Alphas as Gary Bell. Ryan was extremely nice and a real joy to talk with. He offered quite a bit of insight as to what we can expect to see from him in season 2 of Alphas. I was able to ask 2 questions for this interview and so I will go over those first.
I asked him if we we will get to see Gary in a leadership role this season and how will his autism play in to that. He thinks that Gary becomes a leader within himself and will be more independent. Ryan also said that Gary has no problem doing things behind the backs of the other alphas as well. Ryan said that Gary will break from the group a lot more this season and will be his own boss. Furthermore, Ryan believes that Gary will be able to pursue his own dreams and break from the rest of the group.
One interviewer asked how Gary will react to the new Alpha on the team. According to Ryan, Gary is at first intrigued by her, but also intimidated. Ryan continued by saying that Gary is not used to being the one who doesn’t get all of the attention. He also said that if he can get past that, that maybe he will end up liking her. Further, he also mentioned that in one episode where Gary is closed off from all electronics that he discovers that there are more streams and wavelengths that he can access with his ability. I expect this to be interesting to see in the next season. One thing that came up a lot was that he does such an excellent job in accurately portraying someone with autism. I believe he stated that he was chosen for the role over someone who was actually autistic. Ryan said that he is happy with some of the developments in season 2 with Gary’s role. This goes along with him being a leader, in that he can stand up for himself. He also emphasized that we are going to see Gary swearing a little more this season.
Overall, the interview went quite well and because of it I can say that I am looking forward to the premiere even more than I was before! If you haven’t already, make sure that you follow him on twitter at @RyanCartwright and be sure to tune in to the premiere!

Season 2 of Syfy’s hit series Alphas kicks off Monday, July 23 @ 10pm with an action packed premiere that picks up eight months after last year’s stunning season finale.
