Starz is set to announce that the next season of its historical drama Spartacus will mark the show’s final outing.
The upside: Creator Steven S. DeKnight promises the remaining episodes will be spectacular (see the final season poster here). “This season is bigger than anything we’ve attempted,” DeKnight says. “The scope and scale is just amazing. We’re dealing with massive battles between thousands of people. We hope to leave people feel satisfied.”
DeKnight says he’s been 90 percent certain for months that the upcoming third season — subtitled “War of the Damned” — would be the last for Spartacus. Creatively, the writer-producer assures that the timing will result in a strong tale. The historical foundation for the rebel leader’s journey, he says, lends itself to wrapping up the show sooner rather than later.

Also just read it. Sad to see it go.I had hoped that it would end with four seasons like The Tudors.
ReplyDeleteThe talks of SDK helming another new series should have been indication enough, that this will be the last season.
Also, sounds like they're doing only 10 episodes. Not good, not good at all. I was expecting a 5/6 seasons run.
ReplyDeleteI'm really surprised. I actually expected one more season after this one. After how slow this past season was it will definitely feel like they're cramming a lot into one season.
ReplyDeleteIt is 10 episodes. It's mentioned in the article.
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly what I meant.
ReplyDeleteLast season was their worst season, not shocked.
ReplyDeleteDamn, did not see that coming.I was expecting at least one more season... : (
ReplyDeleteDeKnight once said that the end of the series would show the end of Spartacus himself, there would be no text in the end, informing the viewers of what happened afterwards.I wonder if that's still possible.
I mean, they have a lot of events to cover and I'm pretty sure they won't stick to the actual facts anymore.
For example,I don't see them splitting Spartacus and Crixus up.
We have 10 episodes,6 "main" characters,3-4 we know from last season(Saxa and the rest) and whoever they're gonna introduce next season.Yep,they'll be dropping left and right like flies...
I think when it was written they dragged it out so that Spartacus' vengeance on Glaber was in the ultimate episode and they were assuming at least one more season after Season 3.
ReplyDeleteI still loved the second season, but it started to feel a little repetitive.
ReplyDeleteSo if they think this is for the best, I'm glad they can end their series when they want (that's how it should be).
to hell with all u boring ppl... spactacus is awsome.. cant wait for the final season.. be amazing to see julious ceaser confront spacky.. man its bank holiday here in the uk thanks to the queen.. im wasted and been at a neighbours party.. f**ked up :P
ReplyDeleteNoooooooooooooooo this is what happens when I get into shows but at least it seems like Steven wants it to end there
ReplyDeleteSad news. The last season are so good, can't the third will be the end.
ReplyDeletesad :(( but can't wait!
ReplyDeleteWe all know that that the story would need to end eventually and that the ending would not be a happy one. What concerns me is that seasons 1 and 2 and Gods of Arena have been very methodical and dare I say almost slow in the plot advancement. That's not a criticism because the show has been excellent. To suddenly wrap up the broader revolt against Rome (vs Romans in Capua) with only one season involving the legions of Crassus now seems rushed. Hopefully the season will be more than ten episodes.
ReplyDeleteWell it seems like it was a somewhat consious decision and I'm glad they seem to have had a decent heads up so even though I'll be sad to see it go, I'll agree with SDK it is a show that's better to go on top...
ReplyDeleteI'm still finishing "Vengence", but bittersweet to look forward to another season but now knowing that it will be the last. I knew that the story of Spartacus had an ending (somewhat) from what I've read about the story and didn't think that it would come this quick...
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope he keeps his word and makes another 6 episode prequel sequel to Gods Of The Arena like he said he would do...
