Snow White and the Huntsman - Film Review by Kyle
Jun 3, 2012
MoviesOnce upon a time in a land called Hollywood, two Snow White movies were released in the same year...but who came out the fairest of them all? The answer, is that it was not the one with the Huntsman.
Kristen Stewart stars as the princess with 'skin as white as snow' in Snow White and the Huntsman, but the real star of the film comes in the form of the deliciously evil queen played impeccably by Charlize Theron.
From the producers of last year's visually stunning Alice in Wonderland, the early promotional spots for Snow White looked fierce and intense. However, the epic battle sequences that were on full display in the trailers was unfortunately not what was packed in the 127 minutes seen on the big screen. Instead, what was seen was a darker take on a familiar tale with unbearably slow pacing. The first half hour of the movie was spent setting up the plot, and a drawn out segment halfway through the movie with the seven dwarves was unnecessary and slow.
Other than Charlize Theron, the cast of the film was rather muddled as well. Kristen Stewart is up to her same, dull Bella Swan acting tricks, showing little to no emotion as she struggled her way through playing the role of a strong heroine. Chris Hemsworth, who plays the Huntsman, delivers a performance that simply feels like a rehash of Thor only with darker hair and a dirtier face. His odd accent amidst a cast of British accents also did not help. British rising star Sam Claflin portrays Prince William, who while talented, was left with barely anything to do. The Seven Dwarves were also nothing special, and it felt like they were only thrown into the mix to stay true to the source material.
What would have been an action-packed and grittier take on the Snow White story failing to meet expectations. As a result, the final product was just a glossy piece of eye candy, with little to no substance to give the film a sustainable presence.
In a summer packed with big blockbuster action flicks, Snow White and the Huntsman was unfortunately not one of them, and as I predicted back in March after watching Mirror Mirror, the Lily Collins starring fairytale flick was much more enjoyable than this adaptation.

Ouch. Well, they did cast Kristen Stewart, so... what can one really expect?
ReplyDeletei saw the movie and these version is completely different of the original snow white is a warrior princes, there appearance is more strong and the wake up kiss is the huntsman who did it and no the prince real AWESOME ,,,between,,MIRROR MIRROR and these kristen and charlize version the second win by far i am agree about some details describe in the top of these review are minor but the most important things the producer and director purpose were deliver THIS IS POWERFUL VERSION OF SNOW WHITE
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this.
ReplyDeleteDisqus generic email templateI promise that you wont get disappointed specially charlize performance she was..PERFECT.
ReplyDeleteWOW. You should never spoil a whole movie (or parts of it) in a comment without saying BEFOREHAND that spoilers are to come.
ReplyDeleteI will not watch the movie, so I couldn't care less, but there are people who might want to and you just ruined it for them by telling them about the wake up kiss. That is not right. This might be a spoiler site, but everytime there is a spoiler people write that beforehand in order for the readers to be able to choose if they want to keep on reading.
You should really edit your comment in order to either erase the spoiling of the wake up kiss or write in capital letters that spoilers are to come.
You hang around a site called "Spoilertv" and then get angry when you get spoiled? Really?
ReplyDeleteThere are certain unspoken but universal (or so I thought) rules:
ReplyDeleteFor Television:
After the episode has aired it is alright to speak of plot points.
Any time before you need to at the very least warn people so they can choose to keep reading or not.
For Movies:
After the Movie has run it's course in theaters, and has been released on DVD then it's fine to speak on plot points.
Anytime before that again you should warn people.
For Books:
It is never polite to spoil the ending of any book at any time.
I agree Cathy.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The movie wasn't as good as the trailers made it out to be. Charlize was amazing though. Other than her, the cast was terrible. Kristen looked out of place and showed no emotion as all, which is not surprising at all considering her terrible skills at acting and lack of emotion. Chris Hemsworth was terrible and even when i watched the movie, I depicted him as Thor. The movie's graphics were good, but other that that aspect, Charlize was the only good actor in this movie. She deserved better.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this movie. It was better than Mirror, Mirror in my opinion. I liked the darkness in it, and it was much more powerful than others I've seen. I didn't mind that it wasn't full of action because I was intrigued with the scenes and the different take on the tale, especially the Huntsman being the one to wake Snow White. That was one of my favorite scenes along with the scene with the troll and white stag. This movie was visually stunning.
ReplyDeleteI do agree there were some faults, but the good very much out weighed any acting struggles or slow start.
Trailer was awesome... movie was okay... Stewart was as bad as ever.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand that girl!
She always seems like she is so unhappy to be well... anywhere honestly. If she doesn't like being a star and celebrity she should quit the business. I almost said she should quit acting, but that would imply she started at some point....
Yes overall the movie was rather dull and predictable... it was like watching bad mix of Willow meets Pan's Labyrinth. But it was worth watching simply to see Charlize Theron who was perfect.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the 7 dwarfs... NOT from the original material. The original is Alexander Pushkin's The Dead Princess and the Seven Knights.
Amen. Wouldn't be able to say it better myself.
ReplyDeleteDisqus generic email template....my dear friend I only make a comment in response to the review wrote by Kyle if you said ..( I DONT WATCH THE MOVIE ) WHY BOTHER ? people reacts in different ways to the spoilers I saw the movie on internet and I speak in the same way kyle did that’s why spoiler exist to make a REACTION ..good or bad in your case (BAD)
ReplyDeleteOkay, everyone knows those rules, but do they apply to this site? it just feel so oxymoron-ey XD
ReplyDeletethis person get mad of me (nelly mendez) because i spoiled two scene from snow white movie, then already people saw it in internet i am agree with you why this person hang up in this site?
ReplyDeleteReally want to see this, tbh!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to wait for the dvd to come out.
ReplyDeleteThe moment I saw the first photos of Kristen Stewart I knew something would be amiss and Charlize Theron, while stunning, just seemed to look good. Have no inclination to spend $20.00 to go to this movie - I'll wait for the DVD thanks.
ReplyDeleteI can't really understand what you are writing (very confusing, as I believe many would agree), but as I said before, even in this site, they warn when there are spoilers to come, so people are able to choose which spoilers they want to read. I, for instance, read spoilers only about some of the shows I follow and opt not to read spoilers about other shows. If they spoiled everything without warning, I wouldn't be able to choose.
ReplyDeleteYou can write whatever you want as long as (at least this is the polite and considerate thing to do) you give people the choice to read the spoilers or not.
BTW, watching a movie on the internet is ILLEGAL, so you cannot assume that most of the people do it.
Yep, these seem the rational, polite and considerate rules to me.
ReplyDeleteSeveral people do get angry in case something is spoiled on a headline or without warning. You might want to read spoilers about one show but not about another and if people go spoiling stuff aroung with no warning whatsoever one ceases to have the choice.
ReplyDeleteIt was so boring. And Kristen Steward can't act and hers are the most exaggerating breathing scenes I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI loathe Kristen Stewart as an "actress". Talk about fan girls making a star out of someone. As much as I love Charlize I refuse to see this movie in theaters. I will wait until it comes on HBO, Showtime or Starz or Cinemax, so I can yell at the stupidity in the privacy of my own home (and not have to pay $10 for a drink).
ReplyDeleteDisqus generic email template...darling how many pills you swallow I wrote this opinion to a person that cant understand your reaction to my comments and now try to ADVICE ME to do it to MAKE YOU HAPPY, MY FRIEND YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY COKE IN THE DESSERT THE PEOPLE IS CHANGING TO PEPSI ..and about the last sentence in what KIND OF UNIVERSE OR WORLD YOU LIVE..you speak like a teen or child with a tantrum is normal for a human been don’t get alone with some statements like you did is ok for me but ALL THE PEOPLE DONT THINK THE SAME WAY LIKE YOU DO......and the people make a choice to read it or not you must read other post related about the comment is very polarized.
ReplyDeleteYes they apply. This site isn't all spoilers all the time, it has reviews, recaps polls and a lot to offer. when a person comes to read a review before seeing the movie then they don't expect to be spoiled of major plot points in the comments, they expect to read the review, then read the corresponding comments that either agree or disagree with said review so that they can make a somewhat informed decision on whether or not to go see the movie. I was planning on seeing this movie in the cinema, but now that I know certain plot points I will wait until the DVD and maybe by then I will have forgotten this, or at least I won't have spent 20 bucks to realize that I am not enjoying the surprise due to being spoiled.
ReplyDeleteI am not against spoilers, in fact I really like to read set reports and such, on movies and shows, but there are obvious posts and threads devoted to this. A review thread is not the place for it.
If The commentator would have simply put in uppercase letters that plot spoilers follow we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.
The movie JUST came out this week in theaters worldwide, why would you think it is fine and dandy to spoil it for people who may not have had the time to go yet?
ReplyDeleteYou don't get it do you? It's not like this film has been out for weeks and weeks, it just started Friday. You are publicizing major plot info into a comment that will be read by many people who have not seen the movie yet. They are not reading your comment to be spoiled, they are reading it for your opinion on the film. You can give an opinion without giving away details but you really seem like you don't get it so I digress.
ReplyDeleteAll I ask is that you go up to your original comment and hit the edit button then put in big letters (SPOILERS FOLLOW) that is all.
Disqus generic email template....OMG...what a commotion for two spoiler that I make to a movie that KYLE make a review because ( she or he) already saw it, pay in the theater or threw the internet, I can believe this ,THAT’S THE TRICK the curiosity to verify . Sent: Sunday, June 03, 2012 1:23 PM

ReplyDeleteSPOILERY
ReplyDeleteI took my two teenage daughters to see this and they both hated it im afraid. I found the pacing was off and there was an awful lot of wandering around doing nothing but, well walking! And miss stewart just had a pained expression on her face for the whole bloody film! and as for the ending...... Did they run out of money and just leave the last scene out or did I just not get the subtle nuance of it. Actually by then I couldnt give a toss! Plus please explain how Lily Collins..... yep dont bother its a spoiler and again too boring to give a monkeys!
It is a major plot spoiler do you not know what that means? Imagine that you were about to go see the movie "The Sixth Sense", and you were curious about the reviews, you come here to see what the reviewer thinks of the film,(his/her opinion on the film as a whole, not exact plot points) and in a comment below the review someone says He was dead the whole time, so it was a good movie. That is what you did here.
ReplyDeleteGet over yourself. You screwed up and you can fix it by merely editing your original post, and putting the words SPOILER at the top of it. The only reason I keep responding is because I think you truly don't understand what you did here, probably because you don't speak-a the English.
Good plan! XD
ReplyDeleteActually I have seen some film reviews (and recaps) on the site that do spoiler quite a bit, so I do think it's not unlikely to read a review with out spoilers, since otherwise it's really hard to give an honest review.
ReplyDeleteI agree that their should be some warning and consideration, but I also think the site is primarily a "spoiler" site. I mean even when we talk to each other about shows from post to post, spoiler to spoiler, it gets hard to not wonder and speculate if one bit of information goes with another bit and to be considerate to someone that has their own system to read only certain "bits"...
So I agree everyone should try to think about others, especially with films in theater, but I also think when a site caters to spoilers it's hard to know where everyone stands on it.
Yeah but I would consider this a major spoiler since most everyone knows and will assume it is the traditional version until they see the film, this would equate to a big twist to the original story, and a major difference in this particular film. So I feel un-appreciatively spoiled and have had my decision to watch this movie in theaters affected. Why spend the money now that I know the twist?
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is anything wrong with suggesting to you that there are people out there that haven't seen the film yet and also prefer not to be spoiled. A lot of people find it rude, not because you spoiled, but because you didn't warn people that your review is filled with them.
ReplyDeleteNo one is accusing you of the right to not have an opinion, just if you care about some of your readers not being angry with you, then you may want to consider that not everyone wishes to be spoiled (aka not everyone is going to switch to Pepsi, just because a lot of people have...I mean look at facebook! did you invest in it?).
How is anyone "suppose" to know what it is their reading, if the writer hasn't told them ahead of time? It's just nice manners to give people a heads up.
Again: SpoilerTV, this just feels like the place for not having to warn about spoilers in comments.
ReplyDeleteJust because you repeat it doesn't make it any more right than it was already. To be clear you don'T HAVE to warn people but it is the considerate thing to do. It only takes a second to write SPOILER so...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he/she didn't mean to spoil me or anyone else, but they need to be aware that by not writing the word SPOILER (when posting MAJOR plot TWISTS)they are basically hijacking the right for people to read a simple review (and corresponding comments) while trying to avoid spoilers.
Dude, I get it; and I would agree with you if this had happened in any other site. But every time I have come around a spoiler (big or small) in this site; be it in articles or comments, It just goes with the territory for me.
ReplyDeleteIt is just the type of thing I have came to expect.
Look I have been around here for quite a long while now, and for the most part you are correct, but you are wrong here. Reviews don't usually contain spoilers. here or anywhere. If they do they usually have a warning. this particular review does not have any spoilers, but this other commentator most certainly did put spoilers in his/her comment without a warning.
ReplyDeleteLike I said in another post, I don't have a problem with spoilers, that is why I have been coming here for 3-4 years, but I do have a problem with spoilers where they don't belong. Sometimes I come here to read a reviewer's opinion on a film because I respect the opinion of that reviewer or the integrity of the site as a whole. This website has always had integrity when it comes to posting spoilers responsibly, but the commentor in question is a prime example of no integrity. And to top it all off instead of admitting his/her mistake, and editing his/her post (which is quite simple to do) to warn people he/she chooses to argue this to the point of ridiculousness. Then you come along and try to stoke the fire, with the oh so original comment that we've all seen about this being SPOILER TV. ( I admit to saying this once or twice myself, but on a thread where it was alright to speak of plot points, after a show aired) Point is there is a place and time to post spoilers and reviews are not the place, and two days after a movie is released is not the time, at least not so without proper warning.
Like I said SPOILER TV is more than just outright spoilers all the time. This site is an entertainment blog that has risen to the ranks of TV guide, and Entertainment weekly in my opinion. Just because the word spoiler is in the name, doesn't mean it's fine to be irresponsible when it comes to posting spoilers. I mean for God's sake when was the last time you saw a music video on MTV? Things change but names remain the same.
Disqus generic email template...O.M.G I had to be a astrologer or gypsy ..had a magic ball .to warn people about my future ..WRITING ..is the first time that I wrote something and cause this hysteria, commotion, outrage since when I had to care about other people thoughts or reaction I am not a politician ,preacher, teacher I am simple human bean and I don’t had to ask or warn anyone UNLESS the president of spoiler tv BANNED ..ME .. if my comments are inappropriate
ReplyDeleteYou are so self absorbed. Don't you realize when you post in a public forum people read your stuff? Now you do, and since you now know, then if you fail to be considerate you only make your future comments something to avoid. So you might as well be posting to yourself. Just edit your comment for God's sake, admit you made a mistake.

So fix it then. Damn!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I had no clue that this had became this messy with the op cause I'm replying from my Disqus page; this has gotten way dramatic.
ReplyDeleteYou are entitled to feel like this, but you are taking this too serious. You are writing long winded posts about someone spoiling a movie in spoiler tv, and that is just too ironic to not feel amused.
But if you really feel that this spoiler in comments thing is important (cause I personally don't mind) You should contact the admins. If this is a comm wide issue, it is reason for at least a debate and the adoption of a firmer stand.
Fair enough. I'm hard-headed, and that will not change. I just hate when someone cannot admit when they are wrong, I don't mean you either, I mean the OP. By the way I did flag the comment but no one has removed it or edited it yet so. I see how this is amusing, and I must admit I am having fun replying to everyone too. I just like to beat dead horses for stinking so badly.
ReplyDeleteAt first I
ReplyDeletedidn’t want to be rude or to be too direct, but your less-than-polite choice of
words ("darling how many pills you swallow") lowered the politeness standards, so I will be very direct: learn English.
The thing you are writing surely isn’t English. A couple of mistakes can always
be tolerated but the sentences have to at least make sense and the “stuff” you
are writing sure doesn’t.
BTW, curse
as much as you want, because I won’t be responding to your “comments” anymore,
because I find spoilertv.com to be a very polite and friendly place and want to
keep it that way. I made constructive criticism and you responded rudely to it.
I shouldn’t have wasted my time with you and I want to apologize to the other
(not you, of course) spoilertv members for the trouble my constructive
criticism to this person may have cause.
ps.: I don't do drugs and I am really sorry if this is so common in your life that you believe it to be very usual.
Disqus generic email template...mmm..my last response TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF,BE THE GOOD GIRL NO MATTER IF OTHER PEOPLE THINK, ALWAYS FOLLOW YOUR HEART, I AM A VERY DISTANT (POSSIBLE) FRIEND THAT’S MEAN NEVER TAKE FOR GRANTED ANYTHING NEGATIVE I WROTE, BIG DISTANCE HUG & FOREHEAD KISS
ReplyDeleteUm. I think you should take your own advise. Yes, you should have considered what you wrote and how it will effect others (otherwise why write a review???)
ReplyDeleteAdditionally I would say your the one acting hysterical. You could have politely responded, and said, "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't think or know that might disappoint someone." Or at least, "Your comments are being taken under advisement for future use." Your the one getting very upset over our reactions, being an extremest, using crazy analogies, instead of meeting people half way and be a mature conversationalist.I mean really what's the big deal and going back and adding the word "spoiler" in either the title, or somewhere in the paragraph? -You can edit your post.
Me too!
ReplyDeleteHow are you doing? I've been following the fiasco that's been going on down below.I would join in but i don't think it would do any good, either she doesn't understand,or shes just thick and stubborn..
ReplyDeleteI haven't posted much over the last 2 days,my back has been giving me grief and with the pain meds it gets me a little loopy, and tired..
Actually this is closer to the original-traditional story (Brother Grim) as other versions (Disney) have watered it down.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree that this was a big reveal and it would have been nice to have been warned about.I don't have a problem being spoiled at all. In fact I find it enhances my viewing experience, because it allows me to think of other things than just the plot. But I think we have given Kyle a little too much attention already and now we know Kyle gives BIG spoilers and he's not very polite to readers who disagree with him... and those that want to avoid his reviews can.
Disqus generic email templatein that case ask ..KYLE he or she WROTE the review and I give my opinion about It and everyone is angry for two thing never change in original or other version example (MIRROR,MIRROR) because they are apple pie sweet movies and the change made was for comedy purpose but these version is adult center I receive threat from people that they will not reply to my future comments well don’t click the button every post I wrote I didn’t expect will be deep, poetical o leave a mark in there life sometimes I wrote simple funny things if people like it or not is OK I WILL STILL REPLY TO OTHER POST and WRITE MINE
ReplyDeleteLet me correct you; it wasn't Kyle it was that dimwit nellymendezcolon, a commentor.
ReplyDeleteKyle did a smash-up job with the review.
You know that reply button you speak of? Well right next to it on your original comment there is this little invention called the edit button. Use it to make this right. You see all you do is click it, and then go to the top of your post and then hold down the shift key while you type out the letters: S-P-O-I-L-E-R. Very simple fix to a dumb mistake. Otherwise you are just a troll who cannot admit you were wrong, and/or guilty of 1st degree spoiling.
ReplyDeleteYa.Hi! I am done with this fiasco! :p
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has said everything anyways! Sorry about your back. All day my arm has been falling asleep and I keep dropping things! XD
Oh. I thought they were the same. Sorry then to Kyle, but everything else I said still stands to nelly....
