After a long search, NBC and writer-producer Bryan Fuller have found the star of their upcoming drama series Hannibal.
Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen has landed the coveted role. You may not recognize his name, but we consider the actor a great get. He’s best known as the blood-crying villain Le Chiffre from the James Bond film Casino Royale and was just honored with the best actor prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt. He also had a supporting role in the Clash of the Titans reboot and was recently offered a villain role in Thor 2.

Really, really good actor -- great choice.
ReplyDeleteYay! This is awesome. I'm a Dane, so this is pretty special. Also, I love the 'Hannibal Lecter' books. Congratulations to Mads Mikkelsen. Also nerds will know, that Anthony Hopkins will be in Thor 2, reprising his role as 'Odin' and that Anthony Hopkins is the original 'Lecter'. Hopefully Mads will be in that too... :D
ReplyDeleteNerds will know that Brian Cox was actually the original 'Lecter'...
ReplyDeleteInteresting choice. Will have to investigate this show.
ReplyDeleteAwsome, this made the show look even better.
ReplyDeleteIt's a baby of Bryan Fuller, so I had no doubts the show would be amazing. Mads' addition seals the deal.
ReplyDeleteAnd just as we were dream casting him for GOT S3 and expecting he wouldn't have to time to film due to other commitments. Seems like Hannibal got him first!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, in 'Manhunter' from the mid-80s. You're completely right on that. :)
ReplyDeleteexactly my thoughts :(
ReplyDeleteI only know him from James Bond, but I'm hearing good things about him, so it sounds promising! They still have a few roles to cast, but I'm starting to get hopeful for the show.
ReplyDeleteHopkins worked because he did the Sherlock Holmes bad guy thing and circled all the way around from insane-creepy-criminal to smart-intuitive-likable. Hannibal is evil but captivatingly so. Not sure that Dancy can overcome the creepy factor of this dude.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping Mads for Game of Thrones! He is awesome though.
ReplyDeleteThat is really great casting. Makes me even forget the awful, headless poster.
ReplyDeleteI'm still curiously hopeful for NBC on this show as it does seem quite a bit out of the box, and am not right away familiar with Mr Mikkelsen, but seeing the praise from the previous posters I'm thinking that this was a good choice and will look forward to seeing what Brian Fuller will come up with
ReplyDeleteVery good actor, interested to see him in this role.
ReplyDeleteWell this is almost enough to think I might give it a try...
