Grey's Anatomy - Chyler Leigh explains why she left
Jun 1, 2012
Grey's Anatomy
“Earlier this year, I made the decision that Season eight would be my last on “Grey’s Anatomy.” I met with Shonda and we worked together to give Lexie’s story appropriate closure. I am very lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for five seasons. My experience on “Grey’s Anatomy” is something that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I want to take this time to say thank you to the fans. Your unconditional love and support have made these last five years very special for me. I look forward to my next chapter and I hope you will continue to follow me on my journey.”
I wonder why she waited this long. But nice statement!
ReplyDeleteAt least she said something..
ReplyDeletedoesn't really explain WHY she left, just states that she did decide to do so..
ReplyDeleteShe really doesn't owe us a reason to say why she left.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she said something, but still sucks that Shonda gave us hope and then tore our hearts out, lol ;-) akes for good TV I s'pose.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice she commented when she didn't have to.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Lexie's story was given 'appropriate closure' though.
I'm still not ruling out the idea that she was cut to save money because of the original cast renewing their contracts. With Pompeo coming back, there was no longer any reason to keep little Grey waiting in the wings to take over the series lead. She became expendable and a network bean-counter casualty.
ReplyDeleteNice to get a statement from her, she will be missed!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, she doesn't owe us a explanation of why she wanted to leave, altough the title of the post is " Chyler Leigh explains why she left", so people just concluded that would have the reason why!! So, she didn't gave us the explanation, however she said something for us!! Hope you did understand what I just said here!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad she addressed the issue, but I still think it's a little vague... still, at least she's not just being silent about the whole thing. As arrogant as this might sound, I think the fans deserve some sort of an explanation. She doesn't need to get into excruciating detail, but like I said... I'm glad she at least spoke up.
ReplyDeleteHappy she has said something, and thanked her fans. By no mean's does she owe us an explanation as to why. Wish her luck in her future ventures.
ReplyDeleteKnowing it was her choice to leave makes it easier but I'm still so angry Lexie was killed!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what TV Guide said! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice of her to commented when she didn't have to, Thanks her fans, she was amazing by playing Little Grey, she's gonna be missed, but her decision is very honorable...... stay with her family
ReplyDeleteBut I think that she was tired....being on the show for 5 years! It's a long time and I understand she wants to move on and do something else
I did understand. I see it the same way. I'm not complaining about her not giving us the reason, but about the title raising my hopes for an explanation. I always like to read interviews with the cast or statements, etc. So when I saw the title I was like "Whoa stuff to read".
ReplyDeleteAnyway- I'm sad Chyler is no longer part of the GA-cast, I really liked her and her character Lexie.
Me too. It was closure, but it wasn't appropriate. A confession of love before death is never appropriate, at least not in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious, what kind of "closure" would have been appropriate?
ReplyDeleteI don't get what people expect her to say? I mean especially if she was cut for money... I mean she isn't going to say "Everyone else demanded more money so they just cut me!"
ReplyDeleteShe thanked the people who supported her - that's all that matters.
well good for her
ReplyDeleteNah, I think if Shonda had to cut someone because of financial shortage, she would cut Jesse or Sarah. They're not nearly as essential as Chyler for the show. And Shonda already explained in an interview that Lexie could never replace Meredith as the "Grey" in Grey's Anatomy. Lexie would not have become the "main character" in case of Ellen's department. Besides, there was NEVER ever a reason to keep Lexie "waiting in the wings", she was a character, not a back-up plan?!
ReplyDeleteJesse and Sarah don't make as much so there is less of a financial burden to keep them compared to the money they'd save by cutting Leigh's salary.
ReplyDeleteAs for how things were explained in an interview, when someone leaves a show the public is rarely ever treated the the truth about the circumstances.
Best case scenario, Lexie not even dying. But that was obviously not an option.
ReplyDeleteWhat bothers me about the way things ended with Lexie was that Shonda first raised the viewer's hopes about a Mark-Lexie reunion and then killed her. I think it would've been better if Lexie hadn't confessed her love in the first place or if Shonda gave Mark and Lexie way more interaction during the season. Both would've caused me to not have this bittersweet taste about her cofession or Mark's confession or her death. Thus: appropriate closure.
Cut them both, I say, maybe that makes up for the costs. They're both useless to the show. And I don't even dislike them.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, which is sad but understandable. It would be ridiculous to have Chyler make a statement about how she was cut due to financial shortage.
Anywho- I'm gonna miss Chyler/Lexie big time. I really liked her.
I liked the ending Lexie got even if I'm sad that she won't be there anymore. And gods, I feel bad for Meredith, another person close to her and another family member dying! Poor Little Grey.
ReplyDeleteyou know...i like greys anatomy. i do. but the way the characters leave in this show and house md really ticks me off. its funny how certain shows are like this and they end up painting the actors in some cases as being egomaniacle fame hogs that confuse themselves with their character and want too much control over what happens. just saying how it's the writers, directors, and the bigwigs that have the last say. it's illogical to think that an actor, struggling or accomplished, would be as big of a dbag like some have been made out to be. in this case that's not what i mean, but worth mentioning to say this. its usually the things that aren't said that tell the real truth. i'm thinking the question of why she left was asked and she's contractually obligated to not say anything but the standard bs press release
ReplyDeleteAlso happy to just hear from her, and a nice gesture to her fans. Perhaps she just wanted the people to calm down a bit first before giving a statement? Who knows. The real reasons as to why an actor has/wants to leave are often discovered way later, here's just to hope it's nothing serious (familiar wise) and just the need to move on, do s/th different. At one point - one she has to decide when it'll be the time for it - she'll let us know about the reasons.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, I'm very sorry to have to say goodbye to her character, Lexie was one of my favs (and always will be), but she'll be remembered dearly. Bye, Little Grey, but hope to see you soon on a new show or movie, Chyler!
"Appropriate closure" PWAHHAHAHA. I'm sorry what?
