Community directors to helm Captain America 2

Nextmovie.com reports that Joe Russo and Anthony Russo have been selected by Marvel to direct Captain America 2, the sequel of Captain America (directed by Joe Johnston). Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, writers of the screenplay of the first film, are working on this follow-up scheduled to be released on April 4, 2014.

Joe and Anthony Russo have directed 14 episodes of Arrested Development, 32 episodes of Community and 7 episodes of Happy Endings. They recently directed the pilot of Animal Practice, a new NBC comedy starting this fall on Wednesdays at 8pm (Community alum Annie's Boobs co-stars). Other comedy series they were a part of include Carpoolers and two Will Arnett starrers, Running Wilde and Up All Night. They directed two films : Welcome to Collinwood in 2002 and You, Me and Dupree (which they also wrote) in 2006.

Given their background as directors of great comedy series, maybe the Russo brothers will inject humor and innocent jokes in the film, we'll see in 22 months !

  2. Okay, this is interesting news! Humour was present in Captain America so hopefully they'll keep that up. I wonder how that'll work, though - I guess most of the humour will come from Steve's adventures in the Land of Modern Times.

Anyway. I don't watch Community, but I know that it is acclaimed and well-made, so I'd say this is a good choice. Hopefully they'll deliver.

  8. Even though I love Community, and their first film Welcome to Collinwood, I am pretty shocked by this announcement. But very intrigued.

We'll just have to wait and see what they come up with..
