-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped the Tuesday metered market charts, as usual, with a 38 percent advantage over second-place ABC. Third overall was NBC, which is poised for victory among adults 18-49 thanks to The Voice, followed by distant Fox and, of course, The CW.

In season-finale news, aforementioned The Voice on NBC concluded season two with a 7.4 rating/12 share in the overnights from 9-11 p.m., peaking at an 8.1/14 in the 10:30 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, The Voice jumped 25 percent week-to-week (versus a 5.9/ 9 on May 1), with its highest rating on a Tuesday this season and best overall since Monday, March 26 (7.7/12). The Voice also built from an 8 p.m. edition of Fashion Star (#4: 3.1/ 5), which concludes next Tuesday, by a whopping 139 percent. There is no reason to expect a second season of Fashion Star.

NBC’s official fall 2012 line-up will not be revealed until Monday (or Sunday, perhaps). But there is every reason to believe The Voice will be upgraded to the fall. And if that happens, Fox may have to find a new home for sophomore returnee The X Factor.

On Fox, sitcom New Girl ended its first season with a fourth-place 3.9/ 6 in the overnights at 9 p.m. While that did built from year-ago occupant Raising Hope (#3: 3.2/ 5 on 5/11/11) by 22 percent, it was almost half the 7.4/11 it opened with on 9/20/11. An encore telecast of New Girl followed with a 2.2/ 3 (#4) at 9:30 p.m. And tired Glee opened the evening with a second-place 4.7/ 8 at 8 p.m. -- 30 percent below one year earlier (6.7/11). The lesson to be learned from Glee: it was too much too soon.

On ABC, season one of sure-to-be renewed Last Man Standing finished a respectable second, with a 5.1/ 8 in the overnights at 8 p.m. But, like New Girl, opening levels last fall for the Tim Allen comedy was considerably stronger at an 8.4/13 on 10/11/11.

Next on the alphabet net was Cougar Town with a 3.7/ 6 (#3) at 8:30 p.m., which could (and should) be heading to TBS if the network passes on a fourth season. At 9 p.m., the live Dancing With the Stars Results Show perked up to a dominant 10.4/16 at 9 p.m., followed by relocated Private Practice at a third-place 4.9/ 8 at 10 p.m. Private Practice, which is expected back for a final 13-episodes next season, dropped by 33 percent from year-ago occupant Body of Proof (7.3/12 on 5/11/11). Retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars (10.7/16), meanwhile, was only 46 percent.

In what was likely series-finale news, freshman drama Unforgettable on CBS closed shop with a second-place 7.0/12 at 10 p.m. Had the Poppy Montgomery crime solver been on another network, it might have had a chance for a second season. But the expectations on solid the Eye net, unfortunately, are higher than the competitors.

Earlier in the evening on CBS was NCIS at a dominant 11.4/19 at 8 p.m., followed by spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles at a second-place 8.8/13 at 9 p.m. Both dramas end their seasons next week, with NCIS: Los Angeles a two-hour installment.

The CW capped of this second Tuesday in May with already renewed 90210 (#5: 1.1/ 2), which concludes for the season next week, and week three of colossal dud The L.A. Complex (#5: 0.5/ 1), which proves that not every project from Canada succeeds here. Believe it or not, the 0.5 overnight rating last night is actually 25 percent above the 0.4/ 1 one week earlier. Growth is growth!
