According to Deadline NBC is in final negotiations to pickup a 10-episode internationlly produced pirate series for a March 2013 premiere, the series would get a blind pickup without a pilot.
The series is based on the book The Republic of Pirates by Colin Woodard. Set during the 10-year “Golden Age of Piracy” from 1715 to 1725, it follows some of the world’s most notorious pirates as they forge their own rogue nation, called New Providence, which became the first democracy in the Americas.

  12. A show like that might have worked thirty or even twenty years ago, and although I'm sad to say it,
I feel that we've lost the ability or the naivety if you like, to be entertained by that kind of "simplistic" story-line; or that it could keep our  interest for long. ( unless of course there is some hidden "Abrams" plot behind it but I don't think even then! ) :)
