Richard Wilson tweeted to Ian McKellen about doing a scene with James Fox yesterday. Fox's career spans over six decades, and he is of course the uncle to Emilia Fox who played Morgause for the last 4 series.

  1. It amuses me to no end that these two old men are tweeting back and forth.....
and yet it annoys me to no end that if my mom wants to send an e-mail I have to go to her place and do it for her! XDHopefully Season 5 will be more consistent than last year. Looking forward to it regardless though!

  2. Haha, I know what you mean, my mum bought a Kindle last year which has led to all kinds of interesting phone calls at all times of the day or night, usually because she can't switch it off :s lol.
I'm hoping that now they know that the show will be shown later that they will up the realism, I disliked the Gwen/Lancelot thing last series for example.  Very well played and filmed as it was, don't get me wrong, but I would love some more shades of grey in the characters as a whole.  If the world was as simple as either being a sincerely good or totally evil it would be a lot easier to get on it.  I know magic is the theme of the show, but surely people can make mistakes without having magic thrust upon them as an excuse for all their actions if 'out of character' imo.

  3. I think Gwen could certainly do with a few hints of greyish black.  Maybe now that she is Queen she will be put into situations weher she cannot always be 'good at heart' (no idea how often she has been called that throughout the seasons!)
Arthur has had certain unlikeable traits (being arrogant, condecending, opinionated, etc) and he has done some wrong (killing Queen Annis' husband, killing the druids).  I think it will be interesting to see how he reacts to Merlin's reveal and how he will be tested as a King.
Merlin himself will be put on a path between good and evil (according to the producers) in season 5.  Growing powers will bring a bigger responsibility, and temptation to 'play God'  might be strong.  We'll see how Merlin copes with that.
So hopefully all the main characters (apart from Morgana, who might plunge into even darker shades of black) will evolve out of their white little boxes.

  5. I think the show runners will never satisfy everyone. I for one was happy with how they handled the Gwen/ Lancelot story. From early on in the show it was clear, IMO, that Gwen and Arthur were the end game. The way all three parties were written, Arthur, Gwen and Lancelot, there could not have been a different outcome to this infamous triangle. Neither Gwen or Lancelot were the type to betray Arthur, both characters were too noble/honest for that. Glad that magic/Morgana was cause of the perceived betrayal. Nice twice to this triangle.
