Elementary star Jonny Lee Miller says the US update of Sherlock Holmes, for which he recently filmed the pilot, has "enough differences" to Sherlock to make it worthwhile.
Asked about the similarities to the BBC show, Miller admitted "Yeah, obviously you look at it and say, “Wait a second ... " But I feel there’s enough differences there. I thought I could do something with it; otherwise, there’d be no point."
Miller and co-star Lucy Liu - who plays a female Doctor Watson to his Sherlock Holmes - have just finished shooting a pilot for Elementary.
"We’re still waiting to hear what happens with it. We’re not sure yet; we’re taking it slowly," Miller told Vulture. "But it was just a great project. And a good opportunity for me. So that’s the way you weigh those things."

Well, I for one am looking forward to this! :)
ReplyDeleteI for another, am not :)
ReplyDeleteAnd i for one will at least give it a shot!
ReplyDeleteI don't have much of a problem of doing another sherlock take (there have been a million) but what I do have a problem is taking Sherlock out of London. The two are tied together. You can't have Sherlock Holmes without London.
ReplyDeletePlus the have already done a Sherlock update in America. It is called House.
I will never watch this show. Casting a female Watson? What are these guys smoking? It changes the entire dynamic of the relationship and as a result, the character itself. Just to create a difference between the UK show and US show, they have changed something so basic to the show that it will be unrecognizable as Sherlock Holmes to the fans of the books.
ReplyDelete" What are these guys smoking?"
ReplyDeleteI don't know but I would like to try :-D
It doesn't bode well If the cast feel already the need to defend the show
Sorry, not interested...
ReplyDelete"Plus the have already done a Sherlock update in America. It is called House."
ReplyDeleteWell said.
Yes, the last time that the cast had to defend a show before airing was The Playboy Club and we all know how that ended...
ReplyDeleteYes, an asian female Watson, an american Holmes, the show being set in the US...they should write a new show alltogether and avoid the Sherlock references. It's just going to be stupid.
ReplyDeleteyes! absolutely right. it doesn't bode well if they need to defend it before the show can even air. i hope this gets cancelled after 1 or 2 episodes. the creators obviously have no love for the source material, assuming they have even read it, and they just piggybacking the buzz around the UK series and Robert Downey Jr.'s movies.
ReplyDeleteNext time, they're going to "create" an regenerating alien who travel across the universe in a phone box.
ReplyDeleteIt would be different because the phone box would be red and the alien would have three lungs. ;-D
People are making way too big a deal of this.
ReplyDeleteHolmes is not an american. He is british who came in NYC for rehab or something.
ReplyDeleteThat's slightly better.
ReplyDeleteI have never minded Lucy Liu as Watson. It's the fact that they changed her backstory so much. But I love Sherlock Holmes, and things based on/inspired by Sherlock Holmes like The Great Mouse Detective, House, The Adventures of Shirley Holmes. I'm excited. I need something to watch now that 2 of my favourite shows ended and two are close to being canned.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is partially true. I saw the Playboy Club pilot and was never surprised at all that it got canceled so fast. It was terrible. However, I think this cast is defending their show for a different reason. Because Sherlock Holmes is so well known internationally, etc., people are trying to compare it to things they probably shouldn't. They're defending the show from the several misconceptions and misinterpretations that people are getting/having about it. Now, for all I know the show could turn out to be terrible and that would be that. But they're not trying to defend it because they think it's going to be a bad show. They're trying to defend it from all the misinterpretations and misconceptions surrounding it. I'm going to watch the pilot and see if I like it or not.
