CW update: Secret Circle and Ringer seem dead, everything else good
8 May 2012
Cancelled Shows Hart of Dixie Nikita Pilot Shows
According to sources at the CW, The Secret Circle and Ringer do not exist on any of the network's possible schedules and are considered dead. Gossip Girl, Nikita and Hart of Dixie are all likely to be renewed though most probably with shorter orders for all of them. The CW will launch several new shows in midseason. First Cut, Arrow, The Carrie Diaries, Beauty and the Beast, The Selection and Cult all seem likely to be picked up though the CW began having some doubts about Cult.
OMG...I hope so. I love Nikita a lot although not happy about the possible short order. Any idea when CW upfronts are?
ReplyDeleteAs long as my baby (SPN) is safe, I'm good. Think I'll also try Arrow next season.
ReplyDeleteHART OF DIXIE SURVIVES?! YES!!!!
ReplyDeleteGo Nikita!!
ReplyDeleteI think they will try to get Nikita to syndication, but if not at least they will have time to properly wrap up the series. Or if there isn't time, just have Percy nuke the planet if he can't run it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome that Nikita will survive, I'll take what I can get for it.
ReplyDeleteIf this is true, then I'm jumping for joy for NIKITA!!!!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteNikita MUST survive!!!!!! The best new in the gonna be the one when CW renews NIKITA!!!
ReplyDeleteCW Upfronts are May 17th.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to believe this though. Earlier this year they reported Gossip Girl certain to be renewed and it wasn't even part of the early renewals. THE SECRET CIRCLE has got to be renewed though! Please tune in LIVE on Thursday night folks right after TVD and watch the season finale, please.
I would also love the Nikita to be renewed, but I'm having my doubt about it.
I guess even 0.4 won't bring Gossip Girl down.
ReplyDeleteI'm good with a shortened final season for Gossip Girl... it's been tanking for too long, and I feel like it's unrecognizable at this point. They're lucky to get a final season, honestly. I'm sad about Ringer, though. I knew it had one foot in the grave for months, but I was still clinging to a last, lonely shred of hope.
ReplyDeletemy opinion long time ago secret circle lost his purpose there writers storyline begin to sucks & ringer is the most confusing, out of touch & reality ever,my premonition is carrie diaries and beauty and the beast will sunk there other shows there tittles are more suggestive to our imagination
ReplyDeleteIt would really suck to see TSC go, I think it would really pick up in the second season, but I want Nikita renewed FAR more.
ReplyDeleteNoooooo, season 2 for TSC pleaseeeee
ReplyDeleteThe storyline is better nowww
I blamed cassie-adam-jake triangle of this lost!
And I so wanted the CW to pick up The Secret Circle. :( I could care less about the other shows, but I want them to keep my favourite show!
ReplyDeleteGossip Girl gets one of the worst ratings on the networks and get horrible reviews all the time and yet that's likely to get renewed and a show like TSC that has been getting better and better as the season progressed isn't even being considered? This is crazy.
ReplyDeleteI love the Secret Circle and Nikita and Hart of Dixie.. very surprised about Secret Circle :(
ReplyDeleteIf Nikita is to survive they should put it at 9pm so it can benefit from SPN's audience because the gap between both shows should get even bigger next season.
ReplyDeleteGossip Girl didnt get an early renewal because they are fighting over how many episodes season 6 will have
ReplyDeleteNIKITAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo please Ringer, no no no no no no no no no please tell me no please, please, I'm desperate plese, OMG please o-my-god no :(
ReplyDeleteJust make sure and tune in LIVE for TSC this Thursday and persuade people you know to do the same!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping Secret Circle would make season 2, as I try to wait and see if a program makes it past season 1 before I watch (Terra Nova is a good example of why).
ReplyDeleteThey should just shorten 90210 and Hart of Dixie. Air them in them mid-season after Gossip Girl and Top Model go off air. Save the second Top Model cycle for Summer. Keep Cult and The Selection with 13 episodes and just replace them with each other. One in fall, one mid-season. I really can't imagine The Selection doing anything interesting in all 22 episodes. I just can't. A shortened season might be what's best for it.
ReplyDeleteNIKITA!!! YESSS!! PLEASE FULL SEASON!
ReplyDeleteThat's really unfair to cancel The Secret Circle =/
ReplyDeleteThis works for me. Definitely want more Nikita. And I will watch Hart of Dixie if it gets picked up. I already decided that after The Secret Circle finale I won't tune in if it gets renewed. It just doesn't do much for me. None of the new shows they seem to want to pick up really appeals to me. The Section sounds like it could be cool if they play up the visuals a bit. I enjoy a good dystopian story if done well enough. But I am not a comic book fan and have no interest in Arrow, though I do love me some Katie Cassidy. And as much as I like Mamie Gummer, First Cut doesn't sound all that great to me. And Beauty and the Beast? No. No, thanks. It sounds awful/ Carrie DIaries? Also feeling a no. Maybe when some more info and clips and whatnot come out. IDK....
ReplyDeleteI just wish they could pick up all these shows and give them 13 episode runs. I am excited for some new shows especially Arrow!
ReplyDeleteI agree I love Ringer! Still a lot of unanswered questions!
ReplyDeleteI also agree Ringer should b renewed. There are polls out there where it has higher ratings than other shows being renewed. I wont b watching the CW anymore. RINGER was like a soap w all the crazy drama.
DeleteYes, TSC gets better everyweek. It's not fair if this show doesn't get season 2. Please watch the finale episode this thursday.
ReplyDeleteThey have to renew The Secret Circle !!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously CW. Nikita can ba an anchor to show your network is more that the teeny bopper channel. Don't short change Nikita!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Secret Circle is getting better! I love it! Please, CW bosses keep it!
ReplyDeleteYess, cancel those two turd and keep NIKITA ffs.
ReplyDeleteNIKITA! Please;)
ReplyDeleteI knew it would happen. Pedowitz is really smart.
ReplyDeleteThe writing for the Secret Circle is bad, but I love the cast, especially Gale Harold. I'm disappointed there won't be a season two!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I just read someone saying they know some people from the CW and they said TSC is close to a renewal. I just think it's ridiculous how some people are writing off a show that was the second/third best rated show on the network for most of the season. This seems very fishy, still betting TSC is going to be renewed.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you read this at? I'd love to read it myself (not being sarcastic).
ReplyDeleteComeon CW, one 10 episode order for Ringer wont hurt!!! RINGER!!!!
ReplyDeleteTo the author of this post, "tariq gamei": stop being such a sensationalist moron, your posts always have shady titles which usually are just twisting the source, and this time you don't even have a source. I would stop messing with people's hopes if I were you. I think this site is very credible but your posts are the exception.
ReplyDeleteTo everyone: I think Ringer is gone but TSC has a good chance, there's a huge fan movement trying to save the show and it was the second or third best cw show for practically 90% of the season, and they just won't cancel it without testing it on a new night, it just wouldn't make sense. So don't give up on the show yet. Also pulling for Nikita!
It's still rumor. C'mon! TSC needs to be renewed. It's a great show. Watch LIVE on Thursday after TVD! And if we have to go, at least let's go with a BLAST on ratings!!
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% love TSC
DeleteI saw this too, here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt1837654/board/thread/198562380?d=198588984&p=1#198588984
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1837654/board/thread/198562380?d=198588984&p=1#198588984
ReplyDeleteI think it's this
If Ringer is really cancelled, The CW MUST pick up "Cult"... If they don't, well... I boycott every single show of the network !
ReplyDeleteIm right there w u. No RINGER no CW
DeleteSay it isn't so!!!! The Secret Circle and Ringer are the shows me and my husband watch!!!!! I love them!
ReplyDeleteAnd some random posts on the IMDB board don't qualify as fishy ?
ReplyDeleteTSC was the second best rated show for half the season only because of TVD. Since then, it lost half of its audience.
Not really surprised that they'll try their luck with so many new shows.I'll check out Arrow for sure and maybe The Selection and Cult(it has a promising cast).
ReplyDeleteNot many surprises with the cancellations either. For me it was a 50/50 chance between The Secret Circle and Nikita.I've stopped watching both shows, but I think I'll give Nikita another chance during the summer hiatus.
The Secret Circle unfortunately was a disappointment for me(and for the CW,as it seems).
NIKITA!!!!!!! Words cannot express my exiement right now!
ReplyDeleteYou do know SPN has already been renewed, right?
ReplyDeleteIt is quite unfair that Gossip girl is going to be renewed , this week only had 870,000 viewers and a 0,4 demo rating when The secret circle is always around 1 million and this las week was up.
ReplyDeleteI had Nikita, HOD, GG and TCS pencilled in for 13 episodes each. Ringer dead.
ReplyDeleteArrow, TCD, First Cut all full seasons
Cult, Beauty and the Beast and The Selection all 13 episodes each
Monday
8-The Carrie Diaries
9-Gossip Girl/The Selection
Tuesday
8-First Cut
9-90210
Wednesday
8-Americas Next Top Model/Cult
9-Hart Of Dixie/Beauty and the Beast
Thursday
8-The Vampire Diaries
9-Arrow
Friday
8-Nikita/The Secret Circle
9-Supernatural
Not surprised about Ringer or Secret Circle. I can also see shortened seasons for Nikita and Gossip Girl. I, however, would be surprised if Dixie isn't given a full season.
ReplyDeleteTSC has NO CHANCE. Between Dixie and Circle, Dixie is the highest rated (considering lead-in, night, promotion, etc.) and most praised new show. Critics and people don’t even talk about TSC. The CW wanted TSC to become the new Vampire Diaries, but since it fell short to expectations, they are getting rid of it without thinking twice.
ReplyDeleteShorter season orders for the bubble shows is a good idea, fills the gaps in the schedule and gives the fans less to complain about. Realistically barring all the new shows being absolute failure or a miraculous ratings recovery for the bubble shows all will be done next season. It will be unlikely that any of them return the following season.
ReplyDeleteThis does sound like a smart move.
ReplyDeleteThey took too long to get to the good stuff. They were on my radar right up until Touch got into full swing. Thursday is a huge TV night and they just can't compete. And the acting has not gotten any better and they really should stuck a little more closely to the books (the leads aren't as awesome as TVD to pull that off). I gave it a try (and I mean a really long try). But I feel bad for the fans that stuck it out only to get the rug pulled out from under them.
ReplyDelete90210 will be getting a full season
ReplyDeletetotal viewers doesn't matter and if it did around 1 million for a freshman show with a lead in as big as TVD that makes TSC an even weaker contender.
ReplyDeleteGG got a 0.4 this week but had 0.6 last week where TSC had a 0.5, I believe the same for the previous week too?
TSC had 0.5 for last three episodes :)
ReplyDeleteReally, a random IMDb is a credible source now
ReplyDeleteAs long as HoD comes back, I am happy. Even if it is just for 13 episodes. I don't know when, how or why I got so emtionally attached to that show but I really am and I don't want it to end. But I will take what I can get.
ReplyDeleteFUCK CW
ReplyDeleteAnd there is justice in the world!
ReplyDeleteSome shows simply do not deserve renewal....
The flipside of that is The CW's ratings / programming situation is so bad that they're probably going to order more new shows that deserve to be picked up also.
ReplyDeleteI really don't see why people think Arrow would be better after TVD than Beauty and the Beast. The same people who will watch Arrow most likely aren't the same people who watch TVD. Yes, that isn't always true but for the most part it is. However, those who watch TVD are likely to watch Beauty and the Beast. A lot of the TVD fans are watching for the the romantic aspect of it. And Beauty and the Beast will most likely rely heavily on that as-well. A lot of the people watching TVD aren't going to stick around for a show about a superhero.
ReplyDeleteWhereas Nikita fans, probably will. They're watching an action show. Arrow is an action show. It appeals to the same people. I think one of the biggest problems with Nikita is they pair it with the highest rated shows but they're shows that don't go together. TVD and Nikita didn't fit. Same with Nikita and Supernatural. Arrow is the first CW show that would be the perfect companion for Nikita. I also don't see how keeping Nikita on Friday will help it. If it stays on Friday, it's a goner. They might as well just cancel it now since it'll happen a year from now anyway. How is it supposed to improve in the same time-slot, paired with the same show? It can't. At least if they moved it to another night and tried to pair it with something else, if/when it does get canceled, they can at least say the tried to help it.
I also think putting new shows on at 8 isn't necessarily a good idea. They're new. If The Carrie Diaries came on after Gossip Girl or 90210, they'd get the chance to heavily promote it during the premieres. So you'd get a few of their viewers to stick around since they'd have similar viewers.
And putting two new shows together and having them both premiere mid-season isn't a good idea either. The CW hasn't ever had a successful mid-season show. So putting two on the same night likely won't achieve anything. Except cancellation.
secret circle dies ?
ReplyDeletei thought this was as good as vampire diaries? what happened
Nikita deserves a full season pick up.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I said should. It SHOULD get a shortened season.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for hart of dixie and nikita, and of course supernatural (my babys) and tvd xD
ReplyDeleteYes, very happy that Hart of Dixie has a chance!
ReplyDeleteThe thing about The Secret Circle is that is should have been bigger. It had everything that makes a successful CW show and it still didn't do all that well. It's not like Nikita where it's not necessarily The CW "brand." This was a show that is exactly what The CW does; yet it didn't take off like Gossip Girl or The Vampire Diaries did. It's kind of just there. So I don't blame them if they cancel TSC. TSC should have done better. It should have been a hit.
ReplyDeleteWell Ringer was the most talked about show and had the worst night on the CW (all new shows have failed, night has record for lowest ratings for a new episode in primetime history, Ringer was the first show in 3 years not to go under a million, when 90210 was in that slot it was on the bubble, night will likely cancel 3 shows that were in that slot this year alone!). I wish they would just renew HOD and Ringer. Give Ringer a 13 ep order and Nikita should be cancelled because it got more 0.4's than Ringer but Nikita is on the bubble pathetic! Oh yea GG just got under a million for the fourth time and got it's first 0.4. Ringer didn't get that low! Well actually Ringers ratings (without demo) have been usually better than GG but GG is likely to be renewed!
ReplyDeleteI think all the TVD comparisons really hurt it. TSC was almost painfully slow next to TVD, it felt cheaper and hollow by comparison. They went for a creepy undertone and a different vibe, and it bit them in the ass, because it retained TVD's audience initially and they had a real chance to take off.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame because TSC has gotten a lot better. It's found it's legs, and I would argue it's had a better second half than Nikita or Hart. But they kind of blew it.
Please.... They HAVE to renew Ringer!
ReplyDeleteSo? HoD was also supposed to be bigger because of Rachel Bilson's star power and its ratings are bad as well. Nikita was supposed to be CW's big hit with a strong and older female character, but it's hanging by a thread. The Secret Circle at least should get a new chance and a new day, the VD lead-in migh as well be hurting it than helping it. Also, I don't think the show is bad anymore, it's great at the moment, and it was one of the top rated shows they had for months. I think they would make a big mistake cancelling it or renewing HoD over it. HoD can only go down with that love triangle, while TSC can grow more because of the mythology and its fanbase is already building. I don't see ordering 5 shows as any help for the CW, that isn't the solution to their problems. More than half of the shows they pick up will fail even worse.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but still better ratings overall. More than HoD, Ringer or Nikita.
ReplyDeleteAnd this post without a link to a source is just as credible as that one IMO.
ReplyDeleteNikita is the best one!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNot gonna say anything about the author of the post because I don't know what's going on, but you are the same person who was partying because TSC was "definitely" getting canceled and you get to call people babies? Get over yourself and stop being such a hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteThat post is as credible as this one IMO. Both say they have CW sources, so why is this one more credible? And you can't really credit ALL of TSC's audience to TVD, it could do better or worse without TVD.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe this for a second.. at least not about secret circle. If you look at the overall ratings for the season it had a killer premiere and the first half of the season had good ratings 0.9 0.8 then solid 0.7s for weeks. Then it dropped. CW doesn't promote the show worth a shit, its on a hard night thursdays are tough. And the month long breaks between episodes make people lose interest, and they don't even show repeats. If this show was ondemand I would watch it the night of the day after and the day before the next new episode. The show is good, the actors are good, I like the storylines, its a supernatural show which their aren't much of anymore. And its been getting so good the last few weeks. Why would they cancel this show, I feel vampire diaries brings its down, cause your jumping from vampires to witches and people just love vampires nowadays. That's the only way a show or movie makes anything anymore. How pathetic that good shows get axed cause there's no vampires in it. Really? Save the secret circle, move it to another night and you won't be sorry.
ReplyDeleteHere Is my thinking.
ReplyDeleteMonday-September through december-First Cut,Hart of Dixie
January through Spring-First Cut,Gossip Girl
Tuesday-90210,The Carrie Diaires
Wedsday-America's Next top Model,The Selection
Thursday-September through february-The Vampire Diaires,Arrow
March through May-The Vampire Diaires,Beauty and the Beast
Friday-September-February-Nikita,Supernatural
March-May-Arrow,Supernatural
I think the CW will pair First Cut and hart of dixie at begining of season. After 13 episodes pull Hart of Dixie to burn off the final 13 episodes of Gossip Girl.Hart of Dixie could get a few addational episodes after Gossip Girl Is over If CW Is happy with It's ratings.
the CW will pari 90210 and The Carrie Diaries
I think The Selection will get paired with America's next top model.
I think Arrow will get the post Vampire Diaires timeslot for most of season.I Think Nikita will get 18 episodes so It will air though february. Then the CW will try airing arrow In Nikita's timeslot to test It on
Friday and then Beauty and the beast takes over post Vampire Diaires on thursday.
For Nikita to get a fourth season it would depends how Arrow would do In it's timeslot and If the CW will renew Supernatural for a 9th season(depending of course rather the actors and producers want to keep
going)
But bigger the mountain bigger the fall.
ReplyDeleteTSC had 1.3 and fell to 0.5 Same with Ringer: 1.2 to 0.4 Hod premiered with 0.8 and fell to 0.5/0.6.
I'm simply stating the facts, not bashing any of these shows.
You really missed the point of what I was saying. TSC is everything the makes a successful CW show. And yet, it doesn't have the buzz Gossip Girl or TVD had at that point in their lives. TVD still has more buzz around it and it's going into it's fourth season. I don't think anyone was expecting Nikita or Hart to be The CW's next big hit. TSC had those expectations and it didn't meet them.
ReplyDeleteI know, we just have different ways of seeing it. I still think TSC has the best chance to recover and become bigger.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The CW had high expectations for TSC. They expected it to be their next mega-hit and it wasn't.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a right to their own opinion :)
ReplyDeleteNooooo!!! I refuse to let them cancel The Secret Circle!! :(
ReplyDeleteI think the very high expectations worked against The Secret Circle in the end.It did well until Christmas but from there it went downhill very fast(1.3 to 0.5,that's really bad).
ReplyDeleteBased on the day,the time and the lead-in the numbers truly are disappointing.Even if it did get renewed they would move it to Friday and I think that they simply prefer to keep Nikita there, rather than risk putting a show that could get even lower numbers.
It just needs time. And there's a lot of buzz, maybe you're looking in the wrong places. TVD itself didn't breakout until season 2. Still, even if it doesn1t become the next tvd, it could still growe an audience and good ratings again.
ReplyDeleteNikita got worse numbers on thursdays, by that logic tsc would do better on fridays
ReplyDeleteSad to hear about Secret Circle. I love that show, I hope it's renewed! The CW better not cancel it!! So happy to hear that Hart of Dixie will be back!! All the new CW shows sound good. Really looking forward to Beauty & the Beast, Selection, Arrow & Cult!
ReplyDeleteare they going to end Ringer like that??? ughhhhh
ReplyDeleteAs I said,it did better until Christmas, but not anymore.
ReplyDeleteThe final episodes of Nikita last year had an average of 0.7.It fell to 0.6 in the beginning of the new season and now it has reached 0.4.
Secret Circle is already at 0.5.And given the fact that every show's ratings fall from one season to the next(and most shows on Friday take an even bigger hit),I understand their logic.
This is pathetic. The Secret Circle deserves a renewal. No more CW shows for me.
ReplyDelete"the VD lead-in migh as well be hurting it than helping it."
ReplyDelete"it was one of the top rated shows they had for months"
Don't you see the flaw in your logic here ? When it was the CW's top-rated show it was only thanks to TVD, but now that it tumbled it's TVD's fault ? You can't have it both ways.
HoD had virtually no promotion, got GG as a lead-in, but managed to stay relatively steady throughout the season (including in the spring when TSC tumbled) and even showed signs of growth around mid-season (it scored a 0.9 on it's 6th or 7th episode). This is exactly what the CW needs.
Don't watch either shows, btw. I'm just talking numbers here.
Ringer got the 3rd highest-rated show on the CW as a lead-in and TONS of promotion. That's hardly a tough start.
ReplyDeleteTSC had a good plot. It was very interesting and I don't think it would have failed if it wasn't for these horrible actor. There a some who are good but most of them are just untalented. That's the reason I stopped watching and I know many people who stopped for the same reason.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for The Secret Circle or The Ringer (although I watched it with Misha). I can live with Nikita and enjoy Hart of Dixie. I could care less about Gossip Girl. Not a bad selection. I am curious about the new shows. Some look like possible lead ins for Supernatural and for Vampire Diaries. The CW seems to be headed more genre. I like it.
ReplyDeleteThis site has a better track record and reputation for this sort of thing. Using IMDB as a source is like using wikipedia.
ReplyDeleteWith CW ratings as low as they are, I don't see that making a difference :P
ReplyDeleteCome on peeps! A short order? Give Nikita some love with a full 3rd season and move it to Thursdays to take Secret Circle's place!!!
ReplyDeleteRight. Take the lowest-rated show on the network and give it the best spot of the entire schedule, which it already wasted once in its first season. Makes sense.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is the ratings are gunna jump for the finale and then the average for the season will prove everyone wrong. The secret circle is a better show. I actually have the viewers for each episode.. pilot 3.05, 2.12, 2.12,1.96, 1.89, 2.12, 2.33, 2.26, 2.17, 2.05, 1.93, 1.63, 1.74, 1.82, 1.71, 1.62, 1.72, 1.33, 1.14, 1.15, 1.23. Id say its been pretty consitant. How can they cancel it when the viewers have been like that. Can any of the other new shows say they have had the viewer consistancy as the secret circle did. Only one week till we find out for sure I guess. I just hope they don't make a silly move. There's no other show on the cw I would watch. One tree hill is gone and if they cancel this I'm done with the network. Its sucked for a long time now.
ReplyDeleteI agree the writing hasn't been very good but I really like the cast and I'm not ready to let the show go.
ReplyDeleteTSC fans we need to stand up and be loud. Watch the show Thursday. Tell anyone and EVERYONE to watch it. Sign the petition, tweet about it, make The CW aware that if they cancel the show they'll be making a mistake. Look, I love Nikita and appreciate HoD. But canceling TSC when its been better than EVERY SHOW ON THE CW as of late is ridiculous. I will not give up. I've been through this with 'Roswell' we can save the show. We need to be loud.
ReplyDeleteI've been so confused lately. I hear TSC has a chance of getting renewed and then that it doesn't. I for one hope it is renewed I love the cast and the show just got interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou missed my point. I don't cry just because people bash Nikita or Dixie, and their ratings are awful. I watched TSC since the beginning and that's why I want the show axed. The CW has a lot of good shows on their schedule, and TSC (along with GG), are dead weight.
ReplyDeleteYES. We need to make a stand. Show them that they are WRONG.
ReplyDeleteNikita has gotten sooo good! if you stopped because of the first half of season 2 u should definitely start up again I nearly stopped too but I'm so glad I kept going the episodes keep getting better and better (I honestly dont understand how the ratings r getting lower I wish I could help but im in Australia which sucks) You won't regret watching it promise!
ReplyDeletePoor Ringer.... :(
ReplyDeleteI can understand GG and Nikita getting shorter seasons, but I would think HoD has more than earned a full season order....
I agree it certainly has the quality of an singature show, but this far in the game they've lost their chance.... if they had nurtured the show in it's freshman year maybe.... but now unfortunatelly it is too late.
ReplyDeleteRandom IMDB posts are ONLY fishy.
ReplyDeleteEspecially after the monday ratings... but I guess the whole giving a proper ending to a show that once was quite signature for the network has some basis.
ReplyDeleteActually, from my experience, IMDB is worst.
ReplyDeleteI bet there is more watching but not all of us have Neilson boxes.
ReplyDeleteI'm betting half won't work out all that well.
ReplyDeleteI watch only Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, and Nikita, so I'm really hoping this turns out this way and Nikita gets renewed. Short Season or not, I'll be happy just to have new episodes. Give them time to wrap everything up. I'm thinking next year may be Nikita's last, if so, they should announce it early and let the show make a great finale.
ReplyDeleteOut of the new shows listed I may try out Beauty and the Beast, Cult (if they decide to keep it), The Selection, and Arrow. I doubt any except Arrow may hold my attention. I'm waiting to see them first. But First Cut and Carrie Diaries I have no interest in at all.
Agreed. I'm very skeptical about The Selection and Cult.
ReplyDeleteGenre makes up the majority of what I watch so I like it too.
ReplyDeleteThat would be true for ALL shows.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time believing some of this. I like Nikita - one of my favorite "new to me" shows, but there is no way at all it deserves to be renewed. Friday factor or not, a 0.4 is too low. It will be the lowest show to ever be renewed on broadcast TV if my memory is correct. Even Supernatural reruns have hit 0.4 for most of the year and it's for darn sure that airing Supernatural reruns is cheaper than new Nikita. The idea that it would have a shortened season makes even less sense. The only possible reason to renew Nikita is if you see it going into syndication. However, Nikita is two full years away from that. To make a shortened season makes it that much farther away from syndication numbers. If Pedowitz renews Nikita, it will be because it is one of his favorite shows and that will make even less sense than Ostroff renewing Gossip Girl, which was her favorite show.
ReplyDeleteFinally someone with some reason! Bravo. And this is coming from a Nikita fan.
ReplyDeleteHoD is definitely dead weight as well then
ReplyDeleteCarina from Zap2It just talked to TSC's showrunner and the OFFICIAL word is that the CW hasn't made a decision on TSC's fate yet:
ReplyDelete"Just got off the phone with Andrew Miller. The CW still hasn't decided
on The Secret Circle season 2, so keep your extremities crossed."

ReplyDeletePLZ tune in and give the finale a chance! PLZ!
ReplyDeleteThis is me pleading with old fans plz come back!
u dont know HoD will be back either - its all TOSS UP from this point, depends on how they do finale wise
ReplyDeletethen watch on thursday - its not too late, Ringer is too late, but TSC we can do something tune in LIVE this thursday and lets make a miracle! PLZ! comeback fans! PLZ u dont knwo what ur missing !!!
ReplyDeleteno TVD is a house of cards - give it 4th season and watch it tumble mark my words! and mark my words cancelling TSC is going to hurt TVD, bc as TVD gets older it could use a newer show as a companion... Mark my words ur all gonna regret cancelling TSC - I PROMISE U and all the HoD fans out there who think the show is some effing Gift from God, u will see how it will crash and tank ;) Guess that what it comes down to "We'll all burn together", in the words of TSC karma is a bitch and will bite CW in the ass... mark my words remember this night, ive predicted shows for years u think u know it all? I was 13 years old i made my first gut prediction bc I
ReplyDeleteknow what works - TV is a gift for me- CW will suffer without genre shows how much longer do u think TVD and SPN will last? A year or two maybe ? then what? good luck finding another hit, TVD is gonna end up GG - people will get bored, then what? HoD? that was a bore from episode 2 - i already knew where it was going, I was like pffft this blows... I predicted 8 years for One Tree Hill back in 2003 min and guess what? What happened? When everyone was hypin The OC I said OTH is the one that will last... Charmed? No one can be Charmed, but this show had a good vibe going... unfortunately as we progress in technology networks and viewers alike get hostile and impatient, maybe its something ur missing out of your personal life that you are soo desperate to find in a CW TV show... but somehow we as human like to bag on everyone/thing but ourselves we cant help it! were twisted and we want our shows to be just like our mood swings and wants finally u run into a show and cant predict the outcome! Alert the authorities ! Im confused! Im upset... TV shows come and go, but most of them go b4 given a real chance- just like relationships, marriages, friendships... we treat entertainment like we treat ourselves - RIDICULOUS dont wanna escape? its cool go look at the walls - im thru trying to understand anyone on these posts...
ReplyDeletethe only really TVD had buzz bc it came out when Twilight and true blood did vampires were hot, but for some reason people have forgotten all about buffy n charmed and angel and cant see outside the vampire prism that is why, bc there was no twilght about witches - that is exactly WHY it had less buzz... its elementary really understand people's logic today is like training a dog- unfreakinpredictable and time consuming and ridiculous bc u end up right where u started. at least dogs are loyal
ReplyDeletesome people simply deserve no patience... i.e. you. if u were a show, id cancel u ... lol :D
ReplyDeletePleaaaaaaaaaaaaase renew Secret Circle!!!!
ReplyDeletePlease renewed SecretCircle!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy Cw Want to pick up 6 tvseries that next year at least one of them will be canceled? like Beauty & the Beast ، The Secret Circle Deserve season two
ReplyDeleteThe CW's future doesn't rest on The Secret Circle. It won't even be a blip on it's radar in a year.
ReplyDeleteomg CW i love you! my heart is restored, NIKITA for life!
ReplyDeleteI want more season to Ringer!!
ReplyDeleteNikita if renewed will be for international sales n stuff
ReplyDeleteThat won't accomplish anything at all.
ReplyDeleteZap2It.com just confirmed this post with their sources
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/#!/cadlymack/status/199956861884182529
But probably especially CW shows considering they are all more or less geared towards a young audience. And that's the demo that watches TV online the most.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P Ringer. :'( R.I.P The Secret Circle. :'(
ReplyDeleteIf Selection is at least semi-decent then it might coast off the popularity of the Hunger Games and make it. Similar to TVD with Twilight.
ReplyDeleteFirst Cut definitely looks like a mess but stranger things have happened. It's hard to predict what will stick with the teen demo. I mean, who would have guessed that 90210 would last?
Cult could go either way. The concept seems interesting but it's really up to the execution.
Don't be silly. CW have a bunch of shows that could easily replace TSC. Shows like Selection, Cult, Beauty & the Beast and that's just for next season. TVD might be getting older (and progressively worse) but it will still last at least as long as GG. Plenty of years for CW to develop shows in that genre, should all the shows for next season flop.
ReplyDeleteUnless there are other factors like international sales going for Nikita. Lbr, going by purely ratings, pretty much all CW shows are bad. So clearly they get revenue from other sources (product placement, international sales, DVD sales, Netflix, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI do agree about syndication though. If Nikita gets a full season order, I think they are aiming for that. If however, Nikita only gets a short season order, I think it's because CW wants to fill up the hiatus breaks with programming. I sure hope so, because it felt like this year had more breaks than usual.
Well, this is pretty good news for me since I care about Nikita's renewal chances. OTOH, even though I watch HoD I don't really care if it makes it or not. We're almost through an entire season, at it feels like nothing has happened. TSC does seem like it's heading for cancellation since it's ratings dive has been so great. Ringer is unsurprisingly dead. For a soapish primetime drama, lord it was boring! Revenge on ABC is everything it should have been. SMG is pregnant anyway so she'll probably welcome the time off. If or when she returns to TV, she can definitely do better things than Ringer.
ReplyDelete-For a start The Selection will have to air behind a repeat for a lot of the season if only aired on Wednesday behind ANTM. The CW actually had to move Hellcats from the post ANTM slot last season while it was between cycles, it was moved to Tuesday and lost a large chunk of its audience. So if you want to have The Selection on Wednesday behind ANTM you'll have to air another show in between cycles of ANTM.
ReplyDelete-The CW are highly unlikely to split the airing of thier most buzzed about new series on to 2 days through the season especially unlikely to do that on a Friday. If Arrow gets the post TVD slot as expected it will air all episodes post TDV through the season.
-If Nikita comes back to a short order it'll most likely be 13 episodes and there is pretty much zero chance it will get a fourth season as it would still be too many episodes away from syndication (even with an 18 episode season which would mean it would need to be renewed for a partial 5th season to make it to syndication)
That only works if you're a Nielsen household unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteNot really - The Secret Circle doesn't bring the brand awareness that GG does. No one in the cast has become famous like Leighton or Blake, either. I agree that SC has gotten a lot better over the year, but it's not buzzy like it needed to be
ReplyDeleteIt's tricky because Cult sounds pretty dark, which isn't exactly on brand for The CW.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Nikita is on Fridays. Ringer was Tuesdays - significantly higher property. Let's face it, Ringer was just really poorly executed. I loved the concept, loved the cast, but it had some of the worst writing I've ever seen on a TV show.
ReplyDeleteOh... =(
ReplyDeleteRinger is great and The Secret Circle got really good lately.
All I want is a new season for Nikita, even with 13 episodes only, it all that we need
ReplyDelete-The CW are likely to place their most buzzed about pilot on a Thursday (the highest add revenue night) after their biggest current hit.
ReplyDelete-Beauty and the Beast is rumoured to only be getting a half season order
-Beauty and the Beast is a crime procedural with a sci-fi fantasy twist
-Arrow would actual;ly work better infront of TVD rather than behind it but the CW are unlikely to move TVD from the 8pm slot but that will depend on the content of Arrow
-Arrow will likely bring its own fanbase and not rely on TVD fans, the show isnt necessarily aimed at them anyway
-Nikita will be lucky to get another season as it is they will not move it from Friday
-Nikita was last seasons pity renewal, the CW moved it to Friday because they needed something to fill the 8pm slot but likely knew it would die there and had no intention of keeping it. Their hands may have been forced due to the lack of successful new shows over the past few years.
-Moving Nikita to another day wont help it, shows tend to loose viewers over time not gain them.
-I agree they should cancel Nikita but they may keep it just to plug any holes in the schedule or due to a lack of options, you're assuming they actually want to keep rather than are being forced to keep through a lack of options. IMO placing a repeat in its time slot would save the CW money and garner the same result.
-Neither GG or 90210 are good enough lead ins for new shows
-8pm shows actually have a higher lead in than the 9pm shows on the CW with the exception of maybe TVD, CW affiliates air repeats before the 8pm shows that are likely to have higher ratings than what the 8pm CW shows actually get. ie. Nikitas lead in is probably higher than Supernaturals which airs after Nikita.
-New 8pm shows may actually help the low rated exsisting ones with an audience over spill. If people tune in at 8 they are more likely to stay tuned in at 9. If they air new shows at 9 after low rated shows like GG, 90210 than people might just decide to tune in at 9 for those shows only.
-Again the CW has only tried to air new mid season shows behind low rated exsisting crap, so off course the new shows are likely to fail. Airing two new shows on the same day midseason is more likely to attract viewers because they'll be tuning into two new shows rather than the CW jsut releying on the low rated exsisting show to provide the audience
when was the last time a CW shows grew an audience/in the ratings? It is more liekly that TSC will decrese in viewers and demo next season as with all CW shows. It seems to have settled on a 0.5 and around 1.2 million viewers now.
ReplyDeletethere is no proof of that only speculation. Given that people say the same thing about DVR and less people DVR CW shows than shows on the other networks I'd say technology isnt limited to young audiences. I think there might be some grasping at straws going on at the CW.
ReplyDeleteyeeeeeeeeeeeees nikita!!!!!! :)))))
ReplyDeleteNIKITA fans, please sign the petition:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.change.org/petitions/the-cw-television-network-renew-the-show-nikita-for-a-third-season and keep tweeting this link:
http://www.maggieqdaily.com/savenikita/ to the following: @WB_Home_Ent @WBpictures @CW_Network we need to show the network/studio what a dedicated fan-base this show has!!!
Heh. Alternately, if the CW decides to cancel the show, Percy should just nuke their headquarters and call it a day. He'd be doing the world a favor.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It's really odd that when moving Nikita to Fridays (a bad move in itself), they put it on 8pm and SPN on 9pm. WTF? It's pretty obvious that Nikita should have had SPN as a lead-in, not the other way around. SPN is the veteran show with a loyal following that's doing better on Friday than almost any other CW show on weekdays, and Nikita is the struggling sophomore. Not that I think Nikita would have gained *that* many viewers from SPN - there isn't a huge overlap between their audiences - but it makes much more sense than vice versa.
ReplyDeleteHow is DVR even comparable to illegal downloading and streaming? How many people have DVR? As far as I know, it's an American concept. How big is the audience for downloads? The world.
ReplyDeleteFor sure, illegal downloads are useless for traditional advertising. And perhaps that's why CW shows have craploads of product placement which actually works regardless of how you're viewing. Whether that's enough to keep CW alive... who knows?
True, but they are trying to branch out, I guess?
ReplyDeleteThe problem is if it's like Nikita and people won't watch because it doesn't "fit" with CW or won't watch because it's CW and the stigma that comes with the network.
Agreed! The cast is pretty great but lord the writing was tragic. I gave up midways because it took way more than the usual suspension of belief to buy into that crap!
ReplyDeleteYey for NIKITA!!!! Hope it's true, but a full season would be better...
ReplyDeleteThere doesn't seem to be anything really wrong with First Cut but most of the pilot's praise is directed at the show's lead Mamie Gummer and not the show itself. That's usually a negative sign.
ReplyDeleteThe Selection can only skate on Hunger Games enthusiasm for a few episodes. If the show isn't any good, they're not going to stick around just because it resembles the film.
Cult is a wild card and it all depends on the tone of the show, the likability of the actors, and their performances because something like this isn't anywhere near typical CW fare.
Nikita full season.its the only thing that makes sense.Since no show can do better than Nikita can do on fridays. It would be perfect to renew it for a full season with it only being 22 ep away from syndication then and would even better overseas then it already does it is already now the 3rd best seller for them after TVD and SPN
ReplyDeleteI don't find First Cut's concept particularly compelling so there definitely needs to be other factors that make up for it. And these factors could be anything really - the teen audience can be super unpredictable.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Selection cannot coast off Hunger Games forever, That's why I said it had to be at least semi-decent. However, Hunger Games will at least guarantee people giving the show a chance. The first couple TVD episodes were pretty cheesy, but the show hit its stride later on. (However, from what I've read about book Selection, the world is much better off without this trash and I personally hope it dies a quick death!)
Tvbythenumbers claimed that if CW renews Nikita for a third season, a fourth is almost a given because of syndication. If Nikita really does that well internationally, that could explain why it gets renewed regardless of bad ratings. As I said previously, ALL CW shows have crap ratings. There has to be other factors when it comes to their shows.
ReplyDeleteI like Mamie Gummer. She's a good actress and she was the best part of Shonda Rhimes' Off The Map so I'm willing to give her show a shot. The Selection? Not so much. Like you said - "a quick death" please and thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that was Supernatural a couple of years ago. I hope with all the people catching up on Netflix, it will grow again next year, but that is likely wishful thinking on my part. As far as TSC goes, I think it will premiere slightly higher than the finale and taper off a bit as the season goes on. My guess is it has hit the end of the freefall and the descent will be slow but steady from here on out.
ReplyDeleteNikita will never get a better night because its ratings don't justify it. Nikita is nothing more than a placeholder right now for the CW. Don't get me wrong. I love Nikita. However, if the CW wasted any money trying to improve its ratings, it would be a bad financial decision, hard to justify to shareholders. If Nikita really is being renewed then it is solely for international sales or syndication. Internationally no one cares when it airs in the US. It could air at midnight and make no difference internationally. Syndication likewise is more dependent on number of episodes than when they air. Placing Nikita anywhere else would be either a sign that Mark Pedowitz is making decisions based on personal taste, much like Dawn Ostroff was rightly slammed for, or means they are giving up on making the CW successful. It would be a huge opportunity cost for the network.
ReplyDeleteDo you think HoD and TSC will get a 13 episode pickup simply because they are trying to cut down on the number of repeats? Since neither are anywhere near syndication this would seem like a big gamble for the CW.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing TSC had going for it was Ringer. It was also supposed to take the CW to the next level, maybe even more than TSC. Considering both of these shows had more marketing than any others at the beginning, I'm hoping the CW changes strategy.
ReplyDeleteUnless the CW thinks it could have a Grimm situation, I would doubt any new show goes on Friday.
ReplyDeleteThe CW needs to do something radical. Picking up 6 pilots would be radical. Right now, if they renew shows getting 0.5 and 0.4 they are consigning the CW to a slow death. No way affiliates will resign their contracts in 2016 if the numbers remain so low. With 6 new shows, yes you are taking the chance that your netlet bombs before 2016 but you are also increasing the odds that something will hit at least VD big. They are in the perfect place to chance it right now due to the Netflix money. I for one hope Pedowitz makes some huge moves with the next CW season.
ReplyDeleteI think that's the reason why we will see an unprecedented number of new shows on the CW next year. They simply cannot exist as a netlet with advertising numbers as low as they are going to be next year. Yes, they are living off Netflix this year but that won't be sustainable for very long. Also Netflix, marketing, international sales, and even syndication do not help CW affiliates and even more than worrying about making fans happy, they have to make the affiliates happier next year than they are this year. Without the affiliates, there will be no one left to air the CW in 2016.
ReplyDeleteDo you have statistics to show Nikita is the third best seller? I have been trying to get valid information on Nikita for awhile but I haven't seen any hard numbers to show how well it does internationally compared to other CW shows or even anything to prove it has high DVD or merchandising numbers. It would go a long way for me to understand why they would renew it if I had the hard data.
ReplyDeleteWell we will find that out next week. If they don't switch places they will again be left to fend for themselves and it'll be even uglier than this season.
ReplyDeleteSPN has never been on a 8pm timeslot so I've always wondered if there wasn't so kind of legal issues concerning its most gory episodes. Don't really know how it works here in the US but I guess 8pm has to be light in the bloody category ?
"no show can do better than Nikita can do on fridays."
ReplyDeleteHuh, do you have proof of that ?
Last year Smallville performed very decently on Friday night with SPN. Its ratings were 3 times those of Nikita. Not a surprise since it was a cult show in its last season, but aside from Nikita, do you have evidence that no show on the CW can do better than 0.4/0.5 Fridays at 8pm ?
HOW CAN YOU DO THIS AGAIN!!!!!!! I already lost Life Unexpected......for fugg sakes CW Im going to have to seek my shows elsewhere and stop tuning in getting hooked only to get screwed in the end.
ReplyDeleteI watched life unexpected after it was already over and man i really loved that show!
ReplyDeleteFUCK IT OFF! keep Nikita, The Secret Circle and Ringer.
ReplyDeleteStupidnatural has gone on along enough, dont pull another smallville and drag the dead horse out for another 5 years!
Thank God you're not in charge of anything.
ReplyDeleteI wish Gossip Girl would get a full season omggg please :(
ReplyDeleteGG might now have great ratings at the moment, but it is one of the top watched shows on itunes, has the most famous cast out of all the shows, makes so much money in advertising, is DVR'd a lot and has really high DVD sales. It's the CW's classic show I don't know why they would want to cancel it. Why does everything good have to come to an end ?:( It's all because of dair. if it wasn't for dair the ratings would be high and gossip girl would get a full season next year...... so glad safrans gone now maybe the new producer will change things for the show? Here's hoping
The thing about The Secret Circle is that is should have been bigger.
Seriously? I was most hopeful for Cult so that's disappointing.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I'm surprised about Ringer, but Secret Circle has been a lot better the last few months. Too bad if this turns out to be true
