She doesn't want the show to end, but is hopeful the fan-favorite series will find a home on TBS if Courteney Cox and the gang do get the boot.
And it's safe to say that Philipps is no fan of how ABC has treated Cougar Town.
"It has not been fun to feel like the ugly stepsister of the network," Philipps told us today at Paul Frank's Mommy & Me celebration at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
"They moved us around, they took us off the air for months," she continued. "I do feel a little disappointed in how they've treated the show. If TBS is willing to launch the show in a real great way and we would actually have like billboards and commercials, that would be really cool."
Philipps says she's "really excited about the possibility" of switching networks. "I feel like if it really happens it's kind of going to be like best case scenario for all of us," she said.
Hopefully the rest of the cast is as gung-ho about the move as Philipps is. "The terms of the matter are we don't have a choice," she laughed. "Gung-ho or not, get on the train!"
A rep for ABC declined to comment for this story.

Whoa! Here's hoping the deal for TBS does happen soon, because it seems like they will treat the show better.

ReplyDeleteA lot of shows get treated that way. But in the end it boils down to ratings, doesn't it? I am not aware of what was done to the show to merit this outburst, but the network will have a certain expectation for the ratings and when that is not met, I am guessing they move it around to see where it fits best. And this time, the placed as a mid-season show. A better understanding of the network's needs and intentions will avoid such misunderstandings in the future.

a professional actress and she should know that a show will be treated
according to it’s ratings. I find her behavior to be very unprofessional. She
is, after all, badmouthing the network that has kept her show on the air for
the last few years. Even with the hiatus and lack of promotional material, that
is more than other good shows were granted and that is the way this business
works. She should act like a pro and be more diplomatic about it.
Saying she was "blasting" the show seems to be an exaggeration... She could have been slightly more professional about her disappointments with ABC, but not much.
