I don't presume to know how Stana feels, but speaking on behalf of the somewhat-shy, there is a HUGE difference between talking to just a few people in private (with time for out-takes), and addressing a huge audience, live, along with a whole pile colleagues who will also be watching and listening... From the Paley Fest video, I thought Stana was as lovely as ever, but those are just the sorts of circumstances that would bring out shyness and nervousness in me, full force!
If you only knew how shy i use to be,to this day i could never stand in front of an audience an address them..But as i got older little by little it just happened,i wasn't shy anymore.I do understand how painful it actually is.With the situation for her that night i thought would have been great, she was with the people that she spends 16 hours a day with, she knows them, they would have her back, and its not that she had to answer or even speak of personal things, just about the show..I just thought it was a lost opportunity for her,for the fans..btw,Stana was drop dead gorgeous that night, class act in my book! :)
(Oddly, for me a crowd of strangers is less worrying than people I know - especially people I know professionally. With people I know, their opinions matter so much more, any comfort that ought to come from familiar faces gets trumped. So much for rationality! But yes,it has gotten a little better over the years. Glad to hear you got yours kicked!)
One of the things i learned is that my opinion matters as much as theirs, and believe me once you believe that its smooth sailing from there! Honestly! I feel/felt the same way you do,my family and friends opinion of me mean a great deal to me,but i realized they feel the same way..Plus i think as you get older you believe in yourself more, you learn your likes, dislikes and things just change, and the best part you speak up,loud and clear! I'll tell you its liberating. :)
Here we go, all the Stana crazies come out of the wood work to evangelize on the sheer perfection that is she. She is great as Beckett but she isn't the living embodiment of perfection you crazies spout. stop embarrassing yourselves. She needs to kick the shy act too, she was shown up at paley and several regular people around me in the audience were utterly frustrated with her unwillingness to engage. if she is so shy, she is in the wrong profession. no wonder Fillion takes the bulk of publicity work for the show. it seems he has no choice because his costar is apparently incapable of anything like an answer when faced with more that two people. at least he is charming enough to make you forget she really isn't.but its unfair to him. you all complain that you want her to have equal footing and that Fillion gets all the interviews etc ask yourself why!
