“In terms of storytelling, we felt like we were dangerously close to trying the audience’s patience – and we were starting to get impatient ourselves. We want to move on to new territory,” series creator Andrew W. Marlowe tells TVLine. “We feel like we wrung everything out of them not being in a relationship, so it’s time to put them in a relationship and in more, different fun.”
Fun however does not necessarily mean easy. “Relationships are tough, especially when the two people are fundamentally different people,” the show boss notes. “But I think it’s going to be fun tough – like when Sam and Diane got together on Cheers.”

Could have done without the comparison to Sam/Diane (A couple I absolutely loathe), but yay anyway! Can't stop smiling and I'm so happy they're going to be in a relationship next season.

ReplyDeleteThat's amazing how Andrew Marlowe treats us ! It was definitely worth the wait and I can't wait to find out what he's got in store for us. Season 5 already looks super attractive, we might get that crazy/funny vibe from season 3 on top of the Castle/Beckett new relationship... should be awesome !

ReplyDeleteI am so, so glad that Marlowe is not afraid to explore the next stage! So many writers act as if there's no story left to tell after will they/won't they is answered. No doubt it's /easier/ for a writer to milk UST indefinitely, but it's less real, and he's write: sooner or later the romance and the audience are both worn out. Thank you for taking the high road, and taking on the challenge, Mr. Marlowe!
Yes, thank you! I'm glad I'm not alone in the Diane hate. I vastly preferred Sam/Rebecca. Could not understand what Sam and Frasier saw in Diane.

She was so grating and insufferable. A few funny lines here and there but I definitely prefer the Kirstie Alley years. Always have. And I still have Diane to look forward to in the finale. Yay. /sarcasm
