Such a disappointment. I've been following the development of the show from the day it was announced, and I had really high hopes. As much as I wanted to love it, I kept finding more cons than pros.
Oh, well. Jorge, join Person of Interest as Finch's apprentice. This time, he'll be number one, and you'll be number two.
He has a ton of great shows on his resume. Eventually your going to have a few shows that don't pan out. Plus, he just comes up with the central idea for these shows. He's not responsible for much else that happens along the way.
There's still noone I'd rather have be responsible for the creation of a show and the writing that takes place along the course of the show.
I'm gonna be honest. As much as I love Abrams, and Jorge Garcia, I really tried to get into this show, but I found it just couldn't hold my interest. I got to where I would miss it for the Voice of all things, but I must say I diligently went back and watched via on demand and even caught back up for the finale. But like I said if I'm being honest I just didn't see it going past this season especially in light of events in the finale. Sorry JJ but this one missed the mark. I just hope for the best for Jorge Garcia. I think he should have his own sitcom.
Drat! Another interesting show. It was starting to find it's stride and the mystery was fun. I want to know all the who's and the whys. Between this and the Finder... two shows I'll miss.
Honestly, I think I'll miss seeing Sarah Jones every week more than the actual show itself. I didn't care for her or her character much at first but she grew on me.
Damn. Most of the shows I was excited about this year are no longer alive. :sigh: I guess I should pick better shows. haha. I'll miss Sam neil being on tv. he's a legend. And Jorge is so wonderful. Here's to hoping their next projects pan out.
The first episode was mind-blowing, then something happened... Maybe if they had made Jack Sylvane more of a central character and given Rebecca a romantic interest... lots of maybes. I've watched upto episode 8 and just can't bring myself to carry on...yawn
Bummer. Well the show runners said they would consider releasing short stories online if the show was canceled...clearly that's not the same, but I will take what ever conclusion I can get in whatever form they want to present it as.
No only one show this year. last year was Undercovers, then a few years before he had six degrees..but most of his stuff is successful.
IMO Six Degrees failed because it was on at the same time as Lost and since it's more Felicity-esque, I think it was hard for audiences to appreciate, because Lost was so mysteriously epic in comparison. Bryan Burke and NBC has persuaded Abrams to do Undercovers differently, and by the time Abrams announced they was changing it, NBC cancelled it. Alcatraz unfortunately was up against live competitions, if it wouldn't have been for that, I think it would have done better. But FOX probably couldn't afford to deal with both Fringe and Alcatraz so they made a deal (and Abrams has said before he would choose Fringe over Alcatraz).
But Felicity, Alias, Lost, Fringe, Person of Interest, Star Trek, Mission Impossible 3 & 4, all are considered successful. (Obviously some more than others)
In an article that came out right after the finale, they did say they would consider doing something....
Should the series not get renewed, have you guys discussed ways of answering the mysteries for the audience? For example, the Fringe producers plan to continue the story in comics. Pyne: We haven't planned on anything yet, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. In one way, we feel like the first 13 [episodes] were a marvelous short story and ended where we wanted it to end with tons of questions, but [also] a lot of answers to things that had been bugging people. So, we wrapped some things up, but we deal with others. We play out the Tommy/Rebecca to its natural and tragic conclusion. But if we don't get picked up, yeah, we'll have to figure out some other way. Online short stories maybe. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Alcatraz-Season2-Spoilers-1045375.aspx
Me too! They had so much stuff on the table and they talked about how the story wouldn't have as many COTW things going on...It's not even like they had a full 22 episode season, so it feels really unfair, but I know FOX saved FRINGE, and to do it they probably sacked Alcatraz...
I disagree I think 13 episodes (non cable shows) isn't enough time to see if something is good. I personally think we just saw a prequel to what could have been something great...
I think Mr. Garcia will turn up again in another Abrams work. Obviously I feel different from you. To me I saw something so beautifully familiar on the horizon...the politics, the sleeper agents (project Christmas, cortexiphan subjects, nanites), the female lead being entangled in a family saga that spans across decades of time....I saw all these characters who were unique, abused, and lost, and they just didn't have the time to move to the next phase to develop.
They redid the whole show, because SC was a series regular and supposed to be Rebecca's fiance...and he ended up appearing for only a second in one episode...They reshot a lot of footage too, so I think they changed the story...I think they might have let Jack Sylvane become the love interest, but they had to go through all the crazy, to get to that point. I just think to have a show that from the get go is going to be about so many things, that 13 episodes was too short. -But perhaps they shouldn't have attempted to do the criminal of the week thing, and just have gotten to the story a little quicker.
Yes, i was just talking about Undercovers and now this, the only show i didn't watch and don't recall hearing about is Six Degrees? I know my plate was full of shows, one being Lost. I know he has had more success than failures i was just surprised that 2 of his shows didn't make it in such a short period of time.
Nice! Yes the island demanded.Sorry it was we that demanded it but if something had to be sacrificed then that is the price we have to pay....for our beloved Fringe!
:pouts: le sigh, i enjoyed this show.. i feel like it was really starting to find its rhythm and footing.. the concept and characters were very interesting to me. particularly the doctors and Tiller
I hope they do continue the story in some other format.. short story, comic..
I think the show had potential. But hey, it's Fox, and if they cancelled Firefly (*insert Sheldon Cooper angry at Murdoch face*) the Alcatraz cancellation was more than expected.
I'm not surprised, but I'm a bit sad. I felt it was a great idea but not executed very well. But I do think they were starting to get it right towards the end of the season and would love to have seen them get a second season to prove it. But at the end of the day.. meh.
I probably need to be more ruthless about giving up on TV shows. I tend to watch a small handfull of shows but stick with them faithfully. Last time I made a conscious decision to stop watching a show was about 4 episides away from the finale of Heroes... I still don't know how that finished, and really couldn't care less.
I liked how intensely done the crimes were. It had a dark Fringe-like feel to them (sometimes even darker a la the mines and stuff) and as a procedural, I feel like it might've fit in on CBS or something, but as an Abrams mystery show, it kinda fell flat.

Aw, damn it. I knew this was coming, but I'm still sad.
ReplyDeletereally?
ReplyDeleteThis has not been reported by anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteTrue. It`s done, but it`s not confirmed yet.
ReplyDeleteDamn i knew that was going to happen, but i was still hoping!
ReplyDeleteEW confirmed here: http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/05/09/fox-touch-renewed/ and Deadline was the first to report it.
ReplyDeleteAre they at least going to give us a conclusion!!!
ReplyDeleteI would imagine the last episode was it..
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is extremely disappointing.I hope they continue to tell the story through some other means like they previously stated they would try to do.
ReplyDeleteAhh, I missed that. Too bad I really liked the show.
ReplyDeleteUnsurprising. It didn't really live up to its potential.
ReplyDeleteMost unsurprising news of the year. Adios Alcatraz, you never really were any good...
ReplyDeleteson of b***** come on ! why damn you fox !!
ReplyDeleteUnsurprising and I'm not overly disappointed. Though I would've kept watch had it been renewed.
ReplyDeleteSuch a disappointment. I've been following the development of the show from the day it was announced, and I had really high hopes. As much as I wanted to love it, I kept finding more cons than pros.
ReplyDeleteOh, well. Jorge, join Person of Interest as Finch's apprentice. This time, he'll be number one, and you'll be number two.
Not surprised. The ratings were horrid. I'd still rather have this on the air than Touch.
ReplyDeleteHe has a ton of great shows on his resume. Eventually your going to have a few shows that don't pan out. Plus, he just comes up with the central idea for these shows. He's not responsible for much else that happens along the way.

Thant sucks!

ReplyDeleteI'm disappointed as I enjoyed the show, but with the way the ratings dipped it's not a surprise
ReplyDeleteDrat! Another interesting show. It was starting to find it's stride and the mystery was fun. I want to know all the who's and the whys. Between this and the Finder... two shows I'll miss.
ReplyDeleteTalk about a delayed reaction.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunate but not unforeseen.
Article is now up at The Hollywood Reporter as well.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to love this show. I was primed. Unfortunately, it didn't manage to hold my interest.
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
ReplyDelete...meh, over it.
I had a feeling it would be, but it still really sucks. I really liked this show.
ReplyDeleteSo how soon until we hear that Netflix is considering picking it up lol
ReplyDeleteHa! Nice.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think I'll miss seeing Sarah Jones every week more than the actual show itself. I didn't care for her or her character much at first but she grew on me.
ReplyDeleteI prefer SYFY picking up the series since its suitable for it or better yet have TNT pick it up like they did with Southland
ReplyDeleteNo surprise at all, I mean I enjoyed the show but it never really grabbed my attention or my heart like it should have.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad! I really wanted to see what's next!
ReplyDeleteDarn... :(
ReplyDeleteDamn. Most of the shows I was excited about this year are no longer alive.
ReplyDelete:sigh: I guess I should pick better shows. haha. I'll miss Sam neil being on tv. he's a legend.
And Jorge is so wonderful. Here's to hoping their next projects pan out.
Yeah, Netflix recently considers to pick up all sorts of cancelled shows.
ReplyDeleteThey should just rename their motto into "Give me your tired, your poor"
Sad. Although it started strong, I can not deny that the audience fell to the point where cancellation was to be expected. :(
ReplyDeleteNooooooooooo.. that was a really good show :(
ReplyDeletePlease renew alcatraz!! and delete another show ( glee, good wife, ecc)
ReplyDelete:-( i want more alcatraz!!!
Sad for Jorge, but not particularly bothered. It was a real chore watching to the finale.
ReplyDeletegood news for me, no temptation to watch this crap :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the writers post something about how the show would have continued and answer some questions
ReplyDeleteThats a matter of opinion thou. I rather enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI lost interest after episode five or six and that was it.
ReplyDeleteI gave up after fourth
ReplyDeleteThe first episode was mind-blowing, then something happened... Maybe if they had made Jack Sylvane more of a central character and given Rebecca a romantic interest... lots of maybes. I've watched upto episode 8 and just can't bring myself to carry on...yawn

ReplyDeleteI agree,we needed more than the 13,even The Finder was dumped with only 13 episodes
ReplyDeleteand being moved to another night.

Oh no! Why? i really like the show. SAD :(
ReplyDeleteI also forgot about "What About Brian?" --that's actually the one work I would say I hate it, because the writing just doesn't go anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI liked the show. But I hear the ratings were really bad. FOX is not running the Bad Robot Charity Foundation, so I am just happy Fringe was renewed.
ReplyDeleteSo the shocking season finale turned out to be a series finale.
ReplyDeleteI think the show had potential. But hey, it's Fox, and if they cancelled Firefly (*insert Sheldon Cooper angry at Murdoch face*) the Alcatraz cancellation was more than expected.

ReplyDeleteSuch a good idea. In fact, they should bring in the entire cast of Lost, and POI turns out to be purgatory.
ReplyDeleteI probably need to be more ruthless about giving up on TV shows. I tend to watch a small handfull of shows but stick with them faithfully. Last time I made a conscious decision to stop watching a show was about 4 episides away from the finale of Heroes... I still don't know how that finished, and really couldn't care less.
ReplyDeleteAnd at least Sam Neill got to see a finale, after the terrible fate of Happy Town, ha.
ReplyDeleteI liked how intensely done the crimes were. It had a dark Fringe-like feel to them (sometimes even darker a la the mines and stuff) and as a procedural, I feel like it might've fit in on CBS or something, but as an Abrams mystery show, it kinda fell flat.
