NBC comedy renewal statuses 30 Rock short final season plus Community and more

According to Deadline 30 Rock is in negotiations for a 13 -> 14 episode final season, Whitney's renewal chances are very slim, Up All Night's abit higher, Community 50/50, Parks & Recreation more likely. None of the above shows will get full seasons, all will get short orders if they are even renewed.

  1. I have to say I'm happy about 30 rock, I really thought it was going to be cancelled this season.

  3. Just read that article dont see where it says Community is 50/50

"Meanwhile, veterans Community and Parks And Recreation both are in the running "

  5. GAH. The only one I really care about is Community! Come on, we deserve more than that... it's doing the best it can in a tough time slot.

  6.  Short orders?  Unless they're ordering a ton of scripted programs to fill the extra time I don't see how this makes any sense.  NBC has a lot of programming hours to fill and short orders won't help do that.

Not a smart move on the part of NBC. Killing shows that are thriving creatively (Community, Parks & Recreation) with shortened seasons while continuing to milk a cow that has been dry for several years (The Office). Time to move on from Dunder Mifflin and focus on developing promising up-and-coming shows.

  8. they updated/removed that but it was written a few mins ago

  9. well they are supposedly ordering 6 new comedies

  10. I think it's wise... NBC's are the type of comedies that would benefit from having fewer episodes.
I'll also say I hope Community gets a "Final Season" heads up too.... I think covering the 4 years of Community college is indeed the best route for that show.

  11.  In NBC's situation, expanding The Voice is probably a prudent move for them but the success rate of their new comedies stink.  Even if they ordered six new comedies I can almost guarantee that four of them won't make it past October.  Some of their returning sitcoms should get full seasons simply as insurance.

  12. Community does make sense - I mean honestly, what could they realistically do beyond that? The show comes to a natural end after 4 seasons. I DO wish they'd get a full season pickup, though. It'd be a nice way to go out. That being said, though, I'll take what I can get.

  14. Hey, hey, hey, what the hell's going on?!

30 Rock renewed for a final season (I'd prefer a full season but 13-14 episodes is fine by me) ? YES.

But Community AND Parks & Rec both renewed for SHORT seasons ? OVER MY DEAD BODY.

I want full seasons for both those shows, they deserve it. I'm not saying that just because I'm a fan. NBC is setting itself on fire if they go through with this. Ordering 6 new comedies is nonsense, they should settle with a well-exposed new comedy series that will actually make it past week 3 rather than a whole new lineup that will crash and burn immediately (because there will be flops among the newcomers).

    — We need a full season of Community.

Have you seen the riots in the street and the cars getting burned by goatee-wearing revolutionaries when Community was put on hiatus for 3 months ? It was total anarchy (I'm not exagerating, it's true, I've seen it on Greendale TV, they're well-informed).

    NBC doesn't even know how to do math :25 + 24 + 22 = 71 episodes.Limit for $yndication = 88 episodes.Renewing Community for only 13 episodes = 84 episodes. Comedy Central => not happy.Renewing Community for 17 episodes ? That's the least they can do, but why stop at 17 ? Go to 22 !

    — We need a full season of Parks and Recreation.

NBC's execs are blind if they don't see Parks & Rec is the new The Office, I see that show eventually taking over the 9pm timeslot, maybe in season 6 in September 2013. Let's face it, The Office is way past its prime, holding onto to it like that (ordering a full season of that show and that show only) and leaving Parks and Rec like that is beyond irrelevant.

I'm feeling sorry for NBC if they think short orders for Community and Parks & Rec is the right move to make. I genuinely think anyone else would do a better job at running this network.

  15. I wonder what the chances are of another network trying to save Community if it gets cancelled. Comedy Central just signed that syndication deal, and seems to love saving cancelled shows, maybe they'd be interested.

  16. Short season for Parks and Rec? Hell no!

  17. If I was as eloquent as you I would hope I could express how Community and Parks & Rec deserve full season renewals, but you did a perfect job of it.  We need at least 22 episodes for a season, NBC is blind if they don't realize what a terrible decision it would be to renew it for a shortened order (either of the shows) let alone cancel it.  I honestly don't understand with all the press and the outrage all the fans online how NBC could even be considering this.

And if by some outrageous chance that Community is cancelled, I hope Comedy Central is smart enough to keep it going for a Season 4 because their choice in syndicating it shows their faith/interest in it.

  18. I'll take what I can get, quite honestly.

  19. Short season for Parks and Rec? NO WAY NBC! Dont you dare! What are they even thinking? They already did that once and it SUCKS! They need Parks on the air the full season!

  20. I think given how poorly all these shows rate short order seasons is very generous of NBC. Than again its always good to have shows to fall back on on in case new shows fail which is likely with NBC and also to cut the gaping holes in the schedule. If they run the new shows that are getting early airings with Olympic lead ins in the fall and then the exsisting shows in the spring their would be less repeats.

  21. A shame if Community only gets a short season, but some is better than nothing!

  22. Oh dear lord - all of this is really bad news, I think. (well apart form the fact it's likely that Shitney will get cancelled)
Not even a full season for Parks and Rec? What is wrong with this world?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Parks was treated like shit in S3 and was short ordered to 16 eps, then Community was put on hiatus for its S3. Both shows deserve much more. If The Office ends up getting a full season this will be some kind of bullshit.  I think short seasons are fine for 45min shows but kind of shitty for 20min comedies.
