Awesome, thanks for posting this. It's way too early to make assumptions on Touch. I really do hope Fringe gets renewed though! I wouldn't mind another season of Community, although there are better comedies around IMO.
ReplyDeleteGreat news about Raising Hope.
ReplyDeleteCrappy news about Fringe, Community, and Alcatraz.
It's USA Today so I'm not putting too much stock in this list.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this! I hate seeing some of my favorites (namely Cougar Town and Community) on the bubble, but it's not exactly new territory. On the other hand, the rest of my faves seem to be in the already renewed/likely column, which is great news.
ReplyDeleteRinger, Community, Up All Night and Fringe need to come back!!!
ReplyDeleteRinger is great, Community is fraking funny and Fringe is amazing!!!
I also like UP All Night, so please powers that be, renew it!!!
Sucks but I did expect for Awake to be at the bottom of the list. It feels like a one season show; just because of how the storyline is. They can't drag it forever. So long as it ends wrapped up, I'll be happy whether or not it goes.
ReplyDeleteBut Nikita! Has to be renewed! Too much story left! Please! ONE more season, PLEASE!
All my other shows looking safe/renewed so that's great. :D

Cancel Napoleon Dynamite + Breaking In and RENEW {yup that's right!} RENEW FRINGE, ALCATRAZ and TOUCH!
See! It is soo easy!! ^^;

Parks and rec has to come back! :(
ReplyDeleteThe CW isn't getting any better, this sounds like Dawn Ostroff 2.0: Incompetence Continued.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes from somewhere other than USA Today then i'll cry or Jump for joy!
ReplyDeleteIs this based solely on ratings analysis, or some other stuff we don't know about ? Because putting Hart Of Dixe in "very likely to return" and 90210 in the bubble makes no sense at all. It should be the other way around.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the CW goes, this makes little sense to me. Until Hart of Dixie comes back strong (0.8 or higher) after an extra-long hiatus, there's no way it should be "very likely to return." Also while I agree that Gossip Girl is likely to haunt the CW for at least 13 more episodes, the CW might as well dig their own grave if they renew this show. It couldn't even get 1 million viewers (not demo but actually all viewers) yesterday. If they intend to revamp their image, the very first thing that needs to go is the severely under-performing baby of the former boss who ran the network into the ground. Also given that 90210 is no lower than 4th on the network overall, putting it on the bubble with GG and HoD as likely renewed makes no mathematical sense either. Not to mention that it will be just shy of 100 episodes, which means that asking price of syndication can be higher. Since we all know that the CW is not keeping afloat due to advertiser dollars, syndication is one of the biggest money makers around. I'm wondering where USA Today is getting their info.
ReplyDeleteCheer up about Community at least. It just got syndicated on Comedy Central (I believe) so it is in everyone's interest to air more episodes. They may even get an extended season order if it helps the bottom line in the syndication deal. Also, Community was far more on the bubble before it returned from hiatus. Now with NBC's rapidly tanking ratings, the fact that Community is consistent makes it one of the highest rated comedies for the network.
ReplyDeleteMy take - Ringer is definitely dead. This is as certain in my mind as Vampire Diaries being renewed. Community is far more likely to come back now that it has a syndication deal with cable. Since the real money is in syndication and syndication prices rise the more episodes you have, I'd say Community is sitting pretty for the first time in its history. (No clue about Up All Night.) Fringe is basically the zombie of television these days. By ratings, it rightfully should have been cancelled last year. However, there's some sort of magic/blackmail/incredible deal about to be announced that has protected Fringe this long. Here's hoping it gets a short season wrap up next year.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's just a complete waste of a slot, when the network should be revamping its' lineup. I'm not surprised, there's just no low that the CW won't sink. It's a terrible lead-in, there's barely any repeats and even those don't do so well.
ReplyDelete90210 has gotten higher demos and has been way more stable when compared to Hart of Dixie, it doesn't help when that show also has a bad lead-in in Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeleteI still can't believe they actually cancelled Terra Nova. It was the new LOST and FOX had to ruin it! If they get rid of Alcatraz it will show how stupid this network really is.
ReplyDeleteI know renewing GG won't help the CW's reputation, but what can at this point ?
ReplyDeleteIt's still more profitable for Pedowitz to renew GG for one last season, as it'll most likely benefit from the "last season" headline like OTH did this year, and there'll be more episodes to sell to Hulu and Netflix, rather than putting a new show there that'll most definitely fail. Have you seen their Pilots for next season ? I don't have high hopes for the networks future.
I actually think that The Secret Circle and 90210 have a better shot than Hart of Dixie.
ReplyDeleteI think Arrow will do very well. It will likely get the post-VD slot since it is their most buzz-worthy pilot. My guess is the CW is expecting that show to bloom and then anchor a night next year. The Carrie Diaries, which sounds good on paper as far as bringing in women who watched Sex and the City, has virtually no chance of convincing said women to try a "teeny bopper" network. It will have to grow big by word of mouth and that only happens if it is of better quality than it's sounding like. The Selection will also have to grow word-of-mouth. It seems like a show with an identity crisis. If they make it more Hunger Games and less The Bachelor, it has a fair shot of attracting new viewers too. The simple fact is that the CW needs to grow viewers all around if they are going to survive as a netlet.
ReplyDeleteOne Tree Hill has never sunk as low as Gossip Girl and has been much more relatively stable, whereas Gossip Girl declined at a more rapid rate, especially during the Spring. One Tree Hill was in a much better position than Gossip Girl is at this point, if anything, the network should be begging for another season of One Tree Hill and their average of 0.7 demos compared to Gossip Girl's embarrassing 0.5 (that's if it doesn't sink any lower, which seems unlikely next year as it has constantly dropped on a season to season basis).
ReplyDeleteKeeping Gossip Girl for another season won't help the new shows in any way, it certainly didn't help Hart of Dixie, it's a terrible lead-in.
As for the profits, Gossip Girl is a pretty costly show (the sets/locations, designer clothes, salaries, syndicated shows tend to be more expensive to produce, but other shows actually have the success to back up their renewals, etc.)
The CW had to pretty much desperate leech off of deals with Hulu/Netflix to bail them out of their debts to put them back in the black (at the rate their network is declining, they'll probably need even more help later on).
It's the CW's decision, they've already botched up with America's Next Top Model and the dumb reality shows that they've ordered (there's a show about musical chairs). They can continue to be incompetent, it's their network to continue to ruin, clearly they've learned nothing from Dawn Ostroff's incompetence.
It really depends on how the pilots perform, there was a lot of hype over this year's new shows and look at how badly they turned out.
ReplyDeleteMmm, but at least the new person is a bit more fair when it comes to advertising.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why The Scret Circle is in danger and Hart of Dixie is renewed.Doesn't the first have better ratings?
ReplyDeleteThere's no telling how OTH would have performed this year if it hadn't been announced as the last season. I think GG could rise in ratings next season if it's announced as the last season. It's fanbase is just as devoted as OTH's and it was a lot bigger (for the CW) a few years back.
ReplyDeleteI agree that GG's a terrible lead-in, and Hart Of Dixie didn't deserve that (The CW doesn't seem to give a crap about that show). It had zero promotion and had to actually built itself up from it's lead-in, which it did several times. Only SPN can do that as well, so HoD definitely has something going for it ratings-wise.
I know it's a long shot, but if GG can rise for it's final season, and considering the rest of the shows will drop (how low can they go at some point ?), it could make a decent lead-in to, let's say, The Carrie Diaries, or it could be paired back up with 90210, which doesn't work well with Ringer.
Btw, I'm in no way rooting for GG to be renewed. I don't watch it and I think it's utter crap. But since it's apparently going to be renewed, I have to find other reasons for that besides "the ratings stink but we love it so let's go for another year''. Pedowitz can't be that stupid, I mean this guy likes SPN, so he's at least not as brain dead as Ostroff !
I agree about Arrow. It could bring a lot of those Smallville fans that the CW misses so much. I know I'll watch, because I miss Katie Cassidy.
ReplyDeleteBut apart from that... Cult is a midseason show, which means death on the CW. First Cut is a freaking medical drama, enough said. The Carrie Diaries won't attract its targeted audience like you said. Joey Dakota sounds far too weird, and it's a musical, people are already sick of those.
The Selection maybe yeah, could benefit form a Hunger Games effect.
But let's not forget that Nikita and Ringer HAVE to go, before Gossip Girl.
So it'd be between Gossip Girl and Hart Of Dixie for the last spot. Now just look how the CW treated HoD throughout the season. Kinda like Ostroff did for SPN, but it doesn't have the solid ratings going for it...
I was referring to One Tree Hill's season last year, which was also in a much better position than Gossip Girl last year. Final seasons barely have any impact, it's the final episode(s) that more people potentially tune in. Shows like Chuck, Desperate Housewives, and even One Tree Hill didn't see a huge uptick in viewers/demos even though they were promoted as the final season. If anything, Gossip Girl will continue to drop like it has been on a season to season basis until it eventually evens out/possibly go up in the final episode. Gossip Girl just isn't a very good lead-in in general. Gossip Girl isn't the same as it was back then, this would probably be the best example of a show that went downhill fast in terms of ratings, buzz, demos, quality, etc. Gossip Girl fell hard, it was completely overshadowed by The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars. I wouldn't put much past Mark Pedowitz, while he's not nearly as bad as Ostroff, he's not exactly making things any better. There's already signs of incompetent decision making with the early renewal of America's Next Top Model before it tanked when it came on and it used to be 1 of the network's top shows too. The summer line up doesn't sound promising (1 of them is a show about musical chairs) and the new shows are pretty much unpredictable.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! Yes!
If anyone got that last line...kudos to you.
Well, he is definitely better than Dawn Ostroff, but that's really not saying much considering how badly the network has been botched up during her management.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised at the treatment, it's no wonder the new shows have performed very badly.
ReplyDeleteI don't care about anything else than Fringe.
ReplyDeleteIt has to come back.
In the end I have to believe in HOPE!!!
Oh and thanks for bringing the feature back that lets you see if someone posted a new comment.
ReplyDeleteHart of Dixie has been getting boosted a LOT by it's DVR numbers, as much as 80%, plus it does well on itunes. Probably says to the network that it needs a different day/lead in. The ratings don't represent who is actually watching, so it deserves another season.
ReplyDeleteGossip Girl has a MASSIVE international fanbase. There are literally wordlwide Twitter trends every week related to Gossip Girl. It's insanely popular. The problem is the ratings don't reflect that, and lot's of people watch online, buy on itunes, etc. GG is way, way more popular than it looks, and that's why they keep it around, plus the boss. I'm a fan and what harm will 13 more episodes do? OTH is ending anyways so they'll have that timeslot to fill with a new pilot and Ringer's timeslot to fill too. I doubt they will do more than 2-3 new shows.
ReplyDeleteRinger is nearly dead?
ReplyDelete*SOBBING*
So the 30 Rock which has really dropped in the ratings and critical acclaim and being on its 6th season costs more money has a better chance than Parks and Rec and Community? That really sucks.
ReplyDeleteI need Happy Endings, Fringe, Raising Hope, Parks,, Community, Awake. Cougar Town to be renenwed
Would be happy for Alcatraz and Up All Night as well.
Seeing how lucky I was last season (all the shows I wanted got renewed) I fear I may be watching no broadcast network shows next year at this rate.
Wouldn't pairing Alcatraz with Fringe be a good move for both? Drama/Sci-Fi shows. Would like to see both renewed.
ReplyDelete:( NIKITA!
ReplyDeleteA lot of shows that have performed poorly domestically have done better internationally too.
ReplyDeleteAll you need is a group of people that can get almost anything to trend on Twitter.
It only makes a smaller portion of the profit from iTunes than what it does from the advertisers.
It won't do any more harm than what the CW's poor decision making has already done to the network itself.
Yes. I just think USA Today isn't the most accurate source for this.
ReplyDeleteAll the shows I watch is looking safe...except Fringe. And I really really need Fringe to be renewed. I cannot imagen TV without it.
ReplyDeleteI would say 90210 is more safe than HOD.
ReplyDeleteHOD, Nikita and TSC are bubble shows
Ringer is dead
All the scources are pretty much close with their predictions so far this season with one or two variants.
I guess it all comes down to how many pilots get picked up, hopefully at least 4 of the 8, more would be a long shot but a bonus.
That's not really fair as all the decisions relating to this season; on pilots, cancellations/ renewals, what got full seasons etc, were made by Dawn O before she left. We haven't yet seen how Mark P will do.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I find these predictions to be fairly accurate overall but there are some that I just don't know about. I guess that we will see next month...
ReplyDeleteGod! SPN is safe!! I hope they return it to Thrusday! Friday is so terrible! (but it still has a stable rating as the #2 (or #3) show on CW :) )
ReplyDeleteI thought 30 Rock was in more danger, though I hope it gets renewed.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for something a little more encouraging about Fringe - still, at least it's not canceled.
ReplyDeleteIf they were going to all this trouble, why not just list the ones that have been renewed and cancelled? The status of many of these are already known. Really this was useless.
ReplyDeleteSupernaturaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal :D
ReplyDeleteI have many friends older than 50 that watch shows on CW, so PLEASE stop calling it a "teeny bopper" network. I watch more shows on CW than any other network, SPN, TVD, HoD, Nikita, Ringer, but since we do not count in the ratings we are NOTHING. But believe me we have more disposable income than younger people that are paying for houses, cars and kids. Just saying. ;)
ReplyDeleteI will try Arrow, but would have been a fan before it even airs if Justin Hartley was Arrow.
ReplyDeleteI just want a definite yes for Supernatural!
ReplyDeleteAwake will be canceled???????????????????????? What????????????????? This show is awesome. And fringe too? What???? .................................
ReplyDeleteActually, we've already got a taste of what Mark Pedowitz has already done. America's Next Top Model was renewed and it pretty much tanked like the rest of the low performing shows, the summer reality shows aren't promising (1 of them is about musical chairs), and Gossip Girl is probably going to get another season. Like I said before, it seems more and more likely that he's following in Dawn Ostroff's footsteps, only he's not nearly as bad as her.
ReplyDeleteWe're current on the status of a lot of these shows because we regularly visit a TV website. USA Today publishes to a mainstream audience who are probably clueless as to the status of at least 90% of these shows.
ReplyDeleteFOX needs to get FRINGE renewed TODAY!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh it's a shame about Ringer I was hoping for it to get renewed
ReplyDeleteThey NEED to renew Alcatraz! It's a great concept. FOX would be fools to let it go.
ReplyDeleteyayy hart of dixie!!
ReplyDeleteReally hope Private Practice and Cougar town get renewed! The rest of my shows are pretty safe :)
ReplyDeleteI just love Touch, it is nearly up there with Castle for me. My #1 = Supernatural, #2 = Castle (pretty far down from SPN but a big fave mostly due to Nathan), #3 = Touch. It has just started, but nearly every episode has been a beautiful, complex weaving of stories that always makes me smile at the end (so far).
ReplyDeleteThe only show I'm concerned about:
ReplyDeleteFRINGE.......... please .......... Please....... PLEASE........ P L E A S E............................
Don't take Peter Olivia Walter Astrid Lincoln or Broyles away from me (us) ! ! ! ! ! !
What they have placed gossip girl and Hart of dixie above TSC. What absolute nonsense.
ReplyDeleteYay so far for everything except "Bent". I really like that show. I hope NBC renews it. I think it's far better than "Whitney". (No offense to those who love "Whitney".)
ReplyDeleteFringe and Cougar Town - fingers crossed!!
ReplyDeleteIdk about HoD being certain for renewal. 90210 and Secret Circle are definite renewals.
ReplyDeletei am sorry about the finder ,awake and gifted man they are good shows, nikita has to be renew
ReplyDeleteI put "teeny bopper" in quotes because that is its reputation for good or evil. People who don't watch things on the CW automatically assume that its all focused on teen girls. I however am a diehard Supernatural fan and I am loving Nikita so like you, I know that perception can be way way off.
ReplyDeleteArrow has a secret weapon in David Nutter. While I can't say how the show will do overall (although I think it has a better chance at success than anything else on the CW), I'd lay bets that the pilot is good.
ReplyDeleteIf we were strictly talking demo vs cost per episode, I would argue that Gossip Girl was right at Nikita level. Still I think the CW has already made up its mind about Gossip Girl and so nothing that happens for the rest of the season is going to change things. Quite the shame.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't rule out a midseason show quite yet though. The CW doesn't do it enough to make a judgment. I think it will depend on how much buzz they can get going. It may well be that if the debut it when other networks are in reruns, it will get a fair chance.
You forgot to add that First Cut is a freaking medical drama where the main character still feels like the high school loser she was and is still being picked on at her new job by her high school's mean girl. Compared to the word we're getting about this lame idea of a script, I'd take a normal freaking medical drama any day, even though I typically hate these.
Twitter, online polls, GetGlue, FaceBook, Tumblr, etc. mean absolutely nothing when it comes to renewals. The only way the international fan base matters renewal-wise is if they buy the DVDs in mass quantities or the WB is making insane amounts of money in broadcasting licenses abroad. Watching online actually decreases the chance that a show will be renewed. In the end, the only reason why Gossip Girl should be renewed is if it makes more money than a new show would potentially make. GG obviously is not going to do that with ad revenue like they did last year, so they better have one heck of a syndication deal in the works.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I'm still betting it gets a 13 episode final season send off.
Not for the W25-34 demo, for which GG's is twice as big as Nikita's. I think that's always been the most important number for GG, otherwise it wouldn't have gottent such a high ad rate for this season.
ReplyDeleteAs for First Cut, the high school things makes it worse for me, lol ! But I think the cast looks pretty good.
Nikita needs to be renewed. If that means cancelling 90210, Ringer, Gossip Girl, Heart Of Dixie or even The Secret Circle, so be it. Cancel it all, but don't ever touch in Nikita. It's just too good to be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteringer may be rewenewd still to see 90210 has been in that spot for 4 season's now so hopying plus the CW said there happy with the storylines and the twits so ....
ReplyDeleteApart from Fringe and Alcatraz, all the shows I watch are in the bottom category...
ReplyDeleteUSA Today is only throwing their hat in the ring, just best-guess speculating on what shows are roughly in the same three categories as every other TV site is doing. There's no indication that "this article" is straight from the horses' (networks') mouths. I haven't looked hard at any other "data" USA Today supplied except for The CW and it's nearly identical to the TVLine.com renew/cancel article with the exception that it has Ringer listed as "could go either way" (same "rating" as 90210) rather than "A long shot" but TVLine hasn't "updated" The CW "ratings" for the last few weeks. TVLine also says that HoD is "a safe bet" even though it hasn't aired new episodes for weeks.
ReplyDeleteRinger gets boosted by 75-80% with DVR and actually ranks higher on CW's itunes best sellers list. So, Hart isnt doing that great in these arenas. Its only doing better than Nikita in these places
ReplyDeleteUSA Today is making predictions like many other tv publications. We shouldn't take these "opinions" as factual
ReplyDeleteI think that Pan Am will be on for another season. I think that Ringer will be on for another season. However, I think that the show will make some changes in the fall. I still think it would be wonderful if Bridget/Siobhan was really Buffy.
ReplyDeleteOn Ringer Bridget/Siobhan is shown as drowing in the bathtub. On Buffy she was drowned in a pool of water and Xander had to bring her back to life. Are the flashbacks from both shows really trying to tell us that Bridget/Siobhan is really Buffy. Didn't she have a stake on the previous episode?
ReplyDeleteDear CW:
ReplyDeleteOn the bubble between renewal and cancellation:
Nikita
90210
The Secret Circle
I really love to watch 90210 and The Secret Circle. 90210 is my no.1 favorite CW show then comes The Secret Circle. I never missed an episode of 90210. I always watched it on Tuesday even if I have to work and missed the time I set up my VCR to record and I watched it once I get home from work same as The Secret Circle. You can cancelled Nikita I am not interested in watching that never ever tried once. I think 90210 and The Secret Circle is even more interesting than Hart of Dixie. I watched one episode of Hart of Dixie and I didn't like it. I also like the Vampire Diaries but I don't really care for Gossip Girl. Although I like to watch the Ringer also but it is way too complicated between Siobhan and Bridget I think one season is enough for the sisters. I am always a Beverly Hills 90210 fan so I love watching 90210 and I think it is interesting same as The Secret Circle. The Secret Circle is just like Vampire Diaries so interesting. I think worth watching on CW is 90210, The Secret Circle, and The Vampire Diaries.
On the bubble between renewal and cancellation:
ReplyDeleteNikita
90210
The Secret Circle
I'm hoping for Nikita to be renewed, I wish it could get a third season it is just awesome. I don't care about 90210 I stopped watching around season 3 it was completely pointless, I realized a bit too late, though unfortunately I think it'll be renewed. TSC is just messed up, the writing is as bad as the acting. I thought it would be like TVD because of Williamson but I was wrong, huge disappointment I have to say, hoping for cancellation here.
Agree I think Secret Circle is way better than Hart of Dixie. after 1 episode of Hart of Dixie I told myself I am not going to waste my time and watch HOD. worth watching Secret Circle.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. The Secret Circle and 90210 is worth watching and is my favorite CW shows. My CW shows I don't miss one episode and always watch it live is The Secret Circle and 90210. I also watch Ringer and TVD but not as much as TSC and 90210.
ReplyDeleteI don't say Hart of Dixie is bad.I watch both shows. But,obviously, renovations depend on ratings and TSC is above HOD.
ReplyDeleteHoping for Alcatraz and Praying for the Finder, I love both shows
ReplyDelete
