-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox got past the “hump” in winning overnight fashion, with more than double the household rating of second-place CBS (which featured encore telecasts of Criminal Minds and CSI). But an 11.4 rating/18 share for American Idol from 8-10 p.m., still a winning performance, dipped by 22 percent from a one-hour edition on the year-ago evening (14.6/22 on 4/27/11). Ryan Seacrest will be returning next season, of course. But what about Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Stephen Tyler? What do you think? http://www.facebook.com/TVMediaInsights

Second-place CBS opened with reliable (but dull) Survivor: One World at a 6.5/11 in the overnights at 8 p.m., which was right on par with the year-ago Redemption Island edition. For Douglas Pucci’s latest review of Survivor, click on the following: http://tinyurl.com/7nbvvxv.

The Eye capped off the evening with aforementioned encore telecasts of Criminal Minds (#2: 4.9/ and CSI (#2: 4.6/ from 9-11 p.m. The upcoming month of May, no doubt, will be predominantly original programming through Memorial Day weekend.

Over at ABC, the positive news for week three of sitcom Don’t Trust The B____ in Apartment 23 (#3: 4.0/ 6 at 9:30 p.m.) was retention out of an encore of lead-in Modern Family (#3: 4.4/ 7 at 9 p.m.) of 91 percent. But that 4.0/ 6 was down by 20 percent from its debut just two weeks earlier (5.0/ 8 on 4/11). And part of that drop, of course, was because Modern Family was not original (lead-in still matters).

At 10 p.m. (and opposite a repeat of CSI), Revenge won the hour with a 5.4/ 9 in the overnights, which was an improvement from the year-ago combination of Happy Endings (3.8/ 6 on 4/27/11) and a repeat of Modern Family (3.3/ 6). Earlier in the evening on ABC were encore telecasts of The Middle (#4: 3.7/ 6) and Suburgatory (#3: 3.3/ 5) from 8-9 p.m.

Elsewhere, NBC’s midweek woes continue. Betty White’s Off Their Rockers remains an improvement from recent entry Whitney at a third-place 4.1/ 7 at 8 p.m. But lead-out sitcom BFF sunk to a 2.0/ 3 at 8:30 p.m. (#4), older-skewing Rock Center With Brian Williams (#4: 2.8/ 4) was not much better at 9 p.m., and veteran Law & Order: SVU (#3: 4.6/ is just plain tired at 10 p.m. Had NBC been in better shape, SVU would have probably been concluding next month.

Over at The CW, a repeat of the pilot episode of Canadian drama The L.A. Complex (#5: 0.6/ 1) equaled its overnight debut performance on Tuesday. And it led into long-in-the-tooth America’s Next Top Model at a 1.1/ 2 at 9 p.m. While Top Model did build from the 8:30 p.m. portion of The L.A. Complex encore by 120 percent, year-to-year it dropped by 42 percent (versus a 1.9/ 3 on 4/27/11).
