-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean overnight sweep for ABC on this third Monday in April with its combination of Dancing With the Stars (12.0 rating/18 share from 8-10 p.m.) and Castle (7.9/14 at 10 p.m.). Comparably, retention for Castle out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars was 64 percent. One year earlier, Dancing With the Stars averaged a 13.8/21 on 4/18/11. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m.: 11.1/18 (#1)
8:30 p.m.: 12.0/18 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 12.4/18 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 12.4/18 (#1)
Although my pick to exit tonight is Gavin DeGraw, don’t be too surprised if Melissa “Half Pint” Gilbert is the one departing.
Over at NBC, young adult favorite The Voice remains a double-digit improvement over year-ago occupants Chuck and The Event with a 6.3/ 9 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:
The Voice (NBC)
8:00 p.m.: 6.0/10 (#2)
8:30 p.m.: 6.2/10 (#2)
9:00 p.m.: 6.4/10 (#3)
9:30 p.m.: 6.3/ 9 (#3)
Personally, I stopped watching The Voice after the auditions. But Nate, our favorite blogger, had this to say about last night’s installment:
“I thought the twist of having both judges eliminate one of their contestants was really dumb and unnecessary. America should be deciding who they want to see each week instead of allowing the judges to pick their favorites to continue in the competition. I don't get how this adds anything to The Voice.”

At 10 p.m., episode No. 11 of Smash on NBC tied with a repeat of Hawaii Five-O on CBS for second with a 4.2/ 7. One year earlier, former short-lived time period occupant Law & Order: Los Angeles averaged a 3.9/ 6.
CBS has lost some steam, of course, opposite Dancing With the Stars and The Voice. But the still solid overnight performances of How I Met Your Mother (#3: 5.3/ 8), 2 Broke Girls (#2: 5.8/ 9), Two and a Half Men (#2: 7.4/11) and Mike & Molly (#2: 6.5/10) proves that three networks can successfully co-exist opposite each other. The aforementioned Hawaii Five-O encore capped off the evening for the Eye net with a 4.2/ 7 at 10 p.m. (#2).
Elsewhere, Fox finished fourth with its combination of dramas Bones (4.9/ and soon-to-conclude House (#4: 4.0/ 6). And The CW aired its low-rated combination of Gossip Girl (#5: 1.0/ 2) and Hart of Dixie (#5: 1.1/ 2), which both should not be returning next season.
