The second season premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones delivered series-high ratings Sunday night.
Thrones returned to 3.9 million viewers. That’s up a massive 74 percent from its series debut last year. It also greatly improves upon the show’s previous all-time high, which was just over 3 million viewers. Including all three Sunday airings, the show delivered 6.3 million viewers. The numbers mean a third season renewal is pretty much guaranteed.
Despite airing on a network with fewer subscribers than its basic cable rivals, HBO’s Thrones stomped the season two premiere of AMC’s The Killing (1.8 million) and the latest episode of Mad Men (2.9 million).

That's crazy... Season 3 here we come!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for higher ratings but this is awesome, too!
ReplyDeleteThis show is nowhere near hyped enough. It is a fantastic story with great actors and intense scenery. It just is one of the best out there to be viewed, and is a shame for anyone to not give it an honest try.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news :D I didn't really have any doubts thou, the show has created so much hype worldwide, word of mouth has meant this show has really taken off :D
ReplyDeleteSky had 521, 900 viewers here for last night, that's 5 times more than the Mad Men premier :O :DD
ReplyDeleteWow, that's quite a lot for Sky :)
ReplyDeleteHi Andy,i'm not sure my email got to you ,but it seems my Notification button is working again thanks,The last remaining problem i have is when i ended last night i had 182,953 in total points when i came on this morning i only had 176,556.Could you please correct the mistake? Thanks Andy :)
ReplyDeleteZOMG WHAAAAAAAT!?!?!? YESSSSSSS.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. I was expecting higher ratings than last season, but we jumped from 3 million to 3.86 million from the season finale. We basically doubled the S1 premiere and we also doubled the nightly cumulative (which was 3 million last season premiere).
Didn't GoT already get picked up for a 3rd AND 4th season?
ReplyDeleteWasn't concerned anyway.
ReplyDeleteNo, there were rumours about they might shoot them back to back in case of a pick-up, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
ReplyDelete*Readies a lantern to throw just in case*
ReplyDelete*Looks for glowing blue eyes*
Yep I agree. I thought anything near 4 was great and over 4 would be incredible.
Impressive indeed!
*Douses lantern after seeing the poster who looks like Cadence is in fact Cadence and not a wight*
Just rumours but I don't think anyone would be surprised if it happens
ReplyDeleteAhh, thanks. Didn't realize they had only been rumors. Though it would take multiple tragedies to derail the show at this point.
ReplyDeleteTechnically they are rumors, but I think when the Irish film board says that Thrones will be filming there for at least 2 more years..... they just might have some insider knowledge! XD
ReplyDeleteI think most of us Thrones fans expect the pick up some time this week officially.
Hahahaha, this was such fantastic news that I couldn't resist commenting. Hi :). I have a review (almost done) to send you before posting!
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered this series several weekends ago when they were doing a marathon. It is so cleverly written I can overlook the 'gratuitous sex and violence' which is what stopped me from watching it from the beginning1
ReplyDeleteGlad you gave it a shot since Think it is one of the better shows on TV...
ReplyDeleteAgree but I don't think they will be shooting s3/4 back to back as rumored. Dan actually stated that they can't physically do 12 episode seasons, so doing 20 is definitely not possible. :(
ReplyDeleteI read something about that too...
ReplyDeleteThey may not film Season 3 and 4 back-to-back, but I think they will get a two year renewal.
Personally I don't really care I guess. Filming both season at once makes some sense monetarily and guarantees 2 more seasons (at least), but I like the idea of spreading out the casting and filming rumors over 2 years instead of packing them into one year....
Great news! I´m so happy that a lot of people are watching it live (I wish I could).
ReplyDeleteNot surprising. This just continues the steady upward ratings trend from season one which was impressive all by itself.
ReplyDeleteIt was a teriffic episode and deserved these ratings.
ReplyDeleteAwesome news :D, totally expected, as some many people have catch up on season 1 sense it finished.
ReplyDeleteI think the main reason was to try and get as much work done before Bran is taller than Hodor :P
ReplyDeleteSeriously!! XD
ReplyDeleteIn the next year or two Bran's feet will be dragging on the ground if he continues to be carried on Hodor's back! XD
Plus he will weigh more too... poor Hodor/ Kristian Nairn! I sense Hodor may say a new word by Season 5 or 6. Hernia... or maybe hodor-ia?
Impressive! Totally expected, but still very happy news :D
ReplyDeleteIt's HBO, they don't care bout no ratings. This will have all the seasons it needs, even if 10 people were watching it
ReplyDeleteHaha :)
ReplyDeleteThey may not need ratings too much, but they need subscriptions.
