CBS’ drama pilot Quean has been killed after a law suit filed by Sony claiming it was ripping off The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It centers on an edgy and independent Millennial hacker girl who teams up with an Oakland police detective to solve crimes.
This is of course good news to CBS' bubble shows and other pilots. CBS now only has 7 drama pilots in consideration.

You'd think they would have at least switched the genders...
ReplyDeleteHaha, that does sound like a complete rip off of TGWTDT
ReplyDeleteHaha did they even try to make it any different other than making it American?
ReplyDeleteI can see why they would think it was a rip off of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo but then again, it's a really, really common trope. [Character with special skill] consults with police to solve crime. Fake psychics, writers, 'consulting detectives', comic book writers with expert knowledge of Alcatraz, etc. Computer hackers are one of the most common chracters brought in.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting to see if that was going to happen.
ReplyDeleteThe script was actually rewritten and most of the characters and settings were completely changed from the original idea but, since the main character was still a "hacker," their lawyers advised killing the project anyway.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how the Hunger games camp feels about the CW pilot that seems to be borrowing elements from the HG books as well ( I think the show is called "The Selection")
ReplyDeleteAhh I see, I mean I don't think it would have worked anyway, hacking can come across as pretty cheesy when used in TV/Movies
ReplyDeletetoo bad, I was excited for this.. some1 gotta make TGWTDT 4 tv ..
ReplyDeletei hope the same hapenns with the "american Sherlock".
ReplyDeletei would love that
