Hawaii Five-0 - James Could Be Returning to Hawaii Soon!

James Caan could soon be saying “aloha” to more episodes of “Hawaii Five-0.”

The “Godfather” star, now 71, made a surprise appearance Monday night on the CBS action drama, guest starring opposite his oldest son, Scott.

“I did it just to be with my kid,” he tells The Post. “He is out there in Hawaii all the time, and I really miss him.”

“[The show’s producers] know that, and they are probably going to want me to do some more with them — and, to be honest with you, I probably would do it just to hang around with him.

“We still talk all the time,” Caan says. “He calls me with his problems. I call him with my problems. We talk about absolutely everything — whether it is love life or health. That’s what made it so special and great."

The episode — in which Caan played a retired NYPD bomb-squad detective living on his boat — marked the first time father and son have acted together on TV. (They appeared together in a 2009 indie movie, “Mercy,” that Scott wrote and produced.)

The show approached him “a few months ago and I said, ‘I will do it, but I don’t want to do that procedural s - - t. I wanted something a little different. So I am this old-time cop and I just don’t get along with anybody, especially Scott.”

Cann says he took a steep pay cut for the job — but the money was never important.

“Scott got outraged by the offer,” he says. “But I was like, ‘Let them buy me a watch. Make it a present so that it is clear that I am doing it because I want to hang out with you.’ ”

Caan is awaiting word on a rodeo series being developed by Scott and “Entourage” producer Doug Ellin for HBO.

“My wife tells me: ‘You have got to go work,’ ” he says. “I think she wants a new car.

“But I said to her, ‘I don’t want to fizzle out, honey. I want to crash and burn.’
