Thanks to FanGirl for the heads up.
TVLINE | Dan and Blair go public with their romance in “Salon of the Dead” on April 16. What obstacles do they face beyond that?
The obstacles are always going to be that Dan knows just how big of a presence Chuck has been in Blair’s life. And that’s something Blair works very hard to put Dan at ease about, but I think the harder she works at putting Dan at ease about that the more uneasy he feels. And, obviously, their relationship is hard for everybody around them because Serena was and maybe still is in love with Dan. And Chuck has his issues that he’s dealing with. And whenever Chuck is dealing with issues, Blair often wants to help.
TVLINE | Is Louis no longer a factor?
He is no longer a factor.
TVLINE | So Georgina takes care of that situation?
The situation will be taken care of. I’m not sure it’s ultimately Georgina who takes care of it.
TVLINE | If Ivy loved having a family so much, why is she alienating the Van der Woodsens? What’s her endgame?
She definitely still wants to be a part of the family. But she’s upset because no matter what she has tried to do they don’t except her. So, at this point, she feels like she has nothing left to prove because they’re not going to accept her anyway, so she’s just going to look out for herself.
TVLINE | Is Serena the new Gossip Girl?
I don’t want to say because Monday’s episode is very much about that struggle for Serena. But it’s like the Ring and Frodo. That’s how we looked at that story.
TVLINE | It feels like the storyline is building to you revealing the identity of the real Gossip Girl. Is it?
This storyline is something we did not tread lightly about. We knew if we were going to open this door we had to see it through. And we will be seeing it through.
TVLINE | So we will find out who Gossip Girl is this season?
I’m not going to comment on that. But we are seeing the story through.

I hope Gossip Girl doesn't turn Ivy into a villain. That would suck.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Was about time to find out who Gossip Girl really is...
ReplyDeleteSo excited for the finale after reading this! I guess the van der Woodsen's paternity drama will play out then, and probably then some...
ReplyDeleteI know right? I mean, she's practically innocent compared to the stuff most of them have done. But I don't think they will though, I think they just have to make it look that way for now to keep some mystery around her character....
ReplyDeleteWell we don't know that we really will....
ReplyDeleteWhen Ivy decided to kick Lily and Rufus out I interpreted the behavior as not unlike a child acting out looking for attention. I figured that Ivy was trying to force those two to stop dismissing and ignoring her. What worries me is that the "looking out for herself" comment in the article points to more selfish motives.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to how Ivy's story line progresses. I'm totally over the love triangle nonsense at this point - I'm pretty sure they should all just end up alone.
ReplyDeleteI see they're trying to demonize Ivy some more and are probably going to turn her into yet another predictable, over the top, cartoonish villain on Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the cliffhangers and the 'dropping the bomb' doesn't sound very promising, it sounds like more predictable OMG moments that are going to end up disappointing like that whole 100th episode crap.
ReplyDeleteThe question is will it even matter or change anything by the time/if they ever reveal it? Gossip Girl has turned into a consequential plot device used to create more contrived drama.
ReplyDeleteI feel like a lot of people are also looking forward to Ivy's storyline as well, although Chair and Dair get the most attention because that's all that anyone asks about. I'm over all of the romantic entanglements as well.
ReplyDeleteThe first answer says that Chuck and Blar will be a couple again, right? I mean, Blair will help Chuck with his issue and she will figure out that she's still in love with him. It sucks!! I DON'T SUPPORT THEM TOGETHER ANYMORE!
ReplyDeletei've just read 'the ring and frodo' in a GG interview?? lmao don't know why, i'm laughing xDDD excited for dair,ivy/real charlie and all the stuff!
ReplyDeleteIdk, he also said he doesn't know who is end game. It just seems like they're just making stuff up and nothing is planned, they just throw storylines out there and trying to make it stick.
ReplyDelete"People always talk about endgames, but the thing is, if you have have
a firm ending set in stone, everything you write runs into that wall,"
Safran said. "It has to be done with a shifting, malleable approach."Read more: http://www.tvfanatic.com/2012/03/gossip-girl-exclusive-joshua-safran-on-major-season-finale-cliff/#ixzz1qYnAG1uh.Yeah, he's just making stuff up.
He shouldn't have compared it to the Lord of the Rings.
ReplyDeleteWhy not?
ReplyDeleteNah, I think it's too easy to try to compare them to the old characters, kinda like when new pop stars rise to fame, people have to compare them to pop stars who came before them, you know?
ReplyDeleteI asked a question to the GG Writers on twitter asking how long they planned for William to be Lola's biological father and they said they had planned it before we met Ivy in season 4...
ReplyDeleteBecause it's incomparable, in Lord of the Rings, it was an actual journey to destroy the ring.
ReplyDeleteIn Gossip Girl, Gossip Girl herself has become inconsequential since Season 2 and has only been brought up as a contrived plot device like that terribly pointless Georgina reveal.
I don't think they planned anything, they're just making things up and recycling repetitive storylines. They're just hyping it up like they did with the 100th episode and that turned out to be a disappointing mess.
ReplyDeleteIt's because of the contrived relationship drama that pretty much wrecked the show, it's become stale and repetitive.
ReplyDeleteI agree about revealing GG's identity. Does anybody actually care at this point? I thought the whole thing was just a framing device to tell the stories, and that's all I need it to be. Whatever revelation they come up won't live up to the hype - and nor should it.
ReplyDeleteThe whole point of GG IS the hype, and the mystery, and frankly I feel that any one identity means fuck all when the reality is that Gossip Girl is many. It's you and me, and everybody who participates in it. It's the culture of surveillance, and when the show is good, GG is a great tool for exploring what said surveillance does to the people being watched. The identity of the person running the site doesn't matter at all.
I hate that Ivy threw Rufus and Lily out of their own house!
ReplyDeletewell i don't mind the comparison, but it felt weird xDDD
ReplyDeleteYour commentary on Gossip Girl is perfection. I applaud it. I think the writers look at it the same way, so I don't think they'd reveal it, for all the reasons you said. But...yo never know with them.
ReplyDeleteWell, he's just using it to compare it to Serena's struggle as to whether to use Gossip Girl or to not. He's describing her tempation with that. I think in that sense it's okay to compare it, because he's not saying GG and Lord og the Rings are even similar at all, he's just giving an example. Besides, maybe he's a fan of Lord of the Rings XD
ReplyDeleteI know that they're completely different. It's just that Gossip Girl herself is barely relevant anymore except being used as a plot device to stir up contrived drama. In The Lord of the Rings, that was the whole purpose of the journey, as it was a saving the world situation.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice analysis, it sounds a lot better than what the show actually gives us. That would be more relevant in the 1st 2 or so season, now Gossip Girl is just a plot device used to create unnecessary drama/storylines.
ReplyDeleteHeh, well thank you. It IS hard to say where the writers will go with this... they've demonstrated a propensity to throw out a lot of the things they've already established in pursuit of shiny OMG moments. But, I like to be optimistic.
