Thanks to tvmonkey for the heads up.
A week after her mom won her third Oscar, Mamie Gummer has landed her first pilot starring role. Gummer, daughter of acting great Meryl Streep, has been cast as the lead in the CW’s Jennie Snyder Urman medical drama pilot aka First Cut.

She was wonderful in last week's The Good Wife.
ReplyDeleteI wonder whats up with Shelter its the only CW pilot with no casting news whatsoever
ReplyDeleteFrom one failed doctor series to another soon to be failed series?
ReplyDeleteShe's so great in her recurring role on The Good Wife. Truly excellent. Still didn't make me go watch Off the Map though. Don't think it will get me to watch this either. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteWow i didn't realize that was her mom.
ReplyDeleteOff The Map may not have caught on but it was definitely better than Private Practice and their ratings were similar for most of its run. More than that, Mamie Gummer's character was probably the best on the show. Unfortunately, on the CW the trend is that the older the cast is the worse the ratings are. This being a medical drama, the entire cast will consist of adults so I have my doubts this will even be ordered to series.
ReplyDeleteI thought the pilot of Off the Map was a mess honestly - A very pretty mess! I loved the scenery and tried to watch more, but just thought it was bad. I did watch Private Practice for a bit and never really loved it, but I thought it was a better done show personally. Maybe it was just bias since I liked a number of the actors on PP.
ReplyDeleteI agree about your CW theory though. I know they say they want to change or evolve their image as a network so I can see them greenlighting the pilot possibly. Even if it gets past the pilot stage and picked up I think having older actors is such a burden on CW that it is likely to be cancelled. I will reserve judgement until I watch it though... assuming it gets picked up even!
The CW is going to need a real breakthrough show to start attracting adults to the network. They probably thought they had that with Sarah Michelle Gellar's Ringer but we know how that turned out.
ReplyDeleteI think that and Hart of Dixie were their first forays into the "more adult" world, but I think keeping their same formula with older actors kept Ringer feeling like most of their other teen dramas. To me at least.
ReplyDeleteI would love the CW to have a breakthrough series based on a more adult premise with older actors! I think it would be good for TV and seeing as the CW likes serialized shows.... I would probably like the series too! XD
I agree with you. The CW could become a good place for serialized adult dramas if they can find a way to lure more adults to the network. I guess, at this point, I'm just glad that the performance of shows like Ringer, Hart of Dixie and Nikita haven't scared The CW away from adult drama, whether it be light drama, dark drama, or action based.
ReplyDeleteSo true!
ReplyDeleteAnd I guess I forgot Nikita was their first attempt maybe.. not HoD and Ringer...
Hmmm I sense a pattern. Aren't those the three lowest rated shows? I'd laugh, but it saddens me!
Aw man! Don't make want to watch this one.... I don't wanna!!!
ReplyDeleteMost of the the casting so far, has me changing my mind about this project.
