Glee -3.12 - The Spanish Teacher - Review

RICKY MARTIN - that's what this weeks glee was all about.... Okay not really but with what this week focused on it is much better to just believe that. If you've been a fan of Glee from the very beginning then as a fan you become very aware who wrote what episode without having to read the credits. This is especially true when it comes to Ian Brennan one of the executive producers as well as co-creator. The truth is Ian is the one who originally came up with the concept of Glee but in the form of a movie. This movie would have involved darker themes and not at all like then TV show, I guess we can thank Ryan Murphy for something's. This is directly relevant to the theme of the episode.

Lets start:

Mamma who bore Sue?: That is right Sue Sylvester wants to be a mom! Are you scared? You should be, with the potential of this being sweet it turned out creepy and incredibly inappropriate. Sue's first scene opens with her commandeering the glee club boys and asking them for they 'used tissues' grossed out? Yup! Sue more often than not is cartoonish at best but Jane can sell a sweet and touching scene and she proved that with her sister, and yet the writers, Ian, decided to go way to far way to early. Everybody and I mean everybody laughs when Sue brings up being a mom and more than once asked "whose vagina?"

But there was some good moments her verbal take down by Roz Wasington was outstanding partially racist and might have set feminism back a couple years but Nene Leaks knocked it out of the park and if you didn't notice is actually taller than Jane Lynch. There is a sweet moment with Emma where Sue describes the desire to have a child having seen what kind of man Mr. Schue is too his 'kids' and having gone through loosing her sister. This was a wonderful moment for Jane and believable for Sue because her sister was a big part of her life as is Becky.

Will Schuester, I Hate You: okay I don't hate Will but in my mind this reads as Sue's line from Vogue. There has been an interesting turn of events when it comes to Will, that being more and more we see what an unfit teacher he is and kind of a dick. Figgin's informs Will that a student complained about his teaching methods in Spanish class all the while a possibility of tenure is within his grasp. Who Will is and the kind of teacher he can be becomes apparent at the end of the episode until then we had to deal with horrible Latin music, just by him, Latin stereotypes just by him and incredibly petty and rude just by him to Emma. With tenure a possibility Will finds it hard to concentrate on anything but making sure his Spanish is sub- par for his students all while Emma is concentrating on making funny and insightful pamphlets.

Eventually Will gets his head out of his ass and sees the light with a lot of help from Santana who points out that Will is an amazing teacher when it comes to the things he's passionate about like Glee club, Spanish is not. As Will points out he only took the Spanish teaching job because it was the only position available. Santana reminds him where his passion lies and he instead offers the job to David Martinez (Rickey Martin) which actually fit well except Will then decides he will teach History because he watches the history channel. This made no sense because he was just doing what he already admitted to before.

KurtCedesChel?: Yeah thats bad but combining 3 names into one is. There is a great scene with Kurt, Mercedes, and Rachel who turns out are all TwiHards. Mercedes still dealing with who she should choose Sam or her boyfriend, while Rachel states that you just no when you love the right person. This prompts Rachel to admit to her friends that Finn proposed to her. Kurts reaction I'm sure matched the many Finchel haters as well as the general audience. Kurt clearly upset questions Rachel about actually getting married, however I feel it was more angry that Finn didn't speak to him about it first. They both raise questions of Rachel sanity while she retorts back to Kurt, " What would you do if Blaine proposed to you?" and if Kurts face is any indication he probably wouldn't say no either.

This leads to another great scene with Kurt and Finn where he pleads with Finn to be more than the guy who holds Rachel's purse on the red carpet. While Kurt is not wrong I sometimes think that people forget who Rachel is. Yes she is completely driven to perfection and demands it but she is just as passionate about Finn's life as she is her own. She knows that she will have to struggle some in her career to becomes successful and she is reassured knowing that Finn will be by her side because she cannot picture her life without him.
Finn however is still struggling with who he is outside of being Rachel's boyfriend and Kurts brother, the truth is he is not like any of them and while he sees it as a bad thing Kurt reminds him that a good looking football player who can sing and some what dance is just as rare as the talent that he and Rachel posses. It's a great moment for these two and also brings a lot of questions to Finn about his proposal.

Sam and Mercedes are still doing their dance quite unsuccessfully which prompts Emma with freshly printed pamphlets to advise SamCedes to spend a whole week not speaking to each other and when the week is up Mercedes will make her decision. For once I think Emma gave sound advice, yes the pamphlets are weird but her advice was good. At weeks end it appears Mercedes was reading to make her decision only to be pulled away by her boyfriend. So instead of this being solved it now contains another layer of what will happen next. I am still not that interested in this storyline like at all, but these two are actually good together so I don't hate it.

The songs: Download or Pass

Sexy and I Know it- Ricky Martin: While it would appear inappropriate for a teacher to sing this song in front of students is David really a teacher? This version is much better than the original the lyrics are still horrible but Martin singing a bi-lingual version actually made the song much better. Just picture Gwenyth Paltrow singing 'Forget You' and the episode takes shape, except Ricky Martin is a much better performer. I'd download this it's fun and upbeat.

Don't Want To Lose You - Mercedes: Another beautiful ballad by Amber Riley, I don't know Spanish but her's sounded great. But was anyone else just paying attention to all the great Finchel handholding? No? Just me, that's fine. If you want another Amber Riley ballad Download, if not it's still worth downloading.

"Bamboleo"/"Hero- Sam and the boys: I actually didn't hate this, more and more I am actually starting to like Chords voice. The outfits were weird especially the shoes and the number was really random but it kind of worked. I love Hero and that alone would make me download it, but it's not as catchy as Sexy and I Know It.

"La Isla Bonita - Ricky Marin and Naya Rivera: Outstanding! Best performance and song of the episode. Vocally they were outstanding and am demanding that they both release this song on their forthcoming albums it's an absolute hit. The performance was great not at all inappropriate as it could appear to be. The truth is Naya can have chemistry with a stick and it would still be hot. Download and then download again.

"A Little Less Conversation" - Will: Awful just awful. Literally everything was wrong about this, the costume, Brittany and Mike as bulls and the dancing. I know this was supposed to sell home just hoe far gone Will was this episode but there was so much wrong that not even the song could be saved. Pass!

I give the episode a 2.5/5. Like when Gwenyth was on there was no real point and barely any story lines were driven forward.

Best scene goes to brothers Hummel-Hudson family is the strongest bond and that was good to see on display.

Worst scene anything involving Will they destroyed Matt this episode and his character.

Also a 'worst' award goes to writer Ian Brennan, his sick and twisted sense of humor turns what could be stood episode into an even worse episode. When Glee is good it really is fantastic, but when it's bad it's all you ever remember.

What do you guys think? Also whose excited for Finchel proposal, Valentines Day and Brittana lip lock next week?
