Jan 28, 2012
The Walking DeadWhile Philip Blake, aka The Governor, is a major player in The Walking Dead comic book series, fans will have to wait until The Walking Dead Season 3 to see him take shape as a living human being. We recently caught up with Sex Machine Tom Savini, who revealed some interesting information about the casting of this important, though yet unseen, character.

LOL, the picture.
ReplyDeleteHm, they would have to leave out quite a lot if the governor is supposed to appear in S3.
ReplyDeleteTom Savini is an expert on the zombie topic and he would be good for the role, but I'm also thinking Robert Patrick
ReplyDeleteI thought the sole purpose of introducing a useless, cliché character like Merle Dixon was to turn him into the governor later on the show.
ReplyDeleteI mean, he's pretty crazy, he had to cut one of his hands because of Rick, and he disappeared for a while now. I don't see what other purpose for this character the writers could have had in mind. Even if I hated his scenes, I though it was a great idea to give some background to Merle because I thought I knew where the writers were eveneually going to go with him, but if they don't turn him into the governor, well then that was just stupid to have him in the first place.
If the writers have decided to go with someone else for that part (and thus going down in my esteem even more), Danny Trejo would be good. He can look scary, and he played a guy named Machete.
Yes please!
ReplyDeleteJohn Hawkes is AWESOME and one of the most underrated actors out there.
I'm not sure exactly what the role or personality of the Governor is, but Hawkes can bring a level of just under the skin combustibility to any role. He has the calm facade, but still manages to express the storm underneath.... It's incredible.
Tom Savini is PERFECT for the role. Sex Machine man!
ReplyDeleteLove John Hawkes. Yes. Yes. Yes please.
ReplyDeletejohn hawkes or danny trejo!
ReplyDeleteJohn Hawkes looks like a good fit. From the roles I've seen him in previous, he's never played much of a bad guy. But I think he could do it brilliantly!
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have Hawkes, even though Savini does look similar. HAwkes is just an underrated actor that needs more screen time, and TWD might do that. For anyone still not clued in on Hawkes, see Martha Marcy May Marlene.
ReplyDeleteFYI, I'm thinking Merle is going to be hiding out with the Governor. I don't exactly get why they would HAVE to make him that character. On the Trejo suggestion, he joined up on a different TV show I believe.
ReplyDeleteI also thought of Danny Trejo the second I saw the Governor, he just looks like him.
ReplyDeleteDepends on when during the season they'll introduce him.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, how awesome would that be. Yesterday I just watched Martha Marcy May Marlene and Hawkes was brilliant in it. Made me sad that Outlaw Country wasn't picked up and I thought get this man a great role on TV. This would be great!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the movie, but the ending through me a bit....
ReplyDeleteHawkes and Elizabeth Olsen were both very good! Hard to believe that was her first film and even harder to believe she's the Olsen Twins younger sister! XD
I honestly liked the ending a lot. Very intriguing. And I did a bit of research afterwards and found out that according to script the guy who crossed the street, got in a car and (possibly) followed them was the same guy that was sitting by the lake when Lucy went for a swim.
ReplyDeleteYou can never know for sure if he was a member of the cult, but I liked the ending that way and that piece of information was very interesting for me.
And before that movie I never knew about another Olsen sister. In the beginning I thought it was one of the twins, but realized soon that this is impossible.
I read that somewhere too!
ReplyDeleteI saw a DVD-screener before the movie was in theaters. So I wasn't sure if it was the actual ending or if something was going to be added on the back end etc... It just went black and ended with no credits even and I just was confused! It was very interesting once I realized that was the proper ending.
I think I've read you say that you saw Winter's Bone right? Hawkes was so brilliant in that too. He really plays that understated menacing role so well!
I'm not sure if the Governor is understated or over-the-top crazy, but I think Hawkes could pull it off no matter!
Yeah, I saw Winter's Bone too and was impressed by Hawkes. Since that I follow Hawkes' carreer and I'm very much looking forward to The Surrogate, I heard a lot of good things.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning the Governor comes off kind of nice, but in reality he's this cold and calculating guy. Later some things happen and because of that he goes pretty crazy. Should be a very versatile role if they stick to the comics and I think casting Hawkes would be brilliant.
they are both very good choices cant wait to see who it is going to be and cant wait to see the governor in season 3
