Who were some of your early influences?
I loved Universal monster movies when I was growing up. That was one of the most influential things. I love “Time Machine”. I loved “War of the Worlds”. In terms of makeup people, I sort of got introduced to (Tom) Savini, Rick Baker and Rob Bottin kind of right all at the same time that everybody else did. I remember seeing “Dawn of the Dead” and “Friday the 13th”. I was a big fan of Tom’s because of the way his work was utilized in movies. It was astounding.
How as KNB first formed?
We started in 1988. What happened was after “Evil Dead 2” me, Howard (Berger) and Bob (Kurtzman) all realized we complemented each other, that our abilities were perfectly suited to have us start a company. So after working at Mark Shostrom’s we really decided it was a good idea to just join forces.
You recently directed a short called “The United Monster Talent Agency” and some webisodes of The Walking Dead. Do you have any desire to direct a feature some day?
Yeah. There are a couple of projects that I am interested in doing.
