I'm crying. I'm such a "pussy" as Quinn would say.
I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I cringed. This Finale, actually no, this show had it all. I love that the end was actually a new beginning. So Glad Chuck was #1 trending on twitter tonight, It has been a pleasure. Goodbye Chuck.
Everything that was great about the series in the previous five seasons embodied in 2 absolutely phenomenal hours of television! Perfect ending to one of my all time favorite series.
I thought it was bad. The whole arc with Sarah is a lesson on how to ruin 4+ seasons of character development for the sake of avoiding a "conventional" ending. A fictitious story with a character arc and progression is to show change whether it be for the better or for the worse. They basically developed her arch and snapped her character back to the way she was season 1 like a rubber band and invalidated all the change we'd seen in her from season 1. Totally counter-intuitive. Not to mention the memory erasing intersect thing is just redundant considering they did the same thing to Morgan. I felt bludgeoned by the underwhelming concept.
Amazing ending in my opinion - really, a perfect two hours with too many memories to recount - and so many great flashbacks to what made the show great. Chuck just cemented itself in my top 10 and perhaps top 5 tv shows with that episode/s
I still think that the Season 2 "series finale" (i.e., the season finale minus the last scene) held more weight for me than this one and really felt like the perfect series finale, but I still really enjoyed this one (and the Season 2 comment is not to say that I wish Seasons 3-5 didn't happen; I did like those seasons). It was a great finale, but whether it's the ambiguity at the ending, or everybody just leaving and separating at the end, or maybe just the lack of a certain surprise (no idea what, but from what I remember I wasn't outright shocked by anything that happened in the episode), it fell just shy of "Awesome" for me. I want to vote "Awesome" for it, but it didn't quite reach that for me. Then again, I do think it was quite a bit better than "Great", so I may have to vote "Awesome" even though I don't 100% stand by that vote.
I was an awesome send off for the great little show that could/did. I liked that the finale took us back to the beginning for all the characters somewhat and the end brought it forward to the new beginnings for everyone, and even thought the final scene left some doubt for Chuck/Sarah, it was a new beginning of their happily ever after. Thanks to everyone that worked on this show and kept us entertained for 5 seasons. In intersect speak, it went by in a "flash"... Kudos
I disagree. I think regardless of Sarah's memories being wiped (which she was regaining slowly), she was accepting of her new self and her character didn't regress much at all. She was willing to hear about her change, she accepted it as reality, she talked about her feelings (or lack thereof), she wanted Chuck to kiss her. I feel like we've had so many beautiful moments with Sarah's progression (the whole season was about that, truly) and now we got the beginning of another story. And I, personally, thought it was beautiful.
Chuck and Sarah kiss; Sarah remembers; and everything is just as it should be. I appreciate Fedak's storytelling.
I'm so proud of the creators and writers for keeping Chuck's character true and steady to the very end - he never had the steely do-what-you're-told attitude that most other spies we met did. When it came down to it, he was a genuine, compassionate person that found another way to get the job done or to get through to someone, even when he was told there was only one solution. I'm glad he wasn't a totally static character throughout the series, but they didn't make changes to his core - what made Chuck the lovable dork we all came to love. I loved the sequence when Chuck was reliving his memories with Sarah in their dream house. The images that they cut into what he was saying were an amazing and nostalgic trip down memory lane, and the emotion was palpable. The faith he had in Sarah was astounding, and it was so hard to see it have no effect on her (until she saw the wall carving). LOVED the Sarah video diary. We never truly got to see what was in her head in any of those significant moments that she detailed, and I really enjoyed it. Sarah back in her Wienerlicious costume in Berlin was absolutely priceless.. they really did a fantastic job of book-ending the show - and it seems fitting somehow that she started feeling familiar there.I actually had to pause my video when Chuck shot down Casey's helicopter I was laughing so hard - and right there, is one of the reasons I absolutely loved this show. Yeah, it has some great action sequences, suspense, and intrigue, but there is a creative comedic element as well. All in all, I thought it was a great way to end the series. It combined all of the elements I loved about the show in the first place, even including Jeffster on the final mission, and gave everyone a head start on a new beginning. Well done, Chuck. We'll miss you!
Wish I could vote awesome, but two things keep from doing so. I feel like the kiss left the end open ended somewhat. Yes it's implied that Sarah got her memories back, but I would have felt much better if there was an additional scene that confirmed it. It's just that they kept mentioning that the kiss bringing back memories was something out of a fairytale and in real life fairytales don't come true (and in the show the characters lives are "real life"). So it seems like the ending can be interpreted as either Sarah did get her memories back or the notion of kiss bringing back Sarah's memories was silly, but it represents her being willing to start new memories. And while I was happy about some new beginnings for some people (Jeffster), I would have rather seen the group stick together in the end. Have Verbanski come to LA and find Casey instead of him leave, and don't have Ellie and Awesome leave. Somehow I would have felt more content picturing the characters carrying on with Charmichael Industries. I think Morgan's advice to Casey in the episode about them being at their best as a team applies to them all.Zachary Levi's performance was awesome though. I completely choked up during the scene when he brought Sarah to her dream house to try to get her to remember. He really knocked all the emotional scenes out of the park (as did all the actors-I in interviews they said it was really tough filming those final scenes).
I disagree about the open ended ending comment, it works quite well in my opinion because this way it can serve to two different crowds. Either way, Sarah and Chuck get their happy ending and those that actually like the idea of these two kissing and Sarah getting her memories back can picture that; and people who think that Sarah getting her memories back from a kiss is a little ridiculous then they can picture Chuck getting Sarah to love him all over again and them being happy regardless.
It was great, loved many things about it and that most people stayed true to character. Only had a few gripes with some things:
-Quinn getting taken down too easily, I was hoping for some big showdown but he was just shot and done with. -Casey trying to revert back to his Season 1 self -Mary Bartowski kind of seemed out of place -No confirmation on the ending for Chuck/Sarah
Now in some ways I really like the prospect of some stories that leave an ambiguous ending, leaving it up to the viewer to make their own judgment on how it ends. Me, I will believe that Sarah remembered everything in that kiss because even though she was remembering little things and was a little more open to remember, it did reset all the progress she made through the series. I'm with Katie in that I would've liked a concrete ending for that kiss making her remember. I was hoping when Sarah and Chuck kissed all of those memories he told her would flash in her head and she would remember, and the two would share a kiss with Sarah's memory restored.
Enough of the little things, I still thoroughly enjoyed it and loved seeing Casey get his happy ending (and not dying like many predicted/feared), Morgan/Alex together, Ellie/Devon getting a happy ending, and even Jeffster. Love the series, love the run, and and I will greatly miss it.
LOVED everything except that Sarah lost her memory :( all those memories were too precious for someone like me as a fan..so imagine how valuable its for that character. it was so disappointing that she didn't get it back. :( Like someone else said, its like 4.11 seasons of character development/progression went to waste. why did they do that?????!!!! Now when I watch old scenes, I could say, what's the use of this she's not gonna remember this in the end anyway :(
I thought it was an amazingly beautiful finale. I laughed and I cried and felt every emotion in between. I've watched (and loved) this show from the beginning and I am sad to see it go, but the finale was beautifully done, so i guess I'm happy. Goodbye Chuck!
For a show that is usually light and has a lot of easy fixes, where the endings are usually happy and no one important tends to die, I thought it was a brave way to go out. I was just waiting for the moment where "TA-DA! Look, audience! Everything is okay and Sarah remembers everything!" to come. And it didn't. It was both and and satisfying for me.
It was not an ending but a launching point for the Chuck Movies which I estimate to be done in a few years. It did not satisfy the fan base at all. I know why. Chuck Fans are the most vocal of all the different Fans bases. With this pressure Chuck will return!
I thought that the finale was great. It made me laugh and cry and left me with a sense that things will go on in the Chuck world maybe with a few bumps in the road with Sarah's memories but I'm of the opinion that she will fall in love with Chuck again...and this time she won't be a spy pretending at first.
Trying to type this with tears still in my eyes. Even though I predicated a lot of what was going to happen it was still so lovely and perfect and the ending the show and fans deserved. Also so relived that no one died, I was really expecting Casey might take one for the team so happy that didn't happen.
Chuck has had its up and downs I think it had some problems in S4 especially but this season has been great and really I am forever grateful for the cast, crew and the fans that always fought for another season even when everyone told them they were getting cancelled.
Loved and hated it, everything else has been said here already.
I'm deciding right here and now to just forget (;-) the ending I would have like and go with what we've got.NO more nitpicking! (ok maybe hoping for a movie, but that's all =D)
I liked it, I love how they made the most ridiculous plot device (memory erasing) work so well. You can nitpick with things like how Casey, Ellie, Awesome and baby awesome left.. blah blah but you know i think in a show about people life moves forward. How dull would it be if every show did the Scrubs season 8 finale (Which by the way was fucking amazing) chuck and sarah will always have more stories to tell. I can criticise alot about chuck as a whole but even in the shows weakest episodes i have loved every minute. It was an Amazing story.
PS. Im hoping for a comic continuation and a Jeffster EP :D
I agree. My preference would be that they slowly came back so I liked the open ending. She was still open to the kiss, she was still Sarah, and there was that commitment to each other no matter what outcome.
I still don't know how to feel about the ending! I was disappointed, then sad, then satisfy and feel disappointed again. I'm sure that Chuck and Sarah will get back together but I just needed to see it!
I thought it worked really well, too - it left things open enough that people could decide for themselves what happened next. I personally don't believe that Morgan's idea of "one magical kiss" could bring everything back, but I saw it as a new start and a new beginning.. she was already starting to remember some things, so I don't think Chuck's going to have to start over completely - I think she's well on her way, and I think everyone's en route to their happy ending.
I'm a bit more hopeful than that - she had already started to remember things toward the end. They may not have been huge, important things, but I think the ending gave us a little confidence that she was on her way to recovery. And one of things we love about Chuck is that he'll be there with her every step of the way, helping her to remember. And what's important is I think the end demonstrated that she's willing to work it through with him - she WANTS to remember. It may not have been closure in the sense that she made a full recovery, but I think they're on their way to being happy again.
I totally agree - I think having her remember everything would have been too easy, especially so soon. I think it was a testament to how well-written it really was when Chuck used the glasses to learn how to dismantle the bomb instead of being selfish and keeping them for Sarah's memories. That's who he is at his core, and though it might have killed him to lose what seemed like the only chance for his happy ending, he knew there were greater things at stake. I think they did a great job.
Wow. I really liked it. The interviews mentioning that they were incorporating elements from the series run had me a little worried but the last two eps felt organic and intense and emotional. I think they hit everything they wanted to with that finale. I waited to watch last week's up so I could see all three hours in one sitting and was glad I did. (This guy was, I think, the only really villainous villain they've had. Most have been forgettable and kind of comic book {never a problem} but watching this guy continuously force Sarah to flash was excruciating.)
I will admit to crying when Chuck was pleading with Sarah to believe that he loved her. I'm glad that they didn't take an easy way out with getting Sarah to remember. When Chuck put on the glasses I just kept thinking...that's why she loves you. Jeffster!!! Oh, and yeah...Jeffster lives! lol
Sigh. Everything else is turning in to a slosh of burbles. I'm really happy that the last few eps were high notes for me.
Cant believe that its actually over! :'( and yes i did cry at the end. haha
The biggest part of me loved it, but there was still a tiny bit which made me not fully enjoy the ending. I loved the open-endness of it, however to me some of the story lines in the past i.e. the wanting to get the red doored house, starting a family and sarah accepting a "normal" life just seemed to be worth a little less than before. I dont no, i think im just being picky.
However, on a good note which made most of it better was that fact the Chuck never gave up on Sarah and Sarah somehow knew there was a connection between them. Which meant she always came back :) Just loved that.
Apart from the chuck-sarah storyline, I actually like the rest of it. How casey accepted that he finally changed and was willing to go for love. How Ellie finally felt comfortable to leave Chuck (which in comparsion to the first epi is amazing) :) and how Morgan finally grew up. haha
Overall, I loved the majority of it, ill just let my mind fill in the rest. :) oh and i soooooo support a Chuck movie!! SIGN ME UP!! :D
I totally called it. I feared after last week's show that we'd get stuck with a "Sarah doesn't get her memories back but learns to love Chuck all over again" ending and that is exactly what we got.
Damn it.
This is a show that has been all about shiny, happy pay-offs for its characters since day one and they choose to divert from that formula in the finale to give us some sort of bittersweet, open-ended, clumsily poetic schlock? Disappointing.
Jeffster got a better ending than Chuck and Sarah. That says it all right there.
I understand why some people weren't 100% satisfied with the ending - but I can't count myself as one of those. I thought the ending was perfect. I don't envision a way they could have done so many callbacks without the method they used - and the fact is, the show really came full circle.
Sarah was clearly remembering and the moment Chuck mentioned the kiss, yes, we knew how it was going to end - but I don't think it's a bad thing. It does keep the option of a movie open which I love - but more importantly, it provided me with confidence that Chuck and Sarah were going to be just fine. The fact is - Chuck is the name of the show and Chuck grew before our eyes.
The Chuck on the beach in the Pilot versus the Chuck we saw in the The End was a complete 180 - and that's the point. The intersect changed his and everyone's life.
For me, the journey has been amazing and I love all the characters. I"ll def. miss Chuck.
That's cool and I understand what you mean. I just personally felt betrayed after investing years into the show and they go down this memory wiping route which they had already explored with Morgan. I just felt that they thought I didn't get it the first time and it just rubbed me the wrong way.
I've had a chance to re-watch it and I'm much more receptive to the route they took. I was just angry at the final arch initially and wasn't thinking logically. Upon repeat viewing's I've found that I liked it more and more. I was too blinded with anger to completely notice the narrative for what it was truly trying to say.
I guess first impression's aren't always a true indicator of quality. Which, ironically, was the whole draw of Sarah to Chuck. I guess I deserve it XD.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Holy fuck that was an amazing and intense finale. I loved it!
ReplyDeletenormal !!! that last scene is very beautiful

ReplyDeleteI loved it but I want moree!! Maybe they should make a movie...ugh! NBC!! WHY?!?!?!
I thought it was bad. The whole arc with Sarah is a lesson on how to ruin 4+ seasons of character development for the sake of avoiding a "conventional" ending. I'm glad he wasn't a totally static character throughout the series, but they didn't make changes to his core - what made Chuck the lovable dork we all came to love.
ReplyDeleteI loved the sequence when Chuck was reliving his memories with Sarah in their dream house.
What a perfect ending
ReplyDeleteI totally called it. I feared after last week's show that we'd get stuck with a "Sarah doesn't get her memories back but learns to love Chuck all over again" ending and that is exactly what we got.
ReplyDeleteDamn it.
ReplyDeleteSarah was clearly remembering and the moment Chuck mentioned the kiss, yes, we knew how it was going to end - but I don't think it's a bad thing.
I"ll def. miss Chuck.
Disaster season. Disaster finale.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool and I understand what you mean. I just personally felt betrayed after investing years into the show and they go down this memory wiping route which they had already explored with Morgan. I just felt that they thought I didn't get it the first time and it just rubbed me the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteI've had a chance to re-watch it and I'm much more receptive to the route they took.
