I don't know how I'm gonna like seeing Rumpelstiltskin being the beast, it's gonna be weird without the magical furniture dancing around and singing, but I'm looking forward for their twist on the story.
The more I think about this, the more annoyed I'm getting. I don't like the idea of him as the beast at all. I guess it makes sense now that I never heard any news about them casting an actor as the beast though
With the Evil queen there we know the fairtale flashbacks take place after the King Is killed but before Rumpy made deals to replace Price James and made deals with CInderalla.
I have no problem with Rump being the beast. The story is still the same. Rump unwillingly gets turned into a beast, Belle gives up her freedom to him to save someone, she sees the good in him, they fall in love.
He just can't have his happy ending right now. Maybe when the series ends, he and Belle will live hapily ever after.
there was a casting of prince james which is the beast so im guessing somehow someway in sometime during james to beast transformations rumple maybe poses as him? idk but yea i was surprised by this whole rumple beast thing. the only thing im happy about is that more robert carylye! best actor on the show! i will never forget his touching performance from his desperate souls episode as he turns from good to bad.
If at the end of this series, Regina pulls off a latex mask and reveals that she was Rumple the whole time, I wouldn't even be surprised. The guy is everyone. It's all one big Rumplestiltskin Conspiracy.
That said, I kind of like that he's the beast. I think if they play it right, it could be very interesting.
I find Rumple an interesting character/antagonist and he's definitely a wildcard, but I'm getting kind of tired of him getting injected into every single story. Oh well, looks like a good episode, especially with Claire...I mean Emilie...
This takes place after Regina has tricked Sydney to kill the King.Rumpy became Rumpy before Jimny Cricket became a Cricket so his son Is long dead by the time he meets Belle.
When they have Robert Carlyle playing Rumpy can you blame them for wanting to use him as much as possable. While Rumpy tends to be involved In some way In most fairy tale flashbacks his overall screen time has been limited. This will be his lsecond longest appearance In episode afte his flashback origin episode.
Oh, no, I just swore I would not ever watch another episode of this show. I think it get´s worse every week. BUT I forgot about Emilie de Ravin!!! I might have to watch next weeks episode after all.
Rumple as the beast is an interesting twist. I can totally imagine Robert Carlyle and Emilie de Ravin playing the belle and the beast! Only the end of this fairy tale seems too happy to ever happen with Rumple.
I don't think Rumple is the real Beast. He either killed the real one or hid him. It's deffo a conspiracy, why would EQ be involved. Rumple is just evil and when Belle goes to kiss him you can see she doesn't love him. And looks like Rumple is killing someone too... Belle or the Beast? Looking forward to this one.
I was hoping with the lack of casting information it would just turn out to be someone else we've already met (like Dr.Whale or something of the sort).
Still I'm with ya: Quite annoying. And may I also say a little unspired. IMO it's quite easy to turn the only monster looking main character into the "Beast"
I agree the show could definitelly use more of RC's awesomeness. However in this particular case I'm not so sure I will like Rumple being integrated in such an iconic fairytale so much that it will basically change the course the whole story...
Easy: a normal man gets cursed as a result of his own actions and must find true love to be cured, that is the essence of the Beast. Already at this point you can draw clear parallels to Once's take on Rumpelstilzkin. As for how this story can be done in a plausible manner, they just need to go with how the original tale started (all the while taking some artistic liberties with the details):
The Beauty's father, a merchant, is travelling abroad and has bough two gifts for the two other sisters, but he has yet to find anything beautiful enough to give to his third, and fairest daughter. On his way home he stumbles upon a beautiful garden filled with roses, and picks one. The owner, the Beast, ceizes him and wants to kill him, but agrees to make a deal (see why Rumple is such a logical choice now?): he will be allowed to keep the stolen rose, if he gives the Beast the first thing he sees when he gets home. And the Beauty just so happens to be the one greeting him when he arrives (I've always thought of the father as a rather...egoistic and insane man, trading the first thing he sees for a rose >_> ).
The rest of the story is obviously up for the writer's interpretation, but one MAJOR part should be included (they even included it in the Disney version): The Beast, who's grown to love the Beauty (but before she realizes she loves him too) allows her to go home, but when she's not coming back he gets sick and nearly dies. But it being a fairy tale and all: the Beauty comes to the rescue and gives him the kiss of love and he's freed from both his illness and his curse (reversed Snow White and Sleeping Beauty scenario ftw).
And with the Evil Queen's presence in the promo I'd guess that this time we won't be treated to a happy ending, which would also explain why Mr. Gold/Rumple hates Regina/Evil Queen so much (but not enough to turn down deals with her, and you need not look any further than the story with Cinderella. It was so obviously a trap, yet he couldn't resist, so his hatred towards the Queen shouldn't really matter to his deal-making urges)
And just to close off: if they added YET ANOTHER character to the main roster, while still in the first season, we'd probably loose count long before this story gets to its last season (assuming that it gets renewed a couple of times). And despite making perfect sense to give Rumple the honor of playing the Beast it still annoys me how they keep injecting him into those stories (just glad they didn't force-inject him into this week's episode).
ugh my favorite Disney story is beauty and the beast and I knew I was going to be disappointed with the way they're going with it. Rumple the beast?? noo nope, sorry. Thats not working for me...I guess I'll see for sure when the episode airs.
That´s what I´m hoping for, that in the end we were just tricked. However, the idea of having Rumple as the Beast is quite interesting, definately a shock.
I believe my reaction was the same as everyone elses: "What? What? WHAT???" I had to watch the promo twice to actually understand it. I just didn´t believe it at first.
I like the twist (as a twist) but I want Belle to have her happy ending, and I don't see how she can with Rumple being the Beast.
I must admit I too was surprised to see who the beast turned out to be and now they are making us wait two weeks to see the episode as some boring sports thing is on next week. Don't they know I don't like sport?
But that's been true in every case to date-- the course of all the "classic" stories diverge from their original tellings. The iconic element of each story remains in its OUaT version, but besides that they're all new tales.
Yes but the main structure for each story until now has pretty much remained the same. I can deal with an incorporation where for example it's Rumple who grants Cinderella her wish. You diminish a minor character in that case. But him being the beast doesn't work for me. I'd prefer if he were say.... the one who cursed the prince into being a beast instead.... I don't know.
I think this has a lot more do with me begining to lose interest and faith in the show. I'm not finding the naration to be very consistent and the fairytale world/storybrooke balance is incredibly uneven. And choices like these just seem to alienate me even more.
What's with all the hatred? Rumplestiltskin as the Beast? AWESOME!!!! THIS IS GONNA BE AN EPIC EPISODE!! Also, Emilie de Ravin doesn't hurt, I love Claire! :D
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Wait, what? Is Rumple the Beast too?
ReplyDeleteI know right? maybe he killed the beast liked he killed Cinderella's fairy godmother
ReplyDeleteSo Kristin was actually right with her scoop after all. Wow!
ReplyDeletethanks
ReplyDeleteRumpelstiltskin has a rockin' hair crimper.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I'm gonna like seeing Rumpelstiltskin being the beast, it's gonna be weird without the magical furniture dancing around and singing, but I'm looking forward for their twist on the story.
ReplyDeleteI can´t wait!!!!!! Rumple like a beast...love scene!!! awesooomeee!!!!
ReplyDeleterumple is the beast ! wow can't wait to see that !
ReplyDeleteSo excited for this episode! I'm already shipping them, lol!
ReplyDeleteEmilie looks stunning as Belle....and her outfits..gah!!!
Rumple = Beast?
ReplyDeleteThat's so wrong
The more I think about this, the more annoyed I'm getting. I don't like the idea of him as the beast at all. I guess it makes sense now that I never heard any news about them casting an actor as the beast though
ReplyDeleteAn Intresting twist on Beauty and the Beast.

Interesting twist to the story. It'll be fun to see this interpretation of the tale...
ReplyDeleteI find Rumple an interesting character/antagonist and he's definitely a wildcard, but I'm getting kind of tired of him getting injected into every single story. Oh well, looks like a good episode, especially with Claire...I mean Emilie...
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought maybe Belle was his son's mother, but he's already the Dark One.. So he just abandoned his son?
ReplyDeleteAnyways, looks fantastic!
This takes place after Regina has tricked Sydney to kill the King.Rumpy became Rumpy before
ReplyDeleteJimny Cricket became a Cricket so his son Is long dead by the time he meets Belle.

Do we know for sure his son is dead?
ReplyDeleteWhat?! I don't mind Rumpy being in the SL but as the beast?!? Not liking this
ReplyDeleteI agree...it will only make him become annoying and makes the writers a little dull since they couldn't think of other characters besides him
ReplyDeleteWe don't know for sure. But his son would have to be pretty old, considering how old Gepetto was before Storybrooke.
ReplyDeleteMore Rump/Gold. It's what this show needs tbh. Robert Carlyle is super fun to watch.
ReplyDeletei wish there was an actual beast.
ReplyDeleteSo Rumple's the Beast? I did NOT see this one coming!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm.....
ReplyDeleteCan his son be Regina's father? It would be a hell of a twist! :)
awwwwwwww some Rumple love .. I am SO excited for this!
ReplyDeleteThis looks UNBELIEVABLE. Rumple as the beast? WIN! Emilie de Ravin? WIN. I just can't handle the 2-week-hiatus :/
ReplyDeleteOh, no, I just swore I would not ever watch another episode of this show. I think it get´s worse every week. BUT I forgot about Emilie de Ravin!!! I might have to watch next weeks episode after all.
ReplyDeleteFuck yeah! I love it that they don't only bring new characters in it but ALSO connect existing ones together. EPIC... can't wait for evil Rumpel!
ReplyDeleteOMG OMG OMG OMG OMG! Rumple is the beast too! LOVE it!! And Claire from Lost as Belle! AWESOME!! Too bad it's in 2 weeks though.
ReplyDeletelol I love your idea about a big Rumplestiltskin Conspiracy! This guy is so obviously everywhere on OUAT!
ReplyDeleteRumple as the beast is an interesting twist. I can totally imagine Robert Carlyle and Emilie de Ravin playing the belle and the beast!
ReplyDeleteOnly the end of this fairy tale seems too happy to ever happen with Rumple.
Ditto.
ReplyDeleteOh wow.. So Rumpy is 130 years old?
ReplyDeleteReally? What don't you like about it?
ReplyDeleteI don't think Rumple is the real Beast. He either killed the real one or hid him. It's deffo a conspiracy, why would EQ be involved. Rumple is just evil and when Belle goes to kiss him you can see she doesn't love him. And looks like Rumple is killing someone too... Belle or the Beast? Looking forward to this one.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like such a good episode
ReplyDeletehe could very well be... He is a wizard of some kind and it looks like he doesn't age...
ReplyDeleteI was hoping with the lack of casting information it would just turn out to be someone else we've already met (like Dr.Whale or something of the sort).
ReplyDeleteStill I'm with ya: Quite annoying.

Robert Carlyle is a great actor. I'm hoping that this role has some meat to it for him.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of that! I think that would be an awesome twist.
ReplyDeleteI didn't expect that Rumpy would be the Beast in this story. Looking forward to seeing Emilie on TV screen again
ReplyDeleteWTF? Rumple is the Beast too?!? I'm so confused...
ReplyDeleteEasy: a normal man gets cursed as a result of his own actions and must find true love to be cured, that is the essence of the Beast. Already at this point you can draw clear parallels to Once's take on Rumpelstilzkin.

Wow Rumple is the beast! I really wasn't expecting that!
ReplyDeleteGood to see Emile after so long! Wait now, we have to wait 2 whole weeks for the next one!
ReplyDeleteAnd Rumpel as the beast...who would've thought!
wow.. I would never have guessed! awesome
ReplyDeleteThat looks dark. Good, very good. Hopefully will shut up the person that's keeps telling me the show is too "fluffy" for them.
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks fantastic! Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteWhat?!? What happen to the "real" beast?
ReplyDeleteShe reminds me so much of the Disney Belle...
ReplyDeleteugh my favorite Disney story is beauty and the beast and I knew I was going to be disappointed with the way they're going with it. Rumple the beast?? noo nope, sorry. Thats not working for me...I guess I'll see for sure when the episode airs.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE that Rumple's the beast! Whoever called that one a few weeks back, great job :) I can't wait to see the next stage of his journey.
ReplyDeleteBut that's been true in every case to date-- the course of all the "classic" stories diverge from their original tellings. The iconic element of each story remains in its OUaT version, but besides that they're all new tales.
ReplyDeleteMr gold is the best? surprising!
ReplyDeleteHe became a composer for Ariel, then turned into a genie in the lamp, then became a mirror, then suddenly became Merlin, then turned into a beast...
ReplyDeleteSo good. I love this show.
ReplyDeleteYes but the main structure for each story until now has pretty much remained the same. I can deal with an incorporation where for example it's Rumple who grants Cinderella her wish. ReplyDeleteoh, weird.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with all the hatred? Rumplestiltskin as the Beast? AWESOME!!!! THIS IS GONNA BE AN EPIC EPISODE!! Also, Emilie de Ravin doesn't hurt, I love Claire! :D
ReplyDelete
