MONDAY

Up against tougher competition, Gerry Dee’s new CBC school sitcom Mr. D fell from 1,230,000 to 947,000 viewers in its second outing. Little Mosque dropped 622,000 to 459,000, and Kevin O’Leary’s new prison reality show Redemption Inc. slipped from 789,000 to 600,000. The roughly 20 per cent drop all around is fairly typical as a new series finds its ultimate level.

The premiere of NBC import Betty White’s Off Their Rockers brought 1,498,000 viewers to CTV at 8. A Two and a Half Men repeat followed (806,000) as well as a new episode of the Ashton Kutcher comedy at 9 (1,935,000). New episodes of Mike & Molly (1,534,000) and Castle (1,851,000) contributed to a big night on CTV.

Reruns of NCIS (881,000) and House (496,000) kept Global in check. A new Hawaii FIVE-0 at 10 did 1,530,000.

The premiere of the shot-in-Vancouver prison drama Alcatraz got City’s night off to an arresting start with 1,156,000 viewers. How I Met Your Mother (278,000) and 2 Broke Girls (272,000) followed.

CTV Two got a failing grade with another movie from the '60s, The Graduate (94,000). Discovery got high bids from back-to-back Auction Kings (332,000 and 348,000). Pretty Little Liars at MuchMusic drew 125,000. Score pinned 393,000 with WWE Raw. Midsomer Murders killed on TVO with 253,000 viewers.

TUESDAY

Sportsnet National beat everyone Tuesday night with 1,991,000 tuning in for Hometeam Hockey. Most were tuned to Sportsnet Ontario for the Ottawa/Toronto game (911,000).

There was glee at Global as Glee drew 1,505,000. A rerun of NCIS: Los Angeles drew 855,000. Parenthood at 10 did 677,000.

The Rick Mercer Report was back as CBC’s top Tuesday show with 1,014,000 viewers. 22 Minutes was also strong at 8:30 with 836,000. The new CBC drama Arctic Air dipped from its strong 1,055,000 opening but stayed lofty at 885,000 viewers.

CTV's new Tuesday comedy combo went Whitney (1,068,000), Hot in Cleveland (1,027,000). Pan Am ran into turbulence at 9 (434,000). Unforgettable did 1,020,000 at 10.

City aired back-to-back Last Man Standing (402,000 and 299,000) followed by New Girl (649,000), Raising Hope (363,000) and Body of Proof (636,000).

Discovery had another bonanza with Gold Rush Alaska (604,000). Canada’s Handyman Challenge went up to 258,000 on HGTV. The second episode of The L.A. Complex drew 87,000 on MuchMusic.

WEDNESDAY

The two-hour, 11th season premiere of American Idol was a hit on CTV with an overnight, estimated 2,366,000 viewers. That was followed by a strong CSI at 2,275,000.

The renewed competition had an impact at CBC but not by much. Dragons’ Den fell back to 1,288,000 CBC viewers. Guest star Shannon Tweed boosted Republic of Doyle to 1,179,000 viewers.

CTV Two saw a strong return for Criminal Minds (1,185,000). America’s Next Top Model (64,000) is a weak lead-in. Law & Order: SVU fetched 466,000.

Global’s Bomb Girls continues to exceed its title, down slightly to 1,086,000. Back-to-back premiere episodes of Are You There, Chelsea? drew 510,000 and 420,000. Kitchen Nightmares cooked up 359,000.

City stuck with The Middle (406,000), Suburgatory (376,000), Modern Family (735,000), Happy Endings (487,000) and Revenge (477,000).

Ice Pilots NWT (348,000) and IRT: Deadliest Roads (520,000) remain frozen solid at History. Another 303,000 watched Boston Rob’s Around the World in 80 Ways. A Washington/Montreal game drew 462,000 on TSN.



THURSDAY

A new Big Bang Theory exploded to 3,534,000 CTV viewers. Up All Night tumbled back down to 978,000 at 8:30. Grey’s Anatomy did 2,083,000 at 9 followed by The Mentalist (1,994,000).

American Idol (1,269,000) lost more than a million viewers in its first weekly switch over to CTV Two. The Vampire Diaries at 7 drew 254,000.

The Leafs drew 1,113,000 while defeating the Wild on TSN.

Global started weak with The Office (289,000) then got a lift from Rob Schneider’s new CBS comedy Rob (844,000). The Finder , a Bones spinoff, drew 975,000 in its second week, a drop of 410,000 from the premiere the week before. The third episode of the new drama The Firm was steady at 825,000.

Coronation Street (753,000) and Jeopardy! (1,028,000) still do better from 7 to 8 than Nature of Things (414,000) and Doc Zone (332,000) do in CBC prime.

City aired a rerun of 30 Rock (143,000), Parks and Recreation (295,000), Person of Interest (750,000) and Private Practice (488,000).

FRIDAY

CTV’s Friday went CSI: New York (1,036,000), Grimm (1,078,000), Blue Bloods (1,304,000).

Marketplace’s strong 39th season continued with 893,000 tuning in for “Trouble for Rent.” A half-hour Mercer repeat was next (599,000) followed by the fifth estate’s “Lies People Tell” (752,000).

A Gifted Man (653,000) got Global’s Friday off to a fair start, but King (254,000) may be better left on Showcase. Harry’s Law drew 519,000 at 10.

Shark Tank premieres to 443,000 on CTV Two. Family Channel reached a high of 440,000 with A.N.T. Farm. WWE Smackdown drew 329,000 on Score.

SATURDAY

Hockey Night in Canada drew 2,379,000 for the 7:04 game with Leafs/Habs in the mix. The late game featuring Calgary at Edmonton drew 920,000.

The 2012 Canadian Figure Skating Championships drew 792,000 viewers at 7 p.m. on CTV.

Saturday Night Live drew 415,000 11:30 p.m. viewers on Global. Merlin did 254,000 on Space.

SUNDAY

Were you ready for some football? CTV was, with 2,048,000 catching the afternoon AFC Championship game and a further 2,361,000 cheering on the Giants in the NFC Championship. CTV also got 1,440,000 for the CBS post-game show and 1,159,000 for the Fox post-gamer. The delayed American Idol telecast pulled 1,255,000 just before 11 p.m.

Heartland was up on CBC at 7 with 913,000 viewers. The movie Cars drove 739,000 to CBC at 8.

CTV bumped Once Upon a Time over to CTV Two in most of their markets and drew 741,000. Desperate Housewives, also on the Two this week, did 723,000. CSI: Miami did 661,000.

Global weathered the games with The Simpsons (527,000), Family Guy (446,000), The Good Wife (682,000) and Prime Suspect (705,000).

City’s big Sunday draw was again America’s Funniest Home Videos (839,000). Lost Girl was found by 330,000 on Showcase. Source: Toronto
