Were you still anxiously waiting for the last two episodes of Undercovers ? Neither was I, but thanks to Australian TV channel Nine, we will soon have closure and find out the truth in the epic conclusion of this show.
The only season of Undercovers started on October 18 (an episode each Tuesday at 12 am). Episode 1.12 (Dark Cover) will air on January 2, and the season/series finale (episode 1.13, The Reason) will air the following week on January 9.
Undercovers, the spy drama created for NBC by JJ Abrams (the man behind mind-blowing hits such as What About Brian and Six Degrees), will soon reveal all its secrets and unravel all of its mythology (or not), namely the reason why the Blooms were brought back into the espionage world.
For those who don't remember (how can you be blamed for forgetting all about this show ?), we were left on the edge of our seat when Alan Dale acted all mysterious and then walked away at the end of episode 1.11 (broadcasted on Wednesday, December 29, 2010). During the whole season, Samantha and Steven Bloom (initials : SB, like Alias' Sidney Bristow, that's pretty much all the brainstorming JJ and his people did on this show) occasionally thought it was weird they were asked to come back as spies (despite them quiting 5 years before to start a restaurant filled with cliché secondary characters). And through all the loner episodes (as if the show was nothing more than a lazy procedural with spies, with the name of the creator of Lost in the credits), they never got to the bottom of that until episode 1.11.
Here's the entire mythology of the show, all the serialized elements in Undercovers (I'm not kidding) based on my blury memories and the transcript of episode 11 : the pilot ended with a cliffhanger revealing the Blooms didn't know the real reason they were brought back, the ending of episode 1.04 emphazised that with no further information, and Alan Dale's voice was heard in episode 1.08 (and when there's Alan Dale you know something's fishy) repeating that the Blooms were brought back for a reason. He appeared in person in episode 1.11 when Mrs Bloom realized something was not right with their eleventh predictable loner mission. He confirmed there was a hidden motive and it may or may not be linked to one of Mrs Bloom's past mission. Then Mr Bloom got upset, started to realize the show doesn't make sense ("I mean, do you even wonder why they even asked us back in the first place?"... that's an actual line, arriving at that point of the season) and then the show was pulled out of NBC's schedule, just when there was a slight chance we could finally get to the bottom of things, and find out the reason why JJ Abrams created the show (he wrote/directed the pilot and he also wrote the next 2 episodes, that's more involvment than on most of his other shows).
Well, thanks to Nine (and thanks to international sales done way prior the beginning of the US broadcast), we get to have all 13 episodes of Undercovers, at last. Episode 1.13 is entitled The Reason, let's hope it lives up to its eloquent title just to see why we've wasted time.
UPDATE : I know many countries have probably shown all 13 episodes in 2011 (I myself could see those two episodes but I don't like watching dubbed TV shows), but I think Australia will be the first english-speaking country to air those two episodes, thus I thought it was worth a news over here. And if Australia is not, then I don't think anyone took care of bringing proof to the Internet that those two episodes are already available in english.
