Just finished my conference call with Colin Morgan, it was mainly to promote the starting of Season 4 on Syfy, so much of it was already known to those that follow the BBC broadcast. He did however have a few things to say about the finale on Saturday.
Asked about the finale shaping up to be pretty epic and if there could be any heart ache ahead, he replied that there could well be a few” tears of joy” shed by the viewers at “iconic scenes”. There are some “huge, epic moments visually” he teased, alluding to when Arthur will draw Excalibur from the stone. But this joy could well be cut short as we will be left with a huge cliffhanger. “I think it is the most intriguing ending we have probably ever had, that will leave a lot of questions of where we’re gonna go in Season 5”.
For those hoping that Arthur finds out about Merlin’s magic, I’m afraid it seems that Colin hinted that might not be the case this year. “At this stage, if Merlin was to tell him had magic, he would no doubt be executed or exiled for his betrayal” he said. He went on to explain that being a servant is the best thing for Arthur to think of him, it means that he is no threat and can help secretly for now. As soon as he knows that he won’t grow to become Uther then it will be OK to tell him.
As soon as I get the transcript through I will post that too, there are some great personal reflections on the season. Such as working with Ben Daniels (Tristan) and Miranda Raison (Isolde) being a favourite moment, how his ideal (yet unrealistic) guest star would be Paul Newman and how much he would love to do a flashback episode that showed Uther banning magic.
