Up All Night - Season 1 extended to 24 episodes

Nov 22, 2011

Variety reports that NBC decided to add 2 episodes to Up All Night's first season, extending it to 24 episodes.

The show was given a back-nine order on October 4, like NBC's other new sitcom of the fall, Shitney (often misspelled 'Whitney'). This January, both shows will swap timeslots, Up All Night going to Thursdays at 9:30 after The Office and Shitney moving to Wednesdays at 8 where it will, hopefully, get savagely slaughtered by American Idol.

Up All Night certainly is a better fit to The Office, but no show would have deserved this great timeslot more than Community, fighting for its life by anchoring the night for two and a half seasons now, and going in hiatus for [insert divinity of your choice] knows how long.

As for other NBC comedies : 30 Rock season 6, beginning on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 8/7c, has a full 22-episode order, it seems like 0 breaks / several one-hour episodes are upon us, for what might be the final season of the show. So far, P&R's fourth season and The Office's eight season also have a 22-episode order, but they probably will get extended with 2-3 extra episodes (Tommy's Place better get an extension !).

And of course, there's still the possibility that Community will get a 4-episode extension, bringing season 3 to a total of 26 episodes, a season closing with a 3-part season finale featuring the Evil version of our study group finally creating a portal to our dimension to kill their alternates to "reclaim their proper lives", as Evil Abed put it at the end of episode 3.04. It would not be a paintball finale (I doubt the Dean will want to allow paintball at Greendale this year anyway), and this time the prize for the group is to stay in our dimension by fighting back to send their Evil alternates back to their dimension. Afterwards, Community would win the Emmy Awards for best comedy, best writing, best directing, best lead actor (Joel McHale) and best acting in supporting roles (Danny Pudi and Alison Brie) — all the cast members can't win an Emmy, let's be realistic. 6 Emmys will do... This would be a great tagline on the multitude of posters NBC will then gladfully pay to promote Community's fourth season. Also, there's a possibility this might not happen at all.

  2. That's great news, thanks!

Where did you learn that "Parks and Recreation" has a full 22-episode season? I hope it does get extended with the 2-3 extra episodes.

  3. Shitney is the most appropriate name for that show anyone could come up with.

  4. Cancel Shitney and give Community a 4th season!!!!!! Or possible 6 seasons and a movie! That would be cool, cool, cool, cool.
