Vulture released several ratings figures that we don't come across every day, focusing on particular demographics and other unusual factors (level of education, ethnic origin, income, etc). I summed up most of them below :

By 'watched', Vulture means live ratings + DVR recordings watched within 3 days :

Once Upon a Time (Sundays at 8 on ABC) :

- It is the #3 most watched show by women between 18 and 24.

- It is the #52 most watched show by the female population under 50.

2 Broke Girls (Mondays at 8:30 on CBS) :

- 4.4% of the women over 65 years old watch the show, it's better than Modern Family, getting only 3.7% of that elder demo. ABC's hit is even less watched by people between 65 and 122 years old than Man Up or The Middle.

Two and a Half Men (Mondays at 9 on CBS) :

- It is the #2 most watched comedy by both male and female population under 50.
- It is the #5 most watched show by kids between 12 and 17.

- It is the oldest-skewing show on ABC, 12.2% of the women over 65 watch the show.

NCIS (Tuesdays at 8 on CBS) :

  1. Wow, that is really awesome and interesting!

  2. This information is SO interesting and totally shows you just how/where viewership is going. Is it me, or does anyone else think that the stats for Terra Nova (It is FOX's second most watched show by people over 50.) is not what FOX was hoping/going for, for that show? LOL!

  3. The fact that Fringe has the biggest percentage boost when you include the DVR recordings - SHOWS FRINGE WASN'T SUPPOSE TO BE SCHEDULED ON FRIDAYS! this show has to be on a day with people who can watch this.

  4. Yes i agree, they should of left it on Thursday night at 9 right after Bones. It was perfect in that time slot, and doing a hell of allot better then it is now on Friday night.

  5. According to Vulture I'm rich. That's hysterical. Tells me a lot about the people putting these stats together.

  6. That was an interesting read...Hooray for Fringe!

  7. I don't think it is news that watching Chuck won't get you dates.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I wish I had your income then. You must be making triple my annual income.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I assume the Gossip Girl fact is actually in regards to its viewers hip not its A18-49 rating because I think that title actually goes to Nikita,

  10. ITA on all of your points, esp the Revenge one. It's kinda eye-opening to see some of these viewing habits. And the Castle comment had me on the floor too. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I also found it interesting that they pointed out that while many young girls watch Revenge, very few of them watch Parks and Rec. Well, who would you want as a role model for a child: revenge-seeking-fake-bitter Emily Thorne or sweet-patriotic-honest-hard-working-dedicated-friendly Leslie Knope? I just don't get it.

    Eye opening indeed!

  12. See,this is why we need to have dvr recordings included, these numbers say it all. They provide tangible proof that Fringe hasn't lost an audience.I will truly go crazy if Fox cancels Fringe after seeing this.

  13. Oh, I would kill for such an analysis for shows such as Kardashians whatever, Jersey Shore, Housewives of wherever and others like it.
I always wondered who the hell watches this kind of crap. I would looooove to see not only the demos on those, but also the level of education (*cough * lack thereof* cough*) and economic level of the viewers.

I assume they rate very high with zombies and other brain dead creatures, but unfortunatelly there is no available data on the living dead.

  14. I'm always surprised that Castle skews so old. It has a ton of pop culture references and stars that are popular among younger viewers. It has to be the time slot.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It kinda scares me actually. I shudder to think about it more. AND these girls are staying up till 11pm to watch that show?

Leslie Knope FTW I say! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I agree. AND it is on after DWTS which had the older audience too.

  17. I'm completely horrified that a large number of kids 12-17 watch 2.5 Men, but it's nice to know Terra Nova is doing well with at least one population.  Too bad it won't help its renewal chances.  Eeek, for Gossip Girl - maybe they won't get a final season.  I always knew smart people watch Community but the Chuck info surprises me.  All in all, it is interesting to see who watches what and when.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hasn't it always been like that for Gossip Girl? I feel like it's at the bottom of the TV show list each season basically since it began to air.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not the demo I was hoping for either.  It's one of the few new shows I started watching this season that I am still watching.  Slowly almost everything else has drifted away.  Of course, I would stick with the show that might be cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I was shocked about Castle too, but like you, the biggest shock was what constitutes rich and very rich in this list.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Agreed.  By demos, Nikita is routinely .10 behind GG.  However, in total viewers Nikita roundly beats GG each week by 400,000 - 500,000 viewers.  It's interesting to me that so many people older than demo range watch Nikita.

  22. Don't forget the enormous amount of teen boys watching 2.5 Men too.  Alan, Charlie, and Walter don't inspire me as role models either.  It's time for parents to take back control over what their children watch.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, where do they get these numbers? Who establishes that? I don't mean to sound snobbish, but 100,000 is not "very rich".

    ReplyDelete
  24. I tried and TRIED so hard to watch it but I kept laughing all the way through it. I was disappointed cause I love 'dinosaurs and stuff' but it was NOT what I thought it was going to be. To me it went off the rails after the 3rd episode.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah... but I kinda gave up on anything 2.5 Men-related. And I actually expected that a lot of kids watched it because there are so many people in general that watch it, I assumed a good percentage would be kids watching with their (bad) parents. It is a gross, misogynistic, vulgar show and not funny at all IMO.

You are right: parents should take control over what their children end up watching. It is just sad to read such news.

  26. Well, in a body-fixated world, let's not forget that Nathan Fillion does not have the abs and the muscles to grab the attention of younger female viewers while the cast of Hawaii 5-0 does.

In a world in which shirtlessness has become more and more common (and I have nothing against eyecandy, as long as it is not completely gratuitous) perhaps that could be a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Especially not if you have two incomes in your household (~50,000 a year salary each).  Mortgage and college payments eat that up quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey, why isnt Supernatural on the list?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Bunky I think you are now my favourite SpoilerTV! I love these articles. Please don't stop.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Vulture must have done some kind of door to door research, or else it would be impossible to know who in the house is watching.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Totally agree with you Laura :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey Jini how are you? I'm glad you agreed,i almost kept going on and on about it ,but i didn't want to keep shouting the same message,I figured a little at a time is a better way to go.Hope all is good :) Have a good evening! Count down time, there's 21 minute till Fringe....See ya soon!   :D

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks for posting it! Very interesting actually. I'm really surprised about Castle and Chuck. And so glad about Fringe!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Right? Fox sure knows how to kill a great show, sometimes there reasoning is beyond description.......  :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's really interesting.  (I watch Chuck..oh wait...over 34)

    ReplyDelete
  36. What I worry about is...has the network noticed?  They seem to still count so heavily on Nielson and I just don't know if Nielson (or the Networks) are counting in DVR info.  This question is especially interesting in terms of the complaints after ABC cancelled two daytime soaps.  There were accusations that ABC wasn't counting DVR numbers at all...nor were they adding in SoapNet (an internet channel created to facilitate watching day time soaps after the work day)  numbers.  I wonder if this attitude toward new technology based viewer numbers is widespread among those focusing on primetime ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well Castle is kind of the obvious one, because there are only few shows on tv that have a crazy fan base, whose fans go to all these conventions, comic cons and vote like crazy in all those online polls, like Chuck, Fringe, Supernatural and Castle is one of them, but it is also the luckiest one cuz it also has the best ratings, courtesy of Dancing with the Stars (viewers above 60), so all of those "senior citizens" give Castle a boost a fair share of viewers, so as long as they are winning their time slots they are here to stay, I wish Fringe also had a opener show like this no matter the age  range, we might not have to worry about it being cancelled every year : ).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Very interesting data and shows us that the ratings aren't just black and white (even though it seems that way!)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well, I side with Sheldon regarding Fox/Rupert Murdoch.

  40. LOL I know, when i saw Castle i read it twice thinking i read it wrong...I first i wondered if it was a mistake, but if you think about it,it makes sense, its a straight forward police drama, even though they are attracted to each, they aren't all over each other. No cursing, little sex ,everything that a younger person might want, but not necessarily needed for the older age group to keep them interested...in a nutshell,no bells or whistles needed.....

    ReplyDelete
  41. I tried too, but I quit after ep 4.... There's just nothing about me that keeps me interested.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I knoow, it's crazy what they consider rich and very rich...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey Laura :-)
    Always agree with you ;-)
I'm just fine and sooo busy. How are you ??
Now we have to wait a looong time to get the next episode...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi Jini, it is a long time before we see another new episode,if you have any episodes recorded you might want to give it a shot,i will
watching repeats of something..I'm doing pretty do,can't complain, who going to listen if i do,lol...Glad your doing  well and busy, its better then not having anything to do at least you know your brain won't rot, lol.    :D

    ReplyDelete
  45. I kinda like Terra Nova and will keep watching :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Doesn't surprise me.

Older demos have no tolerance for serialized shows. They love their procedural television, and Castle is that.

    ReplyDelete
  47. wow that is CRAZY NCIS beat out the NBC thursday lineup lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. What interesting and odd information. The Secret Circle one made me a giggle a little. Not sure why. :P
