Once Upon A Time - Season 1 - Producers after JoAnna Garcia Swisher to guest star

Nov 21, 2011

"They are after Joanna Garcia for one of the roles, which would be amazing," Morrison reveals. And while she wouldn't say which character they want for Garcia, we hear that OUAT is pursuing a storyline for Ariel from The Little Mermaid, so let's just put two and two together, shall we?

orrison also has her eye on a certain somebody. "I would love for Rose Byrne to be on the show at some point," she tells us. "I feel like she'd be an amazing, amazing fairy-tale character." We are absolutely on board with this casting choice, but who would you pick for her fairy-tale character?

Need one more thing to get excited about? A OUAT musical episode could definitely happen! "We all sing," Morrison says. "Josh Dallas, Ginny Goodwin, me. I don't know if Robert Carlyle sings. He probably does. I feel like we have a lot of musically inclined people in the cast. We'll see!"

  2. Musical episode? *Facepalm*

Nothing quite says jumped the shark like a musical episode!

  3. Yeah...because none of these characters have ever sung before right? That would be totally out of place. I mean, Ariel, a mermaid singing? Would totally give me nightmares.

  5. Jennifer's just suggesting it - It's not set in stone.

  6. wow.. Robert Carlyle singing?  that'd be interesting to see haha

  7. A town that is full of fairytale characters who have been consumed by a terrible curse that took away all their happy endings is perfectly within the realm of acceptability, but a mermaid is taking it too far? I'm confused.

  8. Oddly enough I read that. Does not change how I feel though.

  9. The thing I never liked about Disney movies was the singing. Regardless of whether the characters have sung before Once Upon a time is NOT those traditional characters.

That is the appeal of it to me. If it was the typical fairy tales and singing I would not have started watching at all.

I actually like a lot of musicals, but not from a drama series.

  10. I said the same thing. What the hell is going on with these people wanting to incorporate singing with these programs? what a horrible idea, doesn't anyone remember the last few go rounds with singing,Grey's,that cop show that lasted 10 minutes, and i wrote about one on saturday that bombed.what a stupid idea.

  11. I completely agree.

Those non-traditional fairy tales seem quite out of place to me, but if it's done well it could be fun... Most mermaid episodes I've seen  usually are not though.

The aspect of the show that's interesting is their original take on the traditional fairy tales and how they make them somewhat more real. Breaking out into song goes against that....

  12. If there is any singing, I'm almost positive they'll integrate it into the show somehow so they don't just break out into song or something silly like that.

Plus, it's not like it will be for every episode. Most tv shows that attempt to do a musical do it once throughout the entire run and that's it.

  13. And most of them fail horribly!

  14. Who even wants Ariel in this story? You know the saying to many cooks spoil the broth, well same here,1-its not a musical,2-its a drama and 3- they are bringing in to many fairytale characters. When did snow white meet Ariel anyway,in pumpkin land while charlie brown was in the great pumpkin patch?Grrrrrr don't like this at all.

  15. That's true, but judging a pretty decent TV show for the mere attempt at getting it right isn't cool. Especially since it isn't confirmed and we haven't even seen it yet.

As usual, I'm taking a wait and see approach. If it turns out to be good, and the odds are certainly against it, I can at least say I remained optimistic, but if it turns out to be horrible then meh, it's just one episode.

  16. Yeah,i like musicals to but this is a bit much,if i wanted a musical i could go the Broadway.

  17. There are exceptions like Buffy Once More With Felling. It could be okay, and I'm not saying the show will do it...

I'm just saying of the score or so Musical episodes I have seen, 1 has been great, maybe 2 have been okay. I can always enjoy a musical number that's in a delusion like Six Feet Under, or an actual performance more so You Just Got Slapped om How I met Your Mother.

Show that have music built in are a little different, but still generally fail like Eli Stone, Viva Laughlin, Cop Rock etc. I don't count Glee i nthis really since it is more performance than exposition.

It's the use of musical numbers as exposition in drams that drives me nuts.

For every Once More With Feeling that nails it, there's a Grey's, 7th Heavan, Xena , Oz, Cop Rock and oh so many more that were just bad....

  18. I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate musical episodes. I can't watch them. It's like having to watch Shitney. Yep, that bad.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You are so right! There are very rare occurrences of a good use of musical numbers, like eclipses.

I agree it works on situations like: You Just Got Slapped or Best Night Ever (HIMYM); Smelly Cat & Phoebe stuff (Friends); Jeffster  - because it is so bad it is good - (Chuck); Shout sing-dance number (Psych), etc.

But there are real atrocities that involve TV shows and musical numbers.

  20. YES! I like musicals too, but you are right, if I want to see a musical I go to a freaking musical!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes,people are reminding us its not set in stone, but its basically been  proven to be a disaster,Greys comes to mind. Why add something that is not needed. This story sings beautifully without song.
Hell if they can put Spiderman the musical on broadway, let them put try it there.

  22. While I actually liked "The Little Mermaid" as a kid, I am pretty "meh" towards the idea of bringing Ariel to the show.

My favorite characters were Sebastian and Flounder. Ariel was rather annoying: always whining, always dreaming and making stupid deals with evil people. Ursula was cool, though.

    Prince Eric was soooooooooooo boring.

I would also fear the special effects for the mermaid scenes, especially those under the water...

Rapunzel, on the other hand, would be pretty interesting to see.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wait! What? Charie Brown? Ha!

... and guest starring Michael Chiklis as Charlie Brown singing "You won't pull that football out from under me again *bang".... XD XD

    ReplyDelete
  24. Really,at least you know what your going to see,for it wouldn't be a musical drama!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I can see Joanna as Rapunzel... That would be fun!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would pay money to see that, lol, comeon Chiklis show us what your made of lol.BANG!!  HA

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hahahahahahahahahhahahahah. Go Chiklis!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Or, based on her hair colour, she could be Belle.

As long as she's not sleeping beauty, who is super boring.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Rapunzel could be very cool on the show.   I think i have something against The little Mermaid,i feel it was shoved down everyone's throat, with no let up,and  oh my lord 8 zillion baby's were born with the name Ariel,or some form of it.

  30. How big is the enchanted forrest supposed to be? Is it just a big forrest and a lake? Is it big enough to have "faraway exotic kingdoms"?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, I'm not quite sure about the geography of the fairy tale worl. Is The Enchanted Forest one forest within Fairytaleland or is it hte generic for the entire fairy tale world?

They really have not explained it well or gone into any detail about the realm. Not yet at least. Maybe more will come out as the storybrookers begin to recall details of their past lives....

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, IF they really pursue the Ariel storyline *eyeroll*:

    a) at least it would be played by JoAnna Garcia;

    b) please don't let them make her a swimming instructor in the real world (subtlety is not one of the show's strenghts as the apples and shoes have showed us);

    c) I really do hope that the FX aren't as tacky as one could expect;

    d)  don't make the prince as boring as he was in the Little Mermaid. There is just so many "meh" princes one can handle.

  33. Not sure, goggle it,Wikipedia goes into the mythology of Grimms and Snow.

  34. Have you checked out the new thread,24 in india?they say dancing and singing,oh my

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree about the different culture but if they have allot of it in this show it will never work in the states.  I wonder, do they actually intend on calling him Jack Bauer?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Cathy check out the thread 24 taking place in India? Hint dancing

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh... my... Goodness... Are these people insane?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think they are,if we dream of tinker bell, charlie brown.or ariel dancing in our dreams, then we will be as crazy if not more! :D

  39. It's a primetime soap about fairytales.  There's no shark to jump for a show like this.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'd welcome Rose Byrne on this show anytime.  I have my doubts that she'd do it though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Laura I'm so sorry to disagree with you for once! I hope that will be the last time ;-)
But I'm totally with Aydrian now, it's a fairytale and not a standard drama, I don't understand why it will be so insane to let the characters sing for one episode.
I'm so grateful for this show to be original and creative at least! I don't get the grumpy voices who criticize everything on it, with just 4 episodes aired.
It's a new show and it's just a TV show, guys!
I'm enjoying the ride for now, smiling at the clichés, connecting with my childhood again and supporting the writers any times they will take some risks... and to be honest I quite like the idea of Robert Carlyle singing! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Or may be an episode with songs - as well as non traditional fairy tales and characters- if it's done with talent would bring more humour, fantasy, magic...to these traditional stories without breaking the original concept of this show.
Once Upon A Time has just 4 episodes aired. It's a new show and I think it's great for a new show to take some risks.

  43. Thats okay Jini,i should of said half fairytale a and half drama because it takes place in both worlds. We already have snowwhite in dvd,and all the other Disney fairytales that sing and dance...I would prefer them keeping it as is,its really not for kids and not all adults want the singing and dancing.i could always pop in a dvd if i wanted....That's what great,we all have different viewpoints that we can express here!  :D
