DEXTER® TAKES A STAB AT TWO MORE SEASONS
SHOWTIME® Renews Its Hit Drama Series For 7th And 8th Seasons
LOS ANGELES, CA — (November 18, 2011) SHOWTIME has ordered two more seasons of its award-winning, top-rated drama series DEXTER, starring Golden Globe® award-winning actor Michael C. Hall, it was announced today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. On the heels of Hall and SHOWTIME closing a new, two season deal for Hall to return to the series, production will begin on season seven in 2012 in Los Angeles. Seasons seven and eight will consist of 12 episodes each.
The Emmy®-nominated DEXTER opened its sixth season in October and continues to earn impressive ratings, most recently delivering its fifth consecutive week of growth. Season-to-date, the series is averaging 5.12 million weekly viewers on all platforms (including On Demand, replays and DVR), making it the highest rated season yet. Season six of DEXTER is executive produced by John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Scott Buck, Manny Coto and Michael C. Hall.
"DEXTER's enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” said Nevins. “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape. Together with Michael, the creative team on the show has a very clear sense of where they intend to take the show over the next two seasons and, as a huge fan, I’m excited to watch the story of Dexter Morgan play out.”
Michael C. Hall added, “On behalf of the entire DEXTER family, we relish the invitation to delve ever deeper into Dexter's world."
One of the most acclaimed shows on television, DEXTER stars Hall, who has earned multiple Emmy nominations as well as a SAG award for his role as a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer. The show has received multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for best television drama series, as well as a prestigious Peabody Award in 2008, and was twice named one of AFI’s Top Ten television series. The series also stars Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas, and James Remar.
Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap! This is awesome!
ReplyDeletesometimes they just don't know when to stop
ReplyDeleteExpected that anyway. But i also think that the show should absolutly end after those 2 additional seasons. It already isn't as good as it used to be and Showtime shouldn't drag the ending out any longer.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. And stop hating already! It's nowhere near ready to end as far as I'm concerned, I think this season is much better than last year with the ending episodes (which are always great) yet to come
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteyesss! dexter is amazing this year!
ReplyDeleteJeez, they don't know when to stop. I hope Showtime lets Homeland end with more dignity.
ReplyDeleteDamn. As long as it doesn't follow the trend of Weeds and get really boring. Some people (not me) already dislike the last 2 seasons.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely on the ugh side of this announcement. Showtime is really bad about beating dead horses. I haven't checked out the current season, but Season 5 was, IMHO, the worst season by far (Season 3 wasn't great either) and my favourite critics have been panning this season too. Maybe Dexter could have one more brilliant season (and believe me, if the show improves or reaches S1 or S2 highs, I would be more than happy with extra seasons), but for now, they don't really seem earned (storywise, not ratingswise).
ReplyDeletemediocrity? dexter is definitly an aweseome show and he is playing that part better than anybody else ever could...
ReplyDeleteCan't really say I'm too happy with this, even though it's really not unexpected.
ReplyDeleteShowtime should learn from HBO about how handle a great show when you have one.
Dexter USED to be excellent. S1, S2, and to an extent S4 proved that it could be. I'm not saying Michael C. Hall is bad in the role. Of course not. I'm saying that the writers seem to be losing their way and he is wasted in a role that should probably have ended a while back. Anyway, I'm not trying to argue FOR it's cancellation. I'm trying to argue for an improvement in quality.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how this will fit with M Hall filming "To Appomattox " next year?
ReplyDeleteYESSSS! I'm feeling euphoric!
ReplyDeleteDeb = Lois Lane, let her find out already, I wish they would have followed the book more closely in that respect and I also don't think she would care because he's killing other killers, maybe they could even hunt together. Just my 2 cents.
ReplyDeleteTerrible news. A good show needs a good ending. And here Showite will be producing Dexter until it really, really sucks.
ReplyDeleteI'd say that Season 6 is up to par with Season 2 and 4 in terms of quality.
ReplyDeleteIf you watch the new season you would see that there is a huge improvement in quality. This is the best season (in my opinion) of Dexter.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fantastic analogy. Unfortunately, I think that the showrunners know this to be true, but have no idea how to execute it correctly.
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm happy about the news although I'll admit that I haven't been blown away by this season (I'm just not into Dexter exploring religion personally). I think that as long as Michael C. Hall and the rest of the cast is interested in continuing the roles they should. It obviously makes them happy and in my opinion Dexter actually gives them a lot of room to flex their acting muscles.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, I'm not super impressed with this season, but that doesn't mean that it won't get better or that the writers won't come up with new material that will blow the past seasons out of the water. Don't count the show out until it's all said and done.
twss
ReplyDeleteI think some of these newer viewers who are tuning in are seeing something original and cleverly done. Unfortunately we were spoiled with Brian, Lila and Trinity (I'm not a fan of S3) and therefore any 'big bad' is going to find it hard to compete with those kinds of performances imo. I loved the idea of exploring religion for example, but I'm finding Hanks so wet and wimpy and Mos Def seriously under used, that much of this season is below par for me :(
ReplyDeleteI am always hoping, it seems like the writers personally tease me with that line Dexter says about how if he could change for anyone, he would want to change for Deb and be a better brother to her. But what if he didn't have to change. What if he could have what he had with Lumen, with Deb (minus the sex of course). Their first victim together could be Quinn, he's served his purpose, I'm so over him.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this season is amazing so far. I dont know what people think...dexter is amazing this season!
ReplyDeleteme too! love season 6 so much! its great!
ReplyDeleteI think the major problem is that they've written themselves into a corner with Deb. She's TOO clever. She is supposed to be this strong/capable woman detective, which is lovely, but she isn't supposed to be as clever as Dexter. With her being shown to be so hyper-competent and, more importantly, so staunchly moral, she should be able to figure him out fairly easily/there's no way that she would ever accept Dexter as a killer, let alone help him out.
ReplyDeleteLast season (the worst by far IMHO), they tried to write Den an arc that clearly allowed her to become more sympathetic towards murderers who murder for a cause. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like evolution so much as it seems like her slipping backwards. No idea what's happening this season, but I would imagine that she won't find out until his secret it's way too late and until they reconfigure this character they've worked so hard to build into something unrecognizable.
I think two seasons is more than enough time to wrap it up.
ReplyDeleteYeah, there's absolutely no dignity in a show that is currently enjoying its highest ratings ever.
ReplyDeletegood news, but hope we finally get to see someone from miami pd find out his secret
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteNo effing way this season is up to par with season 4. Or any of them beyond 5 for that matter. 4 > 1 > 2/3 > 6 > 5
ReplyDeleteI don't know for me it'd be like this: 1/4 > 2/6 > 3 > 5. I really did not like Miguel at all in Season 3 and Lumen wasn't on my favorite list either so both of them dragged Seasons 3 and 5 down for me.
ReplyDeletereally good to hear... I was sad when I read that negotiations with Michael Hall are not panning out... The show is really awesome...
