24 - Alex Gansa talks India Remake

Nov 21, 2011

THR: I can imagine… What are your thoughts about this 24 production in India?

Gansa: You know, Howard [Gordon], who created the show with me, he knows a lot more about that than I do. I know that Anil [Kapoor], who played the Iranian president in the last season of 24. He, after being on the set of 24, really decided that he wanted to play Jack Bauer in India.

So I understand that it’s up and running, that they’re going ahead. I think it’s great. I think it’s very cool. I’m actually dying to see how they do it because that part of the world, of course, is so interesting with the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. And it’s going to be fascinating to see how a half-Hindu, half-Muslim country deals with these issues of terrorism on the ground. I think it’s going to be fascinating. You know? Whether there’ll be singing or dancing is another issue. I don’t know. It’s going to be fun, though.

  1. More singing and dancing,i just went thru that in Once Upon A Time, anyway a 24 taking place in India? could possibly work, then again it could bomb.(no pun intended). Really not sure my head is swimming with snow white and charlie brown.DarqueMode, and Cathy will understand what i'm talking about.

  2. Interesting article!

It really struck home with me why I tend to loathe network TV dramas. It dumbfounds me that they would not let there be disputes between the cops ! I already knew that networks demand you spell out who the good guys and bad guys are... They may as well put flashing arrows or subtitles like Burn Notice does tongue in cheek.

I never really thought about it before, but there is VERY little distention in cop dramas. ... That is very sad and completely unrealistic.

Yet another reason to watch UK crime dramas instead!  Better stories, more realistic, more surprises and mysteries, more subtlety and now more dissent and realism. All around better dramas than 90% of the US bloat.

It's no wonder the cable dramas win the more big awards every year when networks censor and edit the creative vision of the creative teams!

  4. Right,i thought i didn't read the synopsis correctly so i read it.Well one i 'm not sure it would work in the states, and two i don't think it will work in the states. HA  But if they call him Jack Bauer,i'll never watch it. Indian singing and dancing in a 24 drama,i don't think so.

  5. Kapoor didn't play the Iranian president.  It was the ficticious nation of Kamistan.

That's so cool that it's rubbed off and he's the star of another version.  Good for him.

  6. It would be very interesting to see their take on 24. Good luck to them.

  7. I doubt they will have singing and dancing in something like this, that usually happens in movies not on television programs here. I am frm India and i am really dreading this remake, mostly because our Cop dramas are actually cop soaps.

  8. India is not a half-hindu and half-muslim country.

  9. I can smell sarcasm there. But, seriously, I have a very bad feeling about the remake...
