"Consider me jealous." —Rebekah
I hate to say I told you so, but… well, man, did I tell you so!
In my review of episode two of this season, I stated that "Perhaps hybrids need to feed on the doppelganger to complete their transition, which is Elena." And boy, was I right! (Okay, there were probably countless people that guessed up this same theory as I did, but let me have this one, please?) Forget how Klaus actually figured it out[*], and forget the fact that we're only five episodes into the season and all the secrets are no more, and never mind that there's already a bigger bad to be scared of! There's no time to think of those things because it's senior prank night (no, seriously showrunners, just put the characters in college already; we won't even care to notice or comment on it, we'll just accept it) and Vampire Diaries is in full throttle. It's compelled almost, and once it feeds… it's not going to be able to stop.
[*]Someone, please explain to me how Klaus did "the opposite of what the witch told" him? Because he very much did not do that. In fact, he told Stefan to kill Elena… twice. And how did he get Stefan not to drain her the second time? I've never had this much of a problem with Vampire Diaries continuity, because it almost never happens. Then again, I was in a noisy environment, so perhaps I missed something.
I thought last week's episode was good, but I'm always a sucker for bottle-type episodes, which are ones that happen in the same setting and (usually) in the same amount of time as we're watching the episode. We watched the episode for an hour and the time on the show was an hour long. It definitely raises the stakes and everything feels so much more intense. I concede, I fell victim to the bottle episode ambiance, especially when the timer counted down and Elena was left with nothing but a compelled vampire ready to drain her dry. Obviously, Elena is not going to die. But I couldn't help the voice within me from screaming, "Wait! No! WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN!??!?" …

My favorite part of the episode was the opening scene of all of them doing Senior Prank night! Caroline is just so awesome...
ReplyDeleteStefan was never told to kill Elena. He was told to feed on her. Klaus probably yanked Stefan off of Elena after 2 seconds. There's no story there about how Elena miraculously survived.
ReplyDeleteGreat review.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I was a little confused by the whole Klaus figuring out that Elena's blood was the key as well...Maybe they cut off scenes that shouldn't have been cut off???
