Supernatural - Episode 7.02 - Hello, Cruel World - Recap

Welcome back, everyone! Another week passed, and a new Supernatural aired. You know, except for seasons 4 and 5, I think #2 episodes are kinda "meh", but this one, like the premiere it follows, was fantastic. One thing that made the S4 and S5 eps great is that they, like the premieres, also featured a cool song in the recap. But unfortunately, they stopped doing that. Oh well, can't have everything. So let's greet this new, cruel world.

The recap begins with *gasp* Sheriff Mills! I knew she was coming back, but I didn't remember it was this early. I know some people say that stuff like this in the recaps kinda ruin surprises for the spoiler-avoiders, but I think they just wanna remind those with short-term memory who the character is.

So what else do we have? Wall in Sam's head, it cracked, he started seeing Lucifer (who tells him he's still in the cage), Sam cuts his hand, Cas swallowed the Leviathans, who took over him just before Dean and Bobby can escape.

The Battle Is Over. The War Has Just Begun

I had two theories last week about how they'll get out of this – Either Cas will regain control and save them somehow, or he'll just explode and release the Leviathans. And I was pretty wrong. Well, he did explode, but a bit later. Before he could hurt Dean or Bobby, he started melting, and left the room with a Schwarzenegger-y "We'll be back".

Meanwhile, Sam is being chocked by Lucifer! Or thinks he is. That's probably why he couldn't call back to Dean in the premiere's end. BTW, little side-note, I'm very happy that Mark Pellegrino is back to his awesome hair. That emo version last week looked weird. It's also weird how it suddenly changed, but hey, it's Sam's imagination and it's better, so no complaints from me.

Anyway, Lucifer is still trying to convince Sam he's still in the cage, and I'm still not buying it. But it looks like Sam is starting to. Dean snaps him out of it, and they follow Casiathan outside. He just walks into the water like some mental ward escapee, creates a little whirlpool, and POOF…The Leviathans are spread in the public water supply. Uh oh. And all that's left of our beloved Cas is his trademark.

(About the title card – Guess our new baddies do bleed ectoplasm. Or ooze. Whatever it is. Anyway, that's what it is.)

The Water Taste Kinda Funny

The gang grieves Cas, and then a montage starts showing various uses of water in our everyday life. (Oooh, girls in bikini. I'm liking this one already ;P) The Leviathans are beginning to possess people – First, a little girl (Eew! I'm not going near a water cooler for a couple of days) and a guy in a garage.

"Wake up, sunshine. Up and at'em, Atom man!"

I'm gonna be quoting Lucifer a lot 'cause his comments in the episode are simply hilarious.

Dean treats Sam's hand, and Sam tells him he's not alright (Which Dean already knew) and he's having hallucinations, specifically of his 'bunk buddie'. Dean tries to tell Sam that what he's seeing isn't real, but since Lucifer is saying the same, Sam doesn't know what to believe.

The Things On TV Today...

At another place, LeviaGirl is watching some interesting stuff on TV – A "surprise eclipse", a commercial for Biggerson's Pie Bar (A callback to Bad Day At Black Rock), and a promo for everyone's favorite show, Dr. Sexy M.D. Sounds like a good episode.

Back at Bobby's, Sam is creepily playing with his gun while Dead and Bobby watch in concern. Dean decides to turn on Sam's phone GPS in case he decides to "fly the cuckoos' nest." Good thinking. Bobby asks Dean how he's doing, and Dean says he's fine. Hmmmm, where have we heard that before? Bobby can tell Dean's full of it, and tells him his there for him when he needs it.

"You wanna do couples yoga or you wanna get back to hunting big bads?"

-"Shut up…Idjit."

Yay! I missed Bobby's "Idjit"s. When was the last time he said it, anyway? Now If they can only bring back "balls!" too…

Who Shot The Sheriff?

Meanwhile in a high school, a bunch of swim team guys are talking when their friends trap them in the locker room, and eat them. Yeah, of course it's natural. Their…Cannibals. Or not.

In Sioux Falls Hospital, we see…Welcome back, Kim Rhodes! We haven't seen her for almost an entire season. Apparently, Sheriff Mills had her appendix removed, and Dr. Gaines tells her to take it easy. And then…Well, that's it. She'll tie into the story later, I guess.

The swim team massacre makes the news, and Sam tells Dean to follow it, since it might be Leviathan-related. Dean refuses at first, wanting to stay with his marble-spilling brother, but Bobby says he can also look after Sam.

"What am I, chopped brains on toast? I can eyeball the kid, go."

-"…Fine."

Awww, nobody wants Dean around.

Dr. Creepy M.D

At a playground, a grown man is approaching behind a little girl on a swing. If they weren't both Leviathans, this would've been kinda creepy. Apparently they don't choose who to possess. Those who drink them first are the "lucky ones". One of them possessed a little girl called Annie. The man is Edgar, who works in a demolitions crew.

"Watching things blow up is apparently very satisfying." It is, Edgar. It really is.

Annie (Who apparently knows the disgusting way of how babies come to the world) says they're all hungry. Edgar also heard about the little swim team incident, and tells Annie to get the others in line, 'cause the "boss" doesn't like it. Annie says she has an idea. Monster ideas can never be a good thing for humans…

She goes to the hospital and sees Doctor Gaines. She stars the 'innocent little girl' act, but then breaks his hand and transforms into him in a matter of seconds. They grow up so fast. LeviaDoc sedates (Or kills) the patient next to Sheriff Mills and starts rolling her away.

The Devil Loves His Tabloids

Meanwhile, Dean goes to the locker room and sees some ooze on the wall. So he calls Sam…

This just cracks me up, and he hasn't even said anything yet. Like I said, I'm really loving Mark Pellegrino this season. This is what Lucifer is all about, being this consistent pain in the ass, driving Sam crazy. This is the good stuff.

"I really think Prince William has found the right girl."

I Always Thought Doctors Were Evil

Back in the hospital, Jodi is following LeviaDoc, and sees him cutting open the old lady and eating her liver. Yumm. She tries to go back, but faints. When she wakes up, she sees LeviaDoc and another nurse, who injects her with…Morphine, I guess. She tries to run away again, but the medicine kicks in.

At Bobby's, Lucifer is sticking to his "nothing is real" story. He says he enjoys watching Sam go crazy, and will only stop when he can't take it anymore. And in attempt to make his point, he appears behind Bobby while he talks to Sam and impales him in the chest. See, Sam? It's not real. Bobby's still alive. Shortly after, Bobby get a call from Sheriff Mills.

"My surgeon is a monster."

I bet Bobby's thinking like "If I had a nickel…". Jodi asks Bobby to come help her. She figures he knows this kind of stuff, since they killed zombies together once. Ahhhh, good times. Bobby leaves to the rescue, and Sam sighs. Yes, Sam, watching the phones is kinda boring.

Hospital? More Like Buffet

Meanwhile, the Swimiathans and Edgar take a tour of the hospital with LeviaDoc, Who gives them a little hospital 101. The swimming duo takes the form of two high-ranked hospital employees. Apparently, their plan is to be in a place with easily-accessed bodies, AKA food. Can't say these guys are stupid.

At Bobby's, Dean comes back and tells Sam he needs his help. Wait, didn't Dean say earlier that Sam cannot go on a case? Must be something serious.

"Don't let Satan change my presets." I agree. Hate when Satan does that.

At the Hospital, Bobby escorts Jodi into a cab, and out of the episode. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing her back, but her role didn't really require her character, could've been anyone. Unless we haven't seen the last of her. Hmmm. Bobby goes to see the other woman's body, and finds out she died from…Foot surgery? Really? I guess LeviaDoc didn't study humans that good anyway.

Sam and Dean are driving in the car, and Dean stars being a douche and tells Sam he needs help and that he'll never be fine. Ouch. Meanwhile, Dean comes back to Bobby's…Wait, what? But I thought Dean was…They're…But this means…*gasp* DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNN!

(BTW, In case you don't know, Morning Star is the meaning of Lucifer. And a five-pointed star is also a Satan thing. I love this show's attention to details.)

There Can Only Be One

Sam and Dean enter the warehouse…No, not Sam and Dean, Dean is actually Lucifer! The Devil continues to mock Sam, saying that he's in full control of his world, and tells him the only way to end his madness is suicide. Come on, Sam, do it. Cas will just bring you ba….Oh, right. Crap.

Bobby's digging in the body, when LeviaDoc finds him. He tells him he remembers seeing him "through the angel's eyes". Bobby quickly does the math, and blasts the sucker with his trusty shotgun. LeviaDoc decides to try and scare Bobby with his true form, which is…Pretty scary indeed. But Bobby still shoots him, only for LeviaDoc to push the bullets out like nothing. Bobby then does the smart thing, and runs for his life.

Dean follows Sam's GPS and arrives at the warehouse. He tries to calm Sam down, but Sam says he thought Dean was with him. Lucifer is pissing him off from the side, so naturally he shoots him, which freaks Dean out. He tries to convince him he's real, but Sam doesn't know what to believe. And that's when the hand injury comes in.

I wondered last week why the hand thing was significant. I thought it was an accident Jared had on set. But no, it has a role. Apparently, when Sam feels real pain, he snaps out of hallucination-land. So he squeezes his wound until Lucifer vanishes.

Out Of The Frying Pan...

Just then, Bobby calls while fleeing from the hospital, and tells the boys their immune to silver. He says they should meet back at his place and regroup. Silly Bobby, don't you think LeviaDoc is probably following you or something? Well, you should have. Anyway, then Sam tells Dean something kinda weird.

"Bobby's got a live one."

Ummmm….OK. Of course it's alive. Did you expect to find a Leviathan just lying there, dead? I dunno, that sentence doesn't really make sense…

Anyway, The boys are driving back to Bobby's, and talk about how Sam should start coming back to reality in "baby steps". Just then, they see A HOUSE ON FIRE!

Wait, why does it that important? Oh, it's Bobby's house! I don't think it was ever shot from this angle, so it took me a while to figure it out. The boys search the place, but no sign of Bobby. They split up, and Dean calls Bobby.

"This is Bobby Singer's direct hotline, you should NOT have this number." Gee, friendly much, Bobby?

Dean decides to leave a message anyway and tells Bobby he isn't fine. He say he can't lose Bobby, or else he'll drive off a pier with Sam in the car. That's kind of extreme, isn't it? I get it, Dean's under pressure, but if Bobby'll die, he's just gonna kill himself, really?

Scrap Yard Brawl

Sam searches for Bobby and runs into Edgar! He can barely say two sentences when Dean blasts his head with a shotgun. But Edgar just turns into his creepy Leviathan-form and his fine. He smashes Dean into a car, (So strongly It breaks his leg) and Sam decides to try the old fashioned way and just punches a freakin' Leviathan in the face. Yeah, that'll work…

Sam notices a car conveniently hanging above Edgar's head, and tells Dean to crush the sucker. Dean does, and Edgar goes SPLAT but not before he smacks Sam in the head with a metal pipe thing. Damn, Bobby's yard is no playground. So eventually, we got a crushed Leviathan, a knocked-out Sam, and a broken-leg Dean. With no other option, Dean calls an ambulance.

The guys are in the ambulance when Sam sees an old friend. Yup, that pipe swing to his melon brought Lucifer back into his life, and he's not going anywhere. The medic tells Dean they're going to Sioux Falls hospital. That's good, right? It's a hospital…Wait a minute! That's where LeviaDoc and his minions are at! NOOOOO! Oh, and also, Edgar is alive. Didn't think they'll kill one that quickly, did you? It takes more than a falling car to kill the first beasts.

THE END

Rating – 9/10 Biggerson Pies. My only complaint is that if we're not gonna see Misha for a while, there was too little of him in this episode…

Pin-points

- Like I said, Cas's goodbye was over way too soon. At least the coat is left. Will he come back? Will God revive him again? Doubt it, since Cas became a megalomaniac douche and declared himself God.

- Again, Mark Pellegrino was awesome. His comments were great and his hair was way better. Don't change it!

- Weirdly, Dean looked surprised all over again when Sam told him he was hallucinating, even though Death told him so last week, and he even talked about it with Sam. He also seemed surprised the hallucinations were of Lucifer. But come on, Death put a wall so Sam won't remember HELL, and now that the wall cracked, it's pretty safe to assume what Sam might be seeing, Dean.

- Like I said, Sheriff Mills's role didn't seem very pivotal. The only explanation to why they would bring her back is that she will return. Episode 7 or 8 has 'wedding' in the title…Just throwing it out there.

- I'm interested in the Leviathan's chain of command. According to the playground scene, there's some kind of boss. From the ones shown in the ep, it seems Annie (Now LeviaDoc) is in charge, from the way Edgar talked to her about getting the others in line. It seems that the Swimiathans are gonna turn into LeviaNurse and LeviAdministrator.

- And what do they mean by "checking in"? Like, turning into people at different places? Is that their tactic, to be camouflaged in different facilities? They got the hospital for food…But what's next?

- Another thing I noticed – LeviaDoc knew Bobby's last name, even though he didn't hear it while possessing Cas. So did he hear it while he was inside Cas? Did possessing Cas give him all of Cas's memories and knowledge? Does it work with everyone they possess? Damn it, those things are mysterious. I need to know more!

- Pain makes Lucifer go away? So if Sam sees him again, he should punch himself or something? I didn't really get how that works…

- Where's Bobby? Is he dead? Highly unlikely. Did the Leviathans kidnap him? Possibly. Did he even make it to his house? Hmmm. Again, an episode ends with one of the trio disappearing. Guess we'll find out next week.
