-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox aired game five of The World Series, but ABC still dominated care of Dancing With the Stars. Comparably, ABC bested second-place Fox by 2.5 rating points. Ranking third overall was CBS, followed by lowly NBC and, of course, The CW. To the masses wondering if Two and a Half Men on CBS would hold up without Charlie Sheen, the answer clearly is yes.

Dancing With the Stars averaged a 12.7 rating/19 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., building by half-hour in rating as follows:

Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m.: 11.9/18 (#1)
8:30 p.m.: 12.7/19 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 12.9/19 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 13.2/19 (#1)

Although Chaz Bono should be leaving at this point, wooden Hope Solo is my pick tonight because of Maxsim Chmerkovskiy’s surprising (but honest) outburst. For more on this, listen to today’s podcast at http://www.tvmediainsights.com/topics/podcast.

Dancing With the Stars led into Castle, which finished second behind The World Series with an 8.2/13 in the overnights at 10 p.m. Comparably, retention for Castle out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars was a modest 62 percent.

On Fox, the Texas 4 to 2 defeat over St. Louis on Game 5 of The World Series averaged an estimated 9.5 rating/15 share for the primetime portion from 8-11 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows:

The World Series, Game 5
8:00 p.m.: 7.1/12 (#2)
8:30 p.m.: 8.7/14 (#2)
9:00 p.m.: 8.9/13 (#3)
9:30 p.m.: 10.0/15 (#2)
10:00 p.m.: 10.9/17 (#1)
10:30 p.m.: 11.5/18 (#1)

Comparably, this was an estimated four percent below the fifth (and final) Game 5 year-ago match-up between San Francisco and Texas (9.9/15 on Monday 11/01/10). As a reminder, results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

Over at CBS, Two and a Half Men has, no doubt, leveled off with a 10.1/15 in the overnights (#2) at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was equal to one week earlier, with growth over the year-ago evening (8.9/13 on 10/25/10) of 13 percent. With stronger lead-in support, sophomore Mike & Molly at 9:30 p.m. (#3: 8.2/12) built by 17 percent year-to-year. Hawaii Five-O at 10 p.m., meanwhile, finished third in the overnights, with a 7.3/12 at 10 p.m., which was on par from one year earlier.

Earlier in the evening on CBS was the successful combination of How I Met Your Mother (#3: 6.5/10 at 8 p.m.), which increased by seven percent from the year-ago evening (6.1/ 9 on 10/25/10) and bona fide freshman hit 2 Broke Girls (#3: 7.6/11 at 8:30 p.m.). Compared to former time period occupant Rules of Engagement (5.4/ 8 on 10/25/10), 2 Broke Girls rose by a significant 41 percent.

Elsewhere, there was little audience left for NBC and The CW. NBC populated the evening with another two-hours of The Sing-Off (#4: 2.7/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.), which declined by half-hour, and an encore telecast of Prime Suspect (#4: 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m.), which will be replaced next Monday by the debut of newsmagazine Rock Center With Brian Williams. Here is the half-hour breakdown for The Sing-Off:

The Sing-Off (NBC)
8:00 p.m.: 3.0/ 5 (#4)
8:30 p.m.: 2.8/ 4 (#4)
9:00 p.m.: 2.7/ 4 (#4)
9:30 p.m.: 2.4/ 4 (#4)

As a reminder, the revival of Fear Factor steps into the Monday 8-10 p.m. block on NBC effective on Monday, December 12.

The CW capped off the evening with Gossip Girl (#5: 1.3/ 2 at 8 p.m.), which dipped by 28 percent from year-ago occupant 90210 (1.8/ 3 on 10/25/10) and episode five of Hart of Dixie (#5: 1.7/ 3 at 9 p.m.). Hart of Dixie deserves a positive shout-out for building by 42 percent from the 8:30 p.m. portion of Gossip Girl (1.2/ 2). One year earlier, former Monday 9 p.m. occupant Gossip Girl averaged a 1.6/ 2 on 10/25/10.
