-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the Tuesday overnights with its combination of NCIS (#1: 11.9 rating/18 share – top-rated show of the evening), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 9.6/15) and episode five of crime solver Unforgettable (#1: 7.9/13), which dipped year-to-year by seven percent from former 10 p.m. time period occupant The Good Wife (8.5/14 on 10/20/10). While The Good Wife on Sunday is a valid option against Sunday Night Football on NBC and ABC’s deteriorating Desperate Housewives, the older skew was a better fit on Tuesday than Sunday. Comparably, retention for Unforgettable out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of NCIS: Los Angeles (9.5/14) this week was acceptable at 83 percent.

In series-premiere news, sitcom Man Up on ABC got off to modest start with a third-place 5.2/ 8 in the overnights at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, that dipped by 24 percent from week two of lead-in Last Man Standing (#2: 6.8/11 at 8 p.m.). One year earlier, the second half of failed drama No Ordinary Family rated slightly higher at a 5.4/ 8 on 10/20/10. Last Man Standing, meanwhile, built by 31 percent from the first half of the year-ago installment of No Ordinary Family (5.2/ 8).

In the 9 p.m. hour on ABC was the live Dancing With the Stars Results Show (so long, Carson Kressley) at a dominant 10.5/15, which was down just eight percent from one year earlier (10.9/16 on 10/19/10). To the naysayers who think Dancing With the Stars is spiraling downward, not so. At 10 p.m., ABC’s Body of Proof slid to second with a 6.6/11 in the overnights and retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing with the Stars (10.3/15) of just 64 percent.

Over at Fox, two-hours of The X Factor finished third overall for the evening in the overnights, with a 7.0/11 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that increased by a hefty 119 percent from the year-ago combination of encore telecasts of Glee and Raising Hope and failed Running Wilde. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

The X Factor (Fox)
8:00 p.m.: 6.6/10 (#3)
8:30 p.m.: 7.2/11 (#2)
9:00 p.m.: 7.2/11 (#3)
9:30 p.m.: 6.8/10 (#3)

Comparably, Fox should have no trouble winning this fifth Tuesday of the season among adults 18-49.

NBC has sprung a Tuesday leak, unfortunately, with two-hours of perennial The Biggest Loser at a diluted 3.6/ 5 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, this was down by 27 percent from the 4.9/ 7 one year earlier. Once a solid player among adults 18-49, last Tuesday’s installment The Biggest Loser scored only a 2.1 rating/5 share in the demo, based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings.

At 10 p.m., NBC’s Parenthood maintained the now limited lead-in support from The Biggest Loser with a third-place 3.7/ 6 in the overnights. As limited as that sounds, Parenthood does tend to resonate among adults 18-49.

The CW capped off the evening with its limited combination of 90210 (#5: 1.2/ 2), which dipped by 20 percent from year-ago occupant One Tree Hill (1.5/ 2 on 10/20/10), and Ringer (#5: 1.5/ 2). While a 1.5 in the overnights is nothing to boast about, Ringer did increase by 36 percent from both the 8:30 p.m. portion of 90210 (1.1/ 2) and failed year-ago occupant Life Unexpected (1.1/ 2 on 10/20/10).
